š The Midnight Hour Legacy Challenge for TS4 š
Welcome to The Midnight Hour - a time when mysterious creatures of the night revel beneath the darkened skies and pearly moonlight. This Sims 4 legacy challenge will take you through 10 generations of storybook-esque occult gameplay!
General Rules:
Max the skills listed and complete all the gameplay goals.Ā
Reach the top of your career.
Each generation has two aspirations. Switch between them during gameplay in order to complete both unless otherwise specified.
Normal lifespan is recommended, but you can play on any lifespan you want.
Cheating for money is allowed (although not recommended).
Do not cheat for skills or goals (unless you encounter glitches/bugs in which case please be my guest and cheat).
Use the hashtag #midnighthourlegacy to share your gameplay.
Notes:Ā
Each generation has a CAS, build, and gameplay specific challenge.Ā
Most packs are needed to play this challenge in its entirety. I urge you to change up any rules or goals to suit your own gameplay and whatever packs you have.
As occult gameplay is often lacking, I highly recommend playing with mods/cc to enhance your gameplay. Always download and add mods/cc to your game with caution.
Disclaimer:
There may be some issues with completing certain goals in this challenge due to the already existing lore in The Sims 4 where certain occults do not get along with one another (werewolves and vampires hating each other upon meeting, also fairies disliking spellcasters and vampires). If you have any issues please feel free to send me a message on tumblr @jasminesilk so I can update the challenge accordingly.

Special thank you to both @queenmabsim and @lilacacia for reading over these rules and helping me iron out the details. I appreciate your insight and suggestions so very much!

I still think about the time I got a job by talking about my simblr in the interview
@elvisgrace
Okay so I went to an interview for a company that makes comedy shows in the UK and a friend who had a little more experience than me was also being interviewed, although I didn't know this.
And we discussed my work in the TV/film industry at this point and I had only ever worked on set and this job would be in office which meant I was unlikely to get the job because the type of work is very different.
Until we got to the "tell me about life outside of work" section of the interview and I mentioned a few hobbies and stuff and it was completely normal.
Until I mentioned my Simblr...
And I didn't go into huge nerdy detail, I said "Oh I also use the game the sims to make a mini soap opera" and the producer interviewing me had never heard of such a thing before and asked me to elaborate.
"Well the game comes with a camera you can move around, and over the last 15 years people who play the game have been modding content you can download into it, so you could make a historical drama or a scifi, anything really. And photoshop helps with any other limitations"
Interviewer was really intrested in the modding part so I told her about people I spoke with on various platforms who either made stuff for me or helped me find somthing that I asked for, always for free.
And the thing is, in office when making TV shows you need to make friends and contacts to be able to get things sorted on a short time scale, you'll need to have things custom made and you'll need video and photo editing skills.
All of which I had accidently mentioned I do within the sims community, without knowing it I had a transferable skill.
My friend ended up getting hired because she had the confirmed skills needed but then called me up and said they'd adjusted the budget and would like to hire me as well on a shorter contract and admitted it was the sims talk that made it impossible for them to not want me.
So yeah, got a job by talking about my sims hobby.
i too currently have a full time job in publicity / social media management for a publishing company, which i secured DIRECTLY using the skills i learned exclusively from simblr lol - they are 100% transferrable!

part 1 covered my absolute essentials, but of course I have more. these are the āoh right, these are essential tooā builds that always end up in my worlds before I even hit play.
Magic Realm HQ by @frenchiesimgirl
world: glimmerbrook
size: 50x40
lot type: secret lot - magic realm
when i set out to make a fully magical save, i mustāve tried a hundred builds on the magic realm lot. most were gorgeous but way too heavy for my pc. i only tried this one recently, and it surprised me - the outside is simple, but the interior garden is lovely, and with just two floors it has everything a spellcaster needs without slowing my game.
Copperdale High School by @cubzikbuilds
world: copperdale
size: 64x64
lot type: high school
it took me ages to find a high school that was properly decorated but not so cluttered that it slowed my game. this one finally hits the balance - detailed enough to feel alive, but light enough that my pc doesnāt suffer.
Magnolia Blossom park by @haledela
world: willow creek
size: 50x50
lot type: park
donāt ask me why, but out of all the park lots in the sims, this is the one i always replace first. every new save, i go straight to willow creek and swap the original magnolia blossom for haledelaās version. at this point itās my canon park - i donāt even bother trying anything else for that lot anymore.
