I got hit with an unexpected, huge financial bill that drained my account & so I'll be running a 20% off sale on my shop & comms until the end of the weekend w code '20OFFJUNE' for both to keep me out of the negatives.

i will not be using backerkit or kickstarter (similar set ups) for things like this until something is in place to protect creators posting projects to their sites. i've had to pay out of pocket thousands because on these sites its unfortunately easy for people to scam artists with fake backings.

if i would have received close to what it says i did on the campaign, this wouldnt be an issue. but truthfully i have lost out on a few thousands from fake backers and people not updating their card info at the end. its really disgraceful, im sorry, that these sites dont protect the creators on them.

this is what happened. i have to now pay $1.5k out of pocket to ship the fruit friends bc i received $5k for the project and not anywhere close to the $8k it says i received. i know how excited ppl were for the plushies so ive paid out of pocket for a lot of backerkits failure to protect artists.

backerkit is generally better than kickstarter. but this was a huge wakeup call that the failure to protect artists who make projects on these sites is staggering and glaring. something really needs to be done. if i wouldve received the $8k it says i did, this wouldnt be happening.

now my savings is drained once again bc of this huge HUGE mishap and i am due to be $200+ in the negatives by tomorrow.

plushie releases will never EVER be happening on these sites EVER again. only thru my shop from now on, until something is in place to keep these kinds of things from happening.

i made the goal high on the campaign for ample wiggle room in this situation and still got burned royally by fraudulent backers that nobody except me is now taking the fall for. a singular, low income disabled individual person. im sorry but its extremely messed up.

i was reluctant to share this but tbh i think its important considering maybe people may want to use backerkit or kickstarter in the future and dont realize these situations can occur.

and to be clear: $5k was not enough to cover everything: the plushie bulk, smaller items, AND shipping everything to me. $7k wouldve been doable. but losing $3k on this project bc backerkit doesn't protect their artists and creators has destroyed my bank account.
