letâs be real for a second. people bringing up the âoppression olympicsâ in reference to us mean Gaytkeepers literally makes no sense. all weâre doing is stating that ace and aro people do not face systematic oppression for being ace or aro. discrimination? sure! they definitely do. but what they face is nowhere near systematic or anywhere near the same level as homophobia or transphobia.Â
my problem is that when people claim that aces and aros do face systemic oppression itâs always, âsee! we face this! that makes us LGBTâ which likeâŚtake a step back and letâs think about that. women face systematic oppression, people of color face systematic oppression, mentally ill people face systematic oppression, but it doesnât make them automatically LGBT because they do so. you see what im getting at?
Woman is a gender not an orientation. Mental illness is a statement on ability, not orientation. Poc is a statement of race, not orientation. Ace is... an orientation, just like lesbian/gay/bi/pan. So you can't really use examples of women/poc/mentally ill folks not being lgbtq because those characteristics aren't directly relevant in the same way aceness and aroness is.
