something something ragn gets a shitton of promotions post-pillar in rapid succession. all great, except that snell starts to look at him differently. it feels almost as if his strings are tugging away from his, and ragn hates it. he resigns.
@deputymeek once again, your tags are amazing âĽ
Bisken dump
I may delete this out of shame idk
go my slop
Ragn's taste seems to lean "people who can break him in half". Good for him. Good for him.

Lots of scribbles about "it'd be funny if duck was another party member" and also "it'd be really fucked up to take him to [SPOILER ZONE] huh"
@meadow-mellow here's the dialogue I was referring to in my tags!
for the unaware, this happens if you investigate the tea shop and you aren't high enough level cast speak with dead yet :)
Being an adult nerd is asking:
"Wait, if EE (and classic D&D? sry idk) didn't have a period of antiquity as such...
How much has the culture offended?"

I will ramble about this once most of my wave of emotions have passed and I can reach better coherency on why this is fuckin me up on an emotional level hgjgkdkjgjsks
Ragn's Flashbacks Part 2:
This is a continuation of my previous post compiling all of Ragn's flashbacks :) This time, we'll cover Charisma and Wisdom with some Bonus Commentary from Ever-Glad, Snell, and Ettir.
more below the cut, as per usual!
+ the commentary post NO ONE ASKED FOR but you're getting anyways
there's a lot to unpack about all the flashbacks but my favourite (for...... perhaps obvious reasons) is Constitution's....
The flashback gets triggered when Ragn is confronted with an inescapable feeling, both physically and emotionally. The physical aspect of this is obvious enough (eating fifteen rotten apple cores is sure to make anyone sick, and the acidity of it is a fairly obvious 1-to-1 connection to the FLESH EATING ACID of the gelatinous cube), but the emotional isolation that Ragn has convinced himself is an inevitability is what really struck me about this memory.
Ragn is surrounded by his peers but each and every one of them were a suffocating presence rather than one of companionship. Their mockery was so bad that it amounted to a physical, insurmountable barrier for Ragn.
And here too, with the gelatinous cube dampening Ragn's senses until all he can think about is the hurt; the sick, sinking feeling in his stomach... he never ran from the feeling though. He always faced it head on because the alternative was being alone but not even his best efforts was enough, in the end.
And so, the appleboy was all alone, until the day...
He...
...meets Snell.
Snell gives you a second chance at escaping the cube, this time with significantly reduced difficulty and allows even the lowest STR Ragns to pass the check. Now, Snell's jeering words are probably familiar to Ragn at this point, and naturally Strength gets his jimmies rustled by the comment but, as Wisdom and Charisma so kindly remind him here:
Snell doesn't want to watch Ragn suffer, not the way those kids did all those years ago. And he actually tries so hard to help that he instinctively steps closer to Ragn despite knowing there's something off..........
Now, Ragn can push out of the cube by himself (and Strength makes sure you know this) if you don't have Snell with you but Snell gives you advantage on the attempt like many, many checks in the game do.
But if you aren't with Snell, you only get one chance to succeed the DC 23 STR check. And if you fail... then Constitution finishes their sentence.
And it just hearkens back to Wisdom's words: "Friendship is not a necessity. Nor is beauty. Nor is love. They do not help you survive this world. Rather, each of those things give value to survival. So the empty hole in your chest does not open up as wide at the end of your next quest. When the silence of your tower office or room at mom's apartment does not engulf you quite so suddenly and hastily."
I just think it's so, so special how, in the flashback that emphasizes just how all encompassing and suffocating Ragn's loneliness felt, Snell directly challenges the notion by interrupting the thought mid sentence and puts his everything into pulling Ragn out of the damn cube.
(+ also interesting to note that in the Ever-Glad conversation, Snell/Ettir are appropriately disturbed even as you get the option to brush it off/downplay it...... and these two aren't immune to pointing out the ridiculousness of Ragn's past like in the Intelligence flashback confession gsdkjfhsfjkd)
tl;dr snagn soulmates. in every sense of the word.