70s Modern Home by @lolitasims
world: del sol valley
size: 40x30
lot type: residential
del sol valley, to me, is basically midācentury heaven. i always try to give it that 60s-70s hollywood vibe, and i actually found this build by chance while hunting for a house for one of my legacy heirs. itās honestly the most original take on the style iāve seen. the original lot is bigger than the one i used, but it still fits - i only lost a few palm trees and the bike hangar. if you donāt have access to the ea gallery, dm me and iāll share the tray files.
look, this build is iconic. with the for rent ep it became even more fun to play - and i still need to test it with businesses & hobbies. if youāre looking for a grunge, industrial, wornāin kind of lot to give moonwood mill the right atmosphere, this one nails it. grab it, it wonāt disappoint you ;)
I discovered the blue crop tank from Discover University matched perfectly with the blue corduroy sweats from Adventure Awaits. Instead of just adding extra swatches to the pants, I tried my hand at frankenmeshing and made it into a full Base Game compatible outfit! Top is unedited from original, bottom is edited to match.

Indulge in the cozy chaos of late-night grocery runs for midnight cravings with our brand-new set! This collection is packed with essentials for those moments when hunger strikes after dark.
This time, we are proudly introducing our very first functional food items! Since so many of you have been asking if we would ever make food mods and recipes, we have finally done it. This set includes two functional food items, both of which can be quickly grabbed from the Grocery Bag. No cooking required and ready to be consumed by your Sims!
⨠How to install the Recipe āØ
Must download the Grocery Haul Bag to be able to access the food.
Download the Instant Ramen Bowl and Grab&Go Bento recipes, and you are all set!
These should not conflict with other food or recipe mods.
I first started making this challenge back in 2021 for Simblreen. It then sat in my google documents for years without being touched. I finally remembered it's existence this year and even though I said I wasn't going to, I finished it. It's probably still rough around the edges, I would love feedback, suggestions for the future generations (because I will probably add more than 10!) But for now, here it is, my first from-scratch Legacy Challenge!
It is a 10-generation legacy challenge, based on the Goosebumps Classics books. Each Generation is separate from the one before and the one after. I made them to be like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, where you can pick the Generations you want to play in the order you want to play them. You can play as a Berry Simmer or a regular Simmer, it doesn't use all packs and sometimes has addendums on if you don't have a particular one.
Eventually, more will be added. I consider this to be something that I'll go back to over time and add more books to the collection.
You can find access to it from the dedicated page on my Tumblr ! here ! but it's permanent home is on Google Documents, found at the link below. So why don't you go on and:

I was playing the game the other day and kept getting irritated that I had to keep checking on my laundry to see if the cycle was finished or not. I was then shocked to find out that there wasn't a mod already out there to notify you when your laundry cycle was done...so I made one!
Features:
Provides an in-game notification when the cycle is done for washing machine, dryer, & clothesline.
Given the state of your washing machine & dryer, it might not be that your clothes are cleaned and/or dried, it just lets you know that the cycle is finished! (you may have to dry it or wash it again)
There's a bunch of different variations of the notification you receive.
The notification comes from your washer, dryer or clothesline--which I think is funny.
Currently it's only in English & Italian (thanks to @stranizia), if anyone wants to translate it into other languages, please reach out!!
Plumbuddy manifested.
Requirements:
Lot 51 Core Library
Laundry Day DLC
I want to thank Tralfaz, Amethyst-lilac & Waffle for helping in the creation of the mod; Stranizia, cowplant-snacks, siphonosim, ashton, snickerdoodles & halla for testing of the mod; and lot51 & sims4studio team for the tools to build the mod!
A tiny helper for busy sims households. This functional robot vacuum keeps floors tidy while looking cute at the same time. It comes with its own charging dock to sit neatly against the wall when itās not cleaning.
With DXVK and S3SS living their high days, older Sims 3 installment guides are rapidly starting to become outdated. So here's a brand new and up-to-date step-by-step guide to go through when you do a fresh install of your game that will help you get the best performance you could possibly imagine for this old and laggy gem of a game.
