This post is for anyone who has broken a promise made to a deity, or is worried about doing so.

I have a variety of mental diagnoses: PTSD, ADHD, Severe Depression, Mania, Borderline Personality Disorder, OCD, and the list goes on. My gods KNOW this.

So, sometimes when I’m feeling amazing, I will make a promise I think I can keep but when the time comes, I can’t, due to one or more of the conditions stated above.

Or sometimes I promise something by a certain date, and on that day all hell breaks loose, there’s emergencies I have to attend (like dog suddenly needing surgery or sister ran away from home and needs to stay over, my boss needs me to suddenly come in, etc.) or, I FORGET (it happens, especially if you get caught up in life.)

It’s okay.

Your deity can see this but your unconfident mind might try and guilt you into no longer following them because you think they are furious with you and guess what?

Your emotions will override anything your deity tries to tell you because human emotions dictate your life. They label things as good and bad and might even bully you into leaving the craft. (This is how I left years ago before meeting Aphrodite.)

PROMISES ARE SUPER IMPORTANT, BUT YOU ARE ALSO HUMAN (and might break them.)

What do you do when you break a promise?

Talk to your deity. Explain what happened and why you broke your promise.

Then ask “How Can I Fix It?” (Think of it to be akin to the 12 labors of Hercules, although you might need to do less than that) What do they want as an apology gift? What task or tasks can you do for their forgiveness?

One time I had to spend a week reading pornographic stories to Aphrodite, or playing her favorite romantic movies.

Apollo occasionally makes me write him a heartfelt poem or make a song from my apology, and

Ares makes me do a few push-ups, lunges or workout routines for a couple of weeks. It really depends on the deity.

Sometimes they’ll ask for a present they know you can afford.

The degree of the labor and type depends on your deity BUT try to make it something you can easily add to your daily routine or within your budget. This is super important to ensure you are able to complete your labor.

I am currently in the middle of a few labors myself and I can feel the gods will occasionally peer over my shoulder and smile. They love you no matter what because they know humans will sometimes mess up, and YOU ARE THEIR HUMAN.

REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOUR UNCONFIDENT MIND SAYS THEY WANT TO KEEP WORKING WITH YOU.

After your labor, write down (keep a record in your journal/ BoS/ Grimoire) what happened, how your god felt and how you can avoid this in the future.

Next time instead of making a promise, make an agreement and let your deity know: You will TRY to do it if everything goes as planned. I hope this helps,

1) Smudging is part of a closed religion. Please don’t participate in smudging if your not apart of it. 

2) DON’T USE WHITE SAGE!! It’s highly endangered!!!!

3) Before you work with deities you NEED to protect and ward to make sure your actually talking to a deity. 

4) Deities will not engage in a romantic or sexual relationship!!! If your ‘deity’ is flirting and has feelings for you. That is not your deity. 

5) DO NOT work with the fae if you’re a beginner! Please please please do your research on them before engaging in any contact!

6) Don’t accept gifts from the fae unless you want to work with them for the rest of your life. 

7) Rosemary, white candles, and roses can substitute for any intention.

writing a protective sigil inside your door to avoid bad energies to enter your room

making sigils by yourself works better because you pour your intention into it and can be a great way to manifest

white candles can replace any candle when doing candle magick

clear quartz can replace any crystal

when drinking your daily coffee/tea, stir clockwise to manifest something and anti-clockwise to let go of something. repeat your affirmations as you stir

salt baths absorb bad energies so having a salt bath once in a while helps with having your energies balanced

write an affirmation in a bay leaf and burn it to manifest it

always keep iron on you for protection

work with the moon phases and transits to make your spells more powerful

keep a sigil in your phone case for protection/manifestation

after giving an offering to a deity, return it to the earth

drink mugwort tea for lucid dreaming/astral projection (don’t drink it if you are pregnant!!)

before you put a crystal under water or in the sun, research about it

keep a dream journal. it helps for lucid dreaming.

put an amethyst under your pillow to sleep better and to recall your dreams

charge your tarot/oracle cards by putting a crystal on top of them while you are not usinf them

mix moon or sun water with your cosmetics for a quick beauty spell

try to do an activity to connect yourself with each element everyday. (ex: a bath for water, walking barefoot for earth, lighting a candle for fire, singing for air)
