Supernatural Verse (Update)
Azrael is the archangel of death, transformation and retribution. She is rumored to have died when Metatron cast the angels out of Heaven.
Unlike her four older brothers, Heavenâs most fearsome wrath, Azraelâs status of archangel is not well-known. Ironically, while Metatron, a common angel, was mistaken to be an archangel, Azrael concealed her identity utilizing the status of Rit Zien, the medics of Heaven.
As the Angel of Death, her duties were uniquely hers. She worked alongside Death and his Reapers, delivering souls to their final destination, a mediator between Earth, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, and The Empty.
Her responsibilities differ from Reapers in that she is the sole ferry for angels and demons alike to The Empty, their afterlife. However, she has no real recollection of what The Empty is nor her interactions with the Shadow. Azrael acts on instinct, knowing which being has passed and to ferry them to The Empty, but the process itself is unknown, even to her. Sheâs an empath to those grieving and to the newly deceased. She does not know when someone will die until moments before their passing.
Unlike the Reapers, her allegiance lies with God, not Death, though she has a healthy respect for Death, and other primordial entities, like The Shadow.
Azrael acts more human than the majority of her celestial siblings, having spent the majority of her existence on Earth and interacting with human souls to some capacity since the first death. Whenever she had to interact with any of her siblings, Azrael played the role of the average angel belonging to Rit Zien. Still, she was noted among angels to be odd in mannerisms with a tendency to emote and offer affection in varying degrees. Her more cheerful disposition led to her kindness and patience to be mistaken for weakness. When in reality, she retains the power and might of an archangel.
Rumors spread that she was among the dead following Metatron cast the angels out from Heaven. A rumor that was intentionally spread. Azrael had already been on Earth, as she had been since the early days of creation.
When the angels began to break into fractions, Azrael empathized most with the penitents. She did not want to participate in conflict, despite her status as an archangel. She tried to continue her role by taking her deceased siblings to The Empty but it became too much. After ferrying so many of her siblings to the Empty, it became unbearable.
She forcibly removed her own grace and kept it in a necklace, becoming as human as an archangel can become. Due to her powers as an archangel, she retained her vessel, the same one she had used for eons, and lives on as a human with memories intact.
Her only wish is for her family to get along and stop the needless bloodshed. However, with only a handful of her family left, she considers it all pointless, doing her best to live a mundane human life until she meets her end or the world ends, whichever comes first.
