Introverted:Ā Like most introverts, Riley ultimately thrives off solitude. He enjoys good company as much as the next person and he can be quite the socialite when he wants to be, but at the end of the day, he needs some time on his own in order to recharge his batteries. That being said, heās very introspective and self-aware. He loves to explore the sub-conscious and ponder over his thoughts, musings, and ideas. Itās not at all uncommon to find him taking a nightly stroll all by himself in order to reflect on the dayās events.
Vain: Riley may not like to admit it, but heās quite vain. First impressions are important and heās always been unbelievably concerned with the way he looks. He makes a great deal of effort to stay on top of the latest trends and goes to even greater lengths to keep his body groomed, clean, tidy, fit, and toned. On the positive side, heās very healthy and rarely gets sick, heās actually quite humble, and his attention to detail often carries over into whatever work heās doing.Ā
Intuitive:Ā Riley is a very calculating person in nature but of all the variables to consider when judging a situation, his gut will speak the loudest. His heart or brain could be pulling him in one direction, but if his gut is telling him to do something completely different, heās gonna do it. He has good instincts and itās by putting his faith in those unexplainable forces in life that heās managed to find reassurance in his day-to-day activities. Heās a deep believer inĀ āEverything happens for a reasonā as well asĀ āGood things come to those who wait.ā He believes that so long as heās doing the right thing and putting in the right amount of work, heāll surround himself with good karma.Ā
Riley was born into a wealthy family business that had been booming since the first days of Canalave City. For generations, his family has had a tremendous amount of influence on the port town and itās through that business that the Emersonās are currently as wealthy as they are today. That being said, many responsibilities and expectations had been thrust upon Riley at an early age, and although he never actually expressed interest in continuing in the family business, he silently complied with his fatherās demands knowing that there was no one else to keep the family legacy alive.
Growing up, Rileyās father had always been very strict on him. He didnāt get to socialize very much as a child, he was very much sheltered in and, across the board, there were a lot of decisions that were automatically made for him - even as an adolescent. It really wasnāt until Riley finally left for college that he got his first taste of independence. In fact, he went so far out of his way to leave home that he actually decided to apply and study abroad at LU - Lumiose University.... waaaay out in Kalos... away from his fatherās reach.
This marked a huge turning point in Rileyās life.Ā
For the first time in his life, Riley was able to make his own decisions. He was able to speak for himself and finally live his own life - and a ānormalā one at that, too. Little by little, Riley began to make friends; he would go out to parties, get himself involved with student organizations, and slowly break out of his shell. He even landed a job working for Boutique Couture - a nearly impossible feat for the average consumer! There were honestly so many great things going on in his life that one could easily say that, after four years, Riley had graduated as an entirely new man.Ā
In 2014, Riley finally graduated from LU with his Bachelorās in Business Management & Marketing, much to his fatherās content. At some point in his early Junior year, though, he realized that marketing wasnāt what he wanted to do with his life - let alone, take over the family business. For the last two years of his undergrad, he was willing to bite the bullet in order to appease his father, but now that he had graduated, he didnāt know how to break the news to him. In an attempt to buy himself some time, Riley tried to jump into LUās Grad program, but after just one semester, he had to quit. He just couldnāt find it in him to work so hard for something that he was so obviously not passionate about. And that brings us to the present.Ā
Riley feels burnt out. After spending the majority of his life trying to fulfill his fatherās wishes, heās finally taking a minute to clear his head and redirect his life. At the moment, he's currently taking a year off from school - a period of self-reflection and soul-searching, if you will. Right now, his biggest challenge is figuring out what he wants to do with his life, and itās only until heās found that one thing that heās passionate for that heāll be ready to confront his father.Ā
Frat Boy: While studying at LU, Riley was initiated into a fraternity - Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Initially skeptical towards the idea of Greek life, it was actually through his brotherhood that Riley ultimately came out of his shell, developed his social skills, and made his mark as a top student at LU.
Pokemon Training: Riley makes for a decent Pokemon Trainer. Even though training was never his thing as a child (or his fatherās thing, for that matter), heās come to really enjoy it as a hobby. He doesnāt know if he could ever see himself as a serious Trainer or even a Champion, but him and Lucario thoroughly enjoy battling together.
Iron Island: Rileyās family owns a small chain of islands surrounding Canalave City, one of those being Iron Island. In the earlier generations of the Emerson business, Iron Island used to be a major mining facility but at some point in the 60ā²s, the ore reserves dried up and the mine was abandoned. Since then, it has been reopened as a training area and a natural habitat for wild Pokemon. When in need of privacy, Riley will often sail here on his own.Ā
Lumiose: Riley absolutely loves Lumiose City. With his campus wedged into the heart of the city, it was so easy for him to explore every nook and cranny. He wasĀ especially fond of Cafe Classe, Restaurent Le Wow, and Sushi High Roller. He often entertains the idea of moving back and simply living there.