Have Sims 3 installed, but is it performing abhorrently? I highly recommend a fresh install. You don't have to delete your saves or mods. Just get yourself a fresh bin to work with by uninstalling, going into your program files The Sims 3 folder and deleting any remnant files still in there. Then follow my guide!
All of the steps to follow are below the line ->
Step 1: install your game through your respected platform.
Just follow the regular steps and install the game without adding any other stuff yet whatsoever.
(I personally have a legit copy of the Sims 3 on Steam. If you use another app and have any questions, I'll probably not be able to help you.)
Step 2: run the game once through the official launcher. Once you get to the main menu, you can quit again.
It is very important you run your game through the original launcher at least once after installing it. Not doing so can cause problems with programs like CC magic. You only need to do it the first time. After that, we'll be skipping the launcher entirely.
Step 3: Create a short cut of TS3W.exe on your desktop.
You'll be skipping the launcher from now on. This helps with performance and it starts up your game much faster. It is also important to do this because of DXVK.
You can find TS3W.exe in your bin folder. For me (Steam version) it's in this location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
Right click TS3W.exe, click 'show more options' and choose 'create a shortcut'. Place this shortcut on your desktop and Run Sims 3 from there from now on.
Step 4: Run the GPU Add-on Support patcher
You can find this patcher here. It is essential to run this because Sims will otherwise not recognize your graphics card unless it's over 10 years old. This patcher helps to get your GPU recognized.
The patcher will create a new Graphicsrules.sgr and new Graphicscards.sgr for you in your bin folder. After installing this, you can move the ones that have _old behind them somewhere else (or delete them).
P.S.: if you pirate your game you'll have to do this manually, there's guides online for it but since I have a legit copy I can't help you here.
Step 5: Install DXVK
Make sure you follow this guide by Nornite and do every single step. Don't skip anything!
I'd say DXVK is pretty essential nowadays, especially if you have a modern graphics card with 6GB of VRAM or higher. It'll greatly help to keep your game stable and can prevent a lot of crashes. The way Dxvk works, is that it loads textures through your VRAM instead of your RAM. Especially when you use a lot of CC or HD textures, this will make a huge difference for your RAM usage. Sims 3 can only use 4GB of RAM at once and will start crashing once you hit the 3GB mark in your task manager. With DXVK, you will use a lot less RAM and it'll take much longer for your game to reach this hard cap.
When not to install DXVK: if you have a shitty GPU (like an integrated graphics card on a laptop, or one with 4GB of VRAM or less).
Step 5: Start up the game
Use your new desktop shortcut that also has 'run as administrator' permissions now if you followed the DXVK guide properly.
Step 6: set up all your settings through the ingame options menu
The best graphics settings for you will highly depend on what computer you're using. But there are some things you should always turn off because they negatively affect performance. I will share my (relevant) settings with you (I use a custom UI so your screen style will look a little different from mine). Click on the images to enlarge them so you can read them:
Things of note about these settings:
I recommend you play in windowed mode, especially if you plan to use ReShade. Playing fullscreen is possible, but it does make Reshade presets behave differently in your game. I will include a step in this guide that you can follow to play windowed borderless. So, when you plan to do this: make sure you set the resolution to your display resolution.
Enable object hiding helps with performance. Advanced rendering is essential because otherwise your game looks like absolute shit.
Set your High Detail Lots to any value between 2 and 4. Don't go lower or higher, because you'll get rendering issues that lag out your game.
All other graphics settings can be set to your heart's desire. I'd say start with the highest settings and only go down if you notice your frames per second are bad.
Disable shop mode and lessons and fully disable memories or use this mod to severly limit them. Disable interactive loading screens as well. These are all performance eaters. Interactive loading screen also causes crashes. Memories also don't do anything for your sim, it's just a scrap book with no in-game effects.
Disable any online mode feature. This also lags out your game. Unless you really want to use these features it's best to just play fully offline.
Save your settings, close the game again.
Step 7: Install Sims 3 Settings Setter
This is the most recent magic genie that Sims 3 was blessed with. Especially combined with DXVK it is a life changer. Installing it is simple. You download the most recent version here and drop the .asi file in your bin. Also grab 'wininet.dll' from here (the 32 bit one) and drop that one in your bin too.
