"if Jax is a trans woman she's still an abuser so she's bad representation so the show is transphobic" you're an idiot. you want your blorbos to be perfect ideal angels, I want my blorbos to be realistic, nuanced, flawed human beings, we are not the same. I LIKE that she's messy and fucked up and problematic, I think it's a realistic depiction of how a lot of repressed and traumatized trans women are. I think the show goes to great lengths to explore how and why she is the way she is, and to evoke sympathy for this kind of person. it doesn't excuse her actions but it does make them understandable. and I think the fact women like that deserve sympathy is an idea worth stating and worth shouting. yes she's a bully and she hurt everyone around her and that may never change. she still deserves sympathy.

It’s good because it’s a tragedy. She could have been vulnerable, could have opened up, could have reached out for help at anytime. Ribbit could have lived, Kuafmo could have lived, and Jax could have lived. But she couldn’t be brave enough to risk being hurt again, so her spiral made her ruin everything. And so, she went through her existence utterly alone and unloved from what she could see, until the end. The end where she was finally affirmed, finally loved, finally able to be vulnerable. Finally herself.

Never, ever underestimate the power of spite. We like to act like hope and courage are the only valid motivators, but the truth is that any force that pushes you one more step is valid. For me, I see the various evils in the world right now, and my power to fight them is limited. All I can say is that no matter what they are, no matter what they do, I will live to see them put down to rot. And as the ones I hate fall one by one, I will find new enemies to outlast. Someday I may fail, but I will have lived long enough to see some of them get blown away and forgotten.

I gotta say, I don’t really get the idea that skeletons are scary. Did people growing up think they were scary? I mean, I hear people talk about them as horror monsters, where my reaction as a kid was either “Thems in me” or “Fuck you and your bow”, but never terror.

I was just thinking back to the last time I saw my great grandma. She had Alzheimer’s pretty bad, and I doubt she really remembered who any of us were.

But there was this one moment when she held my arm and whispered like it was a secret: “You know, I really like the Indians”.

Now, this is an old white lady born in the 30s or 40s, who spent most of her life on a reservation or an RV. Part of me wants to think it’s sweet, the fact that she wasn’t racist in the haze of memories she was in. On the other hand, my Yaya was taken from her father as part of the Indian Adoption Project, and that’s how I’m related to this lady. And the idea that she is kind and tolerant is soured by the fact that she is part of the reason why my mom never really knew her grandfather. And that phrasing felt odd “I really like the Indians”. Is that why she adopted her? She wanted an Indian of her own?

I don’t know, but I think about it more often than I’d like to admit.

So, I think we should really appreciate American Eagle and Dunkin’ Donuts right now.
