Hi, I'm trying to write a character that has shut all human emotion out and is very analytical and smart (like Sherlock Holmes or Sameen from Person of Interest) Any tips? Thank you, I look forward to your answer!
Even people who are considered “robots” have emotion. Sure characters like these have learned to shut out most of their emotion and aren’t likely to show much of it, but they are still human (right?) and occasionally do let their emotion show through.
Analytical thinkers thrive on and relish information. Like Sherlock they enjoy learning bits of data that most people would consider useless but for them it’s a piece of an unknown puzzle they may need later on.
They also tend to be good at putting those puzzle pieces together. With all their information and being that they shut out emotion they would be good at thinking in a very objective way without bias (or at least not quite as much) since they would search for the facts of both sides of an argument. Whereas more emotional thinkers might get stuck on thinking of others or worrying about emotional fallout, this character would just look at the facts.
Again, like Sherlock, this character could get irritated by other people’s inability to think like them and understand their way of working. They like things their way because it’s the right way.
The ultimate realist.
Those are just some points that I kind of found to be in common in characters like the ones you describe. If I have one warning it would be that even though this character is bound to get into trouble with most of the others but just be careful not to cross any lines that they can’t come back from…unless that’s the point.
