24.May 2015, Part II - Alabama Hills

After driving from Bridgeport to Lone Pine and hiking the first section of the Mt. Whitney trail, it was obviously time for another hike, this time in the Alabama Hills. Neither of us knew exactly what to expect (Alabama is not really known in real life for its hills, amirite?)... but we were pretty blown away. While the rocks themselves were beautiful, the contrast between the alien hills and the Sierra was staggering.

24.May 2015, Part I - Bridgeport > Lone Pine and Mount Whitney

After making it to Bridgeport and exploring Bodie, we were ready to see what exactly the Alabama Hills looked like and maybe take some kind of hike. Have I mentioned that we did not do an extensive amount of advance planning for this trip?

In any case, blasted down 395 from Bridgeport, past Mono Lake and Mammoth, then popped out along the southern edge of the Eastern Sierra and drove through Bishop before arriving at our hotel in Lone Pine. Checked in, dropped stuff, then headed to the the Alabama Hills Cafe for some absolutely enormous sandwiches. This would turn out to be important fuel, as we drove up into the mountains and accidentally hiked the bottom half of Mt. Whitney. 

23.May 2015 - Part II - Bodie

After a getting our bearings in Bridgeport, we drove up into the hills to visit the ghost town in Bodie. It was freezing cold and snowing, which made for less-than-pleasant adventuring but awesome photos. Also, Bodie has some great outhouses. Everybody poops.
