His lavender hues flickered lightly as the woman took a moment in contemplation, knowing she was probably gazing back at her past, and he said nothing to interrupt her. When she finally spoke, his head nodded lightly in agreement. The needed to be armed at every waking moment was gone, though the denizens of Pulse and Cocoon were having a hard time forgetting such a thing. People were still jumpy at the creatures they had yet to understand. But they were not harmful towards them. In fact, if the people left the animals alone, most of the animals left the people alone. And then there was the phenomena of pets, carried over from Cocoon. Some people kept strange ones, but the traditional Dog and Cat were still around, abet no longer exotic in structure or breed. ”Perhaps it is a good change." The guardian had mused after she spoke. Of course it was, but after becoming so used to the warfare that being around monsters brought, some people found it hard to consider. Caius had seen man people fall to the monsters when he had remained in Paddra with the Seeress. In fact, he himself had almost fallen to a monster, though he had transformed himself into the mighty Chaos Bahamut to defeat the creature, and save Paddra, and the seeress. The incident that had started his cursed life. The thought brought a heavy sigh to his lips, a hand pressing to his chest, where his own heart beat, instead of that of the Goddess.

The former savior gave a quiet chuckle, nodding her head once in agreement. "You might just be right about that." Not long after arriving, she'd noticed that this place seemed to combine both extremes of the last two worlds Lightning had called home. People weren't coddled and handed everything on a silver platter, as they once had been on Cocoon-- but there was no need to struggle and fight just to survive on a harsh world like Gran Pulse. For the first time, it truly felt like humanity had a home made just for them.

"Something on your mind?" the soldier inquired, though she wasn't entirely sure it was her place to ask. It was easy to tell her companion was a bit lost in thought, as she'd been a moment ago-- but whatever memory he'd brought up seemed to be far less pleasant than hers. Not that there was even the slightest intent to pry. She was sure Caius knew he had the option not to answer if he really didn't want to.

It would seem that on some level, the two were on the same thought pattern. There was no need to engage in combat if the other didn’t give adequate reason too. With this in mind, the male had no desire to begin the fight, having had enough of their seemingly eternal battles in Valhalla

As she spoke of the new world, he nodded. This place was rather interesting. It was quite compared to the monster-filled world of Gran-Pulse, and whatever kind of life those on Cocoon had, but surely it was for the better. “It does seem like it was worth the trouble.” He commented softly, his gaze shifting over the expanse before him. “It is much more peaceful here than it ever was on Gran Pulse.”

That was a hard point to disagree with. Gran Pulse was beautiful-- certainly not the hell Lightning had grown up believing it was --but the whole planet had basically been one big deathtrap. And while there certainly were some fearsome creatures roaming this new world, Behemoth attacks and Gorgonopsid ambushes were on a whole other level. Maybe she was just being nostalgic, but for a brief moment, Lightning almost missed it. Although docile wildlife did mean way fewer civilian casualties-- even if life was a lot less exciting now.

"Yeah. Now you don't have to have a weapon ready just to walk out your front door. That's gonna take some getting used to." It seemed like every time something rustled in a bush, or something knocked over a trash can, Lightning was already trying to reach for a weapon that wasn't there anymore. It's what she's always been trained to do; once a soldier, always a soldier.