Start up your game and load up a save. Once you're inside your save, you press 'insert' to open up the menu for Sims 3 Settings Setter. Go to the 'patches' tab and enable what you like. These are my enabled patches and they all work really well for me, but feel free to experiment with them to find your own performance sweet spot:
Only enable uncompressed textures if you have a GPU with at least 8gb of VRAM. My game will use over 6gb of VRAM easily with this enabled, so you've been warned.
Once you have everything you desire enabled, press 'file' in the top left corner and click 'save settings'.
Step 7.5: if you're playing windowed mode: go into the Other/QoL tab and enable 'Borderless Window'. Set it to 'Full Screen'.
Save your settings and close your game again. No need to save the game you entered for this unless you want to.
Step 8: Install Nraas Errortrap, MasterController and Overwatch
These 3 mods by Nraas are pretty much essential to keep your game from breaking down in the long run. You can download the mods here. Have you never installed a mod for Sims 3 before? Here's a guide (skip the part about Sims3pack and go straight to the part where it explains how to install .package mods).
That's it! You can now play The Sims 3 and it'll be as smooth and stable as it'll ever be. From here on, you can stock your game with more mods and CC (check out my mods masterlist!), or you can install Reshade (here's a guide).
Some important things to keep in mind while playing:
Clean up your game regularly. You can easily do this by using Regul Save Cleaner.
When you install a new mod or update/change Sims 3 Settings Setter, always restart and clear your caches.
Use CC Magic for installing CC, because it merges your files and this really helps with performance. Here's a handy guide on how to use it. Don't put your script mods in here, just your CC.
If you plan to travel to vacation destinations in the EP World Adventures, Nraas Traveler is a must to prevent most of the bugs and crashes that happen in this expansion.
Always keep in mind: mods and corrupt CC can still break your game, make it laggy or unplayable. Always be mindful of the mods you add, so you can always trace any issues you're having back to the mod causing it. I highly recommend not downloading a ton of mods in one session, but adding them step by step and see what they do to your games performance.
Use 'Reset the entire town' from Nraas MasterController at least every other sim week. It'll help clear up any lag that happens because of NPC sims getting themselves stuck routing or annoying stuff like that.
Got a slow CAS? Use Nraas MasterController Compact mode! (Make sure you have the Nraas MasterController Integration module installed).
Navigate to NRaas > MasterController > Settings > CAS.
Set the following to True:
Show in Compact Form: Accessories
Show in Compact Form: Clothing
Show in Compact Form: Hats

The idea behind the LEPacy challenge (originally created for Sims 3 by @simpishly was that each generation focused on a different expansion pack of the game.Ā
When I adapted it for The Sims 4 in 2019, I did not know that this game would continue on for so long, with no end in sight. It makes for an incredibly long challenge. Iāve decided that I will no longer update that, but create a new legacy challenge with a similar idea.Ā
With the Theme LEPacy, I have divided various Expansion, Game, and even some Stuff packs into 12 different gameplay themes. Some of these packs will show up in multiple generations because they have multiple themes in them. Each generation has options for various packs, so you do not need to have all of the packs to play them, but instead just the ones you want.Ā
You can also adapt it to your gameplay preferences, such as skipping the Occult generation entirely if thatās not gameplay you enjoy.Ā
I will update this challenge as needed, because future packs will no doubt fit into at least one of the themes.Ā
Not all Stuff Packs are represented, and I also didnāt fit Spa Day in.Ā
In the original LEPacy rules, and my Sims 4 LEPacy rules, it was suggested to wait to āunlockā packs until you reached that generation. That is not necessary for this challenge. Have all the packs you want active.Ā
Notes: If thereās no mention of a particular career/way to make money, then do what you want. Same for number of children
Optional Rules over multiple generations:Ā
The āFamily Homeā
The lot you move to with your first generation becomes the āfamily homeā. The traditional legacy rules has the family stay on one lot the whole time. Every generation has the choice to move to a new neighborhood, and all but two have the option of living in the āfamily homeā.Ā
Heirlooms
The Family theme generation has a rule about having an heirloom if you have Life and Death. If you want to, and you have Life and Death, have an heirloom that carries with the main family line from the first generation through to the end.Ā
Family Cemetery
Create a family cemetery that all family members remains go to. You can do this with Base Game with a Generic lot type, or make one using Life and Death
