i can’t lie, i really did like the idea of the lifesteal council, and i do still have my hopes for them, but thus far i’m not the biggest fan of the current changes from lifesteal 7.
like, i understand the lack of death bans and the rules for overpowered teams on an event season like lifesteal world, where the server was filled with creators from all sorts of different spaces. making sure that all of these people had a fun time on lifesteal generally took precedence over keeping the actual lifesteal experience. now, though, we’re taking those rules onto actual lifesteal. public bases are whatever, i understand it for content purposes even if i personally enjoy base hunting, but not everything needs to carry over into the actual season. one of my big “things” with this is death banning.
in my opinion, there’s no genuine reason to turn off death bans, aside from enabling people to play lifesteal on 1 heart. i don’t even think it’s an accommodation thing, really, because death bans haven’t been a genuine threat in a long while. but death bans still serve a purpose! death bans can used so well for a narrative purpose, and you don’t even need to pull from “early seasons” to see this. hell, i can think of so many examples from lifesteal 6, like:
atlas’ mission to unban everyone
kab and clown reviving red
flame giving everything to zam and banning himself
rek banning himself in front of woogie…
…leading into woogie banning himself in front of zam
and yes, i understand it’s more a friend server now, but there’s still content to be made, right? even just the idea of a death ban, even if generally not feasible without intention, can add underlying stakes to every situation, and shapes the constant drive for more hearts, more hearts. not only that, but this is something that’s integral to lifesteal’s identify as a server— “a server where if you die, you lose a heart, and if you lose all your hearts, you get banned”.
idk. maybe i wouldn’t have such an issue with all these new rules if lifesteal wasn’t also badly enforcing the rules that have been in place for literally ages. i don’t really watch spongs or his content, but the result of what happened with his end platform kb trap is honestly just absurd. sb, who had originally been working with spongs and thus knew about spongs’ trap, immediately elytra’d out from the end platform as he got hit. loppezz combat logged after getting hit off. flow very likely knew about spongs’ trap as well, being in call with sb, and similarily elytra’d out.
and like, yeah, whatever, everyone’s broken the rules, i don’t honestly care. i know people can argue for both flow and sb, and while i personally disagree with loppezz’s punishment— i think she should’ve given spongs her gear as well as the heart— i know that her being a new member factored into it. what i do care about, though, is how it was ruled that spongs was exploiting an inability to place blocks on the end platform, and as such there’d be no ruling on if flow and sb were elytra-ing in combat or not. this is despite not only this limitation not being announced, but also that it only affected spongs’ kill on zam, which he did with sb. so then how come sb wasn’t considered to be exploiting as well? and what’s the point of all these rules if not all of them are actually and properly enforced? it just annoys me.
