pop goes punk [roxas]

In the beginning he is all delight and brevity - a child swaddled into a suit that fits too well to be comfortable, struck by wondrous awe at this strange, rare glimpse of the adult world. All around, everyone dances, both on the floor and in small, tight-knit groups where their words hold a note of laughter that their cold hearts do not.

It's a dream of a faraway planet, himself an alien.

It's fascinating until he realizes everyone around him is speaking in a language he does not understand, and all of the finely tailored, bespoke suits in the world cannot make him fit in. That is when the frustration begins to gnaw at him, little by little, until it plucks him up and swallows him whole.

There is an itch under his skin that no amount of drugged punch soothe; though it does help make the edges a little bit fuzzier and when he wades through the crowd to find Roxas, tucked away and looking for all the world as though he's trying to hide (badly), it is with a smile too crooked and eyes more heavily lidded than they were when they last parted.

"Oh there you are, the belle of the ball." Axel has a strange tie wrapped around his wrist and no explanation as to how it got there. He blinks at it once, twice, as though he's just as surprised to see it himself, before leveling his gaze upon Roxas once more. This time his smirk is just a touch cruel, sharp like all of his edges. "How are you? How is your date? Mine's off with someone else. How funny is that? Well, I'll tell you - it's a real riot."

lose yourself [ eight ]

A ball is hardly what you'd call Axel's scene. In fact, had anyone suggested even earlier today that Axel even owned what could be considered proper attire to be let in the door would have been laughable enough. But here he is, strumming fingers along to the music (lacking in uptempo and possessing of far too few whiny, vocal chord straining verses about the injustice of societal expectations and parents) - not only clad in a suit but, better, one that actually fits.

In fact, it even looks tailored.

But surely that's preposterous.

No amount of proper dress or even the ridiculously opulent lion mask can truly disguise Axel, however, not with his eccentric mane - a perfect compliment to his chosen mask. Nor is he the only one so easily spotted in a sea of otherwise anonymous fish.

When he slides up beside Eight he is a bundle of sharp edges and an even sharper grin. "Eight my man. Nice tie." He sniggers, his tone facetious. May I have this dance?" Axel is in full swing tonight, and the bow he sweeps into, extending one arm with palm facing up and fingers twitching ever so slightly, is nothing short of pretentious.

There is a knock at your door, and when you open the door there is a brightly decorated easter basket at your door. It looks normal, and maybe it is! But as you go to open an easter egg, a ziplock bag of something green falls out, landing on the floor. It is only then you notice a brightly painted ":o)" on the outside of every egg. Happy Easter.

Axel opens the door with a hand down his pants, scratching idly, and his shirt nowhere to be seen - his too visible ribs on full display for all the world to see.

thunder clatter [pyrrha]

Axel shows up the same way he always shows up - long limbs and a crooked grin, the corner of his eye still a fading purpleish-brown, and the last time he ate visible in the stark outline of his ribs beneath stretched too tight skin- too much a mess for this early in the day (even though the sun has already begun it's downward arc across the sky).

He doesn't even wait for her to open the door, just tumbles inside in a mess of stubbed toes caught on the same step they've always caught on and a string of profanities falling from his lips like cigarette ash. "Pyrrha!" He calls, though it's more habit than greeting. It's hardly like she needs the warning anyway - he's made enough racket coming in to wake the whole block.

(Or would, anyway, if they weren't all used to it by now.)

"Ran out of food again," he explains as he passes through the hallway with shuffling feet that drag just enough to make it clear he's doing it on purpose, drawing long scuffs on the floor in his wake. "You're closer than the grocery," he adds, though they both know by now it's far from the truth. 'Ran out of money again', is what he really means.

"Anyway I can never find the right brand of OJ, you know." He smacks his lips, "ah," as he spots the juice in question. Her fridge, like always, is a veritable bounty. "Pretty sure you're actually having the stuff flown in."

Only after he's thoroughly contaminated her juice, pulling the neck of the container from his lips and sprawled out before the open fridge, does he drawl out a real greeting. "Sup cuz." He glances at her outfit, "Not interrupting a hot date, am I?"

42069 blaze it [ axel & eight. ]

For a place in which getting to the couch proved to be a true track-and-field challenge, Eight found Axel’s apartment surprisingly cozy; maybe because it reminded him of his own, save for the noise and general chaos of living with a bunch of other people. Axel wasn’t exactly quiet, but on most days, he found his presence calming enough, considering his attitude differed from the people he was used to.

Sure, he might’ve done some questionable things from time to time — most of them were perfectly ignorable, though, and Eight didn’t have a tendency to judge, be it doing weed or being too drunk to walk straight.

Being offered to smoke with him wasn’t anything new, either, although this was probably the first time he was actually considering agreeing — feeling exasperated and tired enough to entertain the thought a little further.

”Are you sure this is safe? I mean —” he glances down at Axel’s hands, gaze focused on something that ( after a nuclear war ) could possibly resemble a cigarette. “I’ve never done it before? What if I’m allergic —”

Eight, for all that he's stead-fastedly managed to turn down all of Axel's attempts to show him a better time than a case of cheap beer and a broken stereo system can give him, is not actually a terrible guy to chill with. Granted, their means of knowing each other are far from "chill" - exchanging blows and trading bruises in abandoned warehouses and rundown basements for nominal fees in cash and exorbitant rushes of adrenaline that leave them falling against each other with wheezy laughs and wobbly legs when the rush leaves them - but Eight is....well, he's pretty alright.

(Arguably actually a better influence than most of the cohorts Axel keeps.)

And Axel knows that Eight won't accept the weed he offers, offers it anyway because he may be a low life and a loser but he's polite when it comes to both. He's already pulling his hand away, prepared for the automatic refusal, but when it doesn't come he stops, hand out and eyes blinking slowly.

He snorts. "You can't be allergic to weed. It's a plant...like....nature. You can't be allergic to nature. Everyone knows that." Not strictly factual, but was anything that came out of Axel's mouth possessing of more than a sliver of truth? (And that was on the good days.)

"Besides, you won't know unless you try it, right? So don't think about this as getting high - think about it as an experiment. For science. Better you find out here, with a responsible adult and all," debatable, "than when you're surrounded by a bunch of strangers at some frat party you probably went to for the free booze."

As far as Axel was concerned, he was doing Eight a service.

He was a goddamn good Samaritan, that's what.

He holds the blunt a little closer to Eight, too-sharp features winding into a grin just this shade of wily.

It happened a few days ago and even though the other party probably moved on and forgot all about it (or so he assumed) — Aoba couldn’t. He didn’t want to keep pestering that certain somebody to delete a certain something from his phone, the direct approach was lost on his friend. Unknowing of where to turn to then, Aoba sat himself in the library, in front of a computer and sought out a chat room.

He was too embarrassed to not try to hide his identity in one way or another.
