Still by the water edgeâs railings, Kazim swung a little, gently rocking forwards and backwards on the chain. Pursing hus lips in thought, hus eyes were up in reflection. They were considering her offer. On one hand, perhaps a minty sensation was better than the relaxation of nicotine. Then again, that didnât lessen hus urge. Ya allahi, hu needed to make hus mind up. Kazim realised the girl was being much more helpful than hu anticipated. Nevertheless, hu still gently smirked and nodded hus head briefly in appreciation.Â
âI only ask because smoking is a lot more meaningful when not done alone,â hu said. âSometimes, the most reflective conversations come out of them.â Standing up from the railing, letting its loose chains rattle in reverterbration of hus release, Kazim added. âThen, when you start chewing gum with another, youâre too busy chewing to talk meaningfully. Sure, itâs a whole lot cleaner. You donât get cancer from gum, right? Not proven, at least.âÂ
Laying hus hand out near the small box, Kazim explained hus acceptance. âBut this could be a temporary fix, for now.â Kaz used hus other hand to put hus own box of cigarettes back into hus dreary jacket pocket. âMy intention was more sharing than asking,â hu tried to clarify. âApologies, I have smoked with strangers before.â
Clara wasnât afraid of heights and she was usually the careless type of person, when she was in her comfortable zone. That was one of those cases. However instead of being close to the railings, she had been a step away from it, with her eyes on the view. As she waited for hum to answer her, noticing that hu was actually reflecting about her offer, the Korean young woman realized that her offer might not be what hu was looking for, because for smokers, even casual ones, nothing could be compared to a cigarette.
Hus answer actually made her smile as her lips curved into a knowing smile and she nodded her head. âYou donât get cancer from gum and my father usually has more reflective conversations when he is smoking, so your point is fair.â Clara had to agree with hum, still nodding her head. The word âfatherâ didnât sound unfamiliar to her anymore. It was part of the role she was playing as an undercover agent, even if her âfatherâ was actually her âstep-fatherâ. Not that this mattered to the stranger with her now.
Seeing that hu was accepting her offer, the young woman placed the tiny box on the palm of hus hand. She smiled lightly, because she had also smoked with strangers before. The taste was terrible and she had run to wash her mouth at least ten times when she got home, but it was part of the job when it was a necessity. âI tend to ramble a lot, so you warned.â It was mostly because she honestly enjoyed talking. âIâve never smoked with strangers.â The lie fell easily from her mouth. âBut I had already chewed gum with strangers. Maybe you will be surprised with it, this time.â Clara tried to joke with a smile, also extending her hand for hum to give her one too.