I decided to have a bit of fun and think about what "The Towers" would look like
purely my hypothesis, based on the architecture in Tolstad (the environment is approximate, I've been silly)
THE LAST LINE FROM SNELL HERE IS SO CUTE...
Plot idea: An esoteric event divides Ragn into six clones, but weirdly enough, each clone don't simply carry his personality traits. Rather, each body seems to be inhabited by one of his chimes, which naturallyâcauses a good amount of chaos.
Plot twist, turns out that they're under a time limit to put him back together. While his body was cloned, his soul wasn't. It was actually divided between the bodies in a weird, hivemind type of thing, and a soul is DEFINITELY not meant to do that.
...You can imagine the white hairs Snell got after all this.
[...]
And so, after very VERY difficult conversations, deals, discussion, flirting, persuasion, and apple bribery, Snell collects all six to finally get together in one room (it's in a room, obviously these guys just ran away at the first opportunity)
According to information from Ragn-wizard-nerd, this Esoteric outrage was still a few hours away, so Snell was able to cope earlier. Something haunted him, however, even when the most stubborn Ragn-nationalist-jock joined the company of other Ragns. Something was itching on the back of the brain. Something simple, but lost while chasing six different Freaks who should become the one whole Snell is hunching over. One nerdy, kind, suicidal, sociable freak with kleptomania and a love of apples.
But when nothing happens when the six meet, Snell realizes something is missing.
After all, there must have been someone else besides all these terribly categorical characteristics.
It was never about six clones. It was about six versions and one of Ragn Hemlin. There were fucking seven.
â˘â˘â˘
Plot twist, In fact, the Ragn has broken up into 6 versions of himself and 1 of himself. It is the same constantly uncertain voice that tries to twirl among the others and find the "right" choice, but in fact does not know what is "right." It's Ragn Hemlin, lost everywhere and always.
When it comes to Snell, he experiences real horror, as the remaining few hours that used to seem like a huge supply have now turned into bits of time. And there's definitely no more weird Cleric left in the city. The Visken's Tracking spell revealed all parts of Ragn within Tolstad. But nothing else. Nothing! No melancholy men in helmets, sitting on a tree.
And the only option is that Ragn Hemlin... wasn't wearing a helmet.
When it comes to Snell, he'll try to find out Ragn's appearance from the six. But these six don't remember (or don't want to remember) even their hair color. And no threats, logical arguments, and pleas made none of them take off their helmets. And Snell doesn't have time for that.
Where appearance doesn't help, habits help. And the glory of the Gods has a thing in Ragn Hemlin that will always attract him to him. And thank the gods for it's something as simple and obvious as an apple warehouse. Yeah, Ragn Hemlin was at the Visken's Lair the whole time.
Of course, Snell was furious and asked Visken "What the fuck" but the answer was succinct:
"Ragn said he needed to think about it. Other Ragns are nothing more than pieces of the outer shell, but the core is another matter. And connecting them all is solved not by holding hands". Visken pauses in his own style, but Snell doesn't need this shit for to realize the scale of the problem. "Ragn Hemlin himself should want it".
And unlike the almost grayed-with-stress Snell, who worked so hard to get That Ragn back, the apple-covered Ragn Hemlin-
-didn't want that.
Because getting rid of constant obsessive thoughts is surprisingly enjoyable, and also allows you to think well about your own insolvency and uselessness without a ton of excuses for those obsessive thoughts. And all this to come to the conclusion that it's not so bad to live one day in unusual silence and finally fall asleep without a lifelong sense of unknown duty accompanying him.
Yeah. Plot twist number 2: This whole situation becomes an accidental possibility of esoteric suicide.
Naturally not on Snell's shift.

if you pursue the bad fray in the confrontation with Gorm, there's some hidden dialogue in the game addressing your terrible, terrible decision.
Thank you to @appleboyprayers for bringing this to my attention! Huuuuuuuuuge end-game spoilers below the cut. Oh, and plenty of heartbreak, too.
Tread with caution :)
