Vex telling Vax that she was jealous "stuck" in Whitestone and wanted her own adventure really got me thinking about her and what she wants.
Because she's wanted the title/status of a noble basically forever, or at the very least to be treated like one (Do I look like I come from nobility?) But I think that second part (to be treated like one) is really the key to her character. Because what she really wanted growing up was love and respect from her father that he could never give. To be treated as an equal instead of judged by society. And because of the way her father lived his life, she came to see being noble as the only way to get there.
Except it's not. And her time with VM teaches her that. When Percy gives her that title, she doesn't fall for him because of the title itself or even the life it represents. It's because he respects her, values her—he thinks she is worth standing up for. That's something nobody but Vax has ever done (as she says) and something she's always sort of longed for.
And if you look at her relationship with Percy, it's never the wealth or the extravagance that makes her fall for him. That's not to say she doesn't find any fun in it, but it's the little moments camping in the woods, or protecting one another in battle, or having heart-to-hearts between fights. It's authenticity and trust and yes, mutual respect
But these things take time to unlearn, and I do think Vex needed to spend that time as a noble to learn what she actually values. Yes, the balls are fun. Yes, there is a part of her character (& more so in campaign I think) that is very attracted to wealth having grown up without it. But society isn't what she really wants because she's learned that wealth and high society are not the only pathway to love and respect.
Plus yeah, she's an adventurer. She's a Ranger and she belongs to the woods and she longs to be free, but she's also spent her life thinking she needs to give up that part of herself to be treated with care and to be valued. And because she always needed to be on the road, she never had the chance (until now) to consider that maybe she actually wanted to. She is very much herself in that life, and I think Percy taught her that that version of her — the one who runs through the woods with her bow and looks messy and gets in trouble — is just as deserving of adoration as the version who can dress up and look sophisticated etc.
I think if she'd really succumbed to the life of a noble her wedding would have been super opulent and over the top. I think season 1 Vex might have gone for that. But that's not who she is anymore.
So yeah she does her secret wedding. Because she's missing the spontaneity and authenticity that allowed her to find that love in the first place. And she wants to regain a touch of that adventure that really feels like home to her while centering it on the actual way she finally found respect and care, which is through love.
vax talking about being crushed that he wasn’t at perc’ahlia’s wedding oh i need dalen’s closet and scanlan’s wish to be animated so bad
Holy shit that scream.......... is Ashley Johnson's throat okay cause she put her whole chest into that 🫠

Sorry that saving my life cost you yours. The Legend of Vox Machina 4x06
Thoughts on the new TLOVM episodes!
Such a wonderful return to comedy in a very very dark season! Heist episode was 10/10 hijinks, exactly as chaotic as I anticipated, could not have asked for better! Definitely a top 3 episode for me and bonus points for the score which was AWESOME!
I didn't expect to sympathize with Taryon as much as I did come the end of episode 4, but he's such a sweetie🥹 A silly sweetie but a sweetie! Also Vex being the one who clocked his trauma the most (imo) was quite fitting given her own.
Happy for some MUCH needed stealth twin time in episodes 4-5. These two will always be the (doomed) heart of the show to me, and I was happy to see more of their escapades after kind of a long break.
And ELOPEMENT CONFIRMED?! I mean we knew but still. Surprised they revealed it so early given that we didn't see it...I am hoping this means we get their actual wedding à la Dalen's closet.
And then episode 6. Holy shit. We're heading into the dark shit now and I don't think we're coming back. That being said I ADORED the Vax/Percy and ESPECIALLY Keyleth/Vex duos here (MY GIRLS!) So angsty but so sweet they really are a family🥹
Vax's story is so tragic...and the show is really helping every character explore the weight of that loss in a beautiful way.
And POP POP?! I was SO SAD I LOVED HIM SO MUCH😭😭😭 Poor Pike is having such an arc rn — I initially thought she might take a dark turn but now I'm less sure. Also that SCREAM?! Ashley Johnson the actor you are...
And I knew Delilah was back but I still screamed THAT BITCH. It's on sight with me...I REALLY hope Vex shoots an arrow through her face like in the campaign.
One thing I like about this show (at least in my eyes) is that every season serves a different purpose and it knows that. Season 1 was about exploring the group dynamic using an overarching plot and a colorful cast of teammates. Season 2 gave each of those teammates individual episodes in a less connected plot in order to delve into them as individuals beyond the group dynamic. Season 3 was about romance and zeroed in on those relationships within the group as the centers for a lot of the epic dramatic scenes. But season 4 seems to really want to explore dynamics beyond romance and use quieter moments to cement the group as a true family. And I'm SO here for it!
I think we're going into dark waters...next week is haunted house which I'm HYPED for! How long until Vax dies do we think?
For what it's worth I am only starting campaign 1, so I recognize that I may have less of a metric of comparison than OG viewers. I've seen the criticisms going around, and while I am personally loving this season and prefer to focus on the positives in my own reviews, I 100% recognize the issues people are having with it too! My little reviews are never meant to invalidate those or anything 🫶🏼

Take my hand, Take my whole life, too.
it actually is insane to me that it's a cultural norm for men to suck ass at getting their wives/gfs gifts. especially when they whine about how they have no idea what women like.
man, you're not getting a gift for Female Domestic Partner. you're getting a gift for Natalie, a person whom you have been married to for 7 years, whom has lived in the same home with you for a decade, whom speaks to you every day about her thoughts and interests, whom you presumably love, and whom you can directly or indirectly ask what she wants. it's not that you don't know what half the human population wants, that's irrelevant. you don't know what Natalie wants and that is inexcusable.
A little screenshot redraw because I’m just so in love with them 💜💜

I am newish to C1 and don't suuuper care abt campaign accuracy in VM so long as major themes and narrative beats are intact.
Buuuut if they bring back the Briarwoods I really really want Vex to be the one who kills them both finally like in the campaign (minus C3 but point stands).
Like something something your lover can give up his revenge quest but still he deserves justice so you do it something something.
...
(Also I want them to do Dalen's Closet I need it in my soul).
