"I want to live simply. I want to sit by the window when it rains and read books I'll never be tested on. I want to paint because I want to, not because I've got something to prove. I want to listen to my body, fall asleep when the moon is high and wake up slowly, with no place to rush off to. I want not to be governed by money or clocks or any of the artificial restraints that humanity imposes on itself. I just want to be, boundless and infinite."

I know it is my father's first time on this Earth, too. And I know He had it worse when he was little.
But I was little too.

βI'm a master at speaking silently, all my life I've spoken silently and I've lived through entire tragedies in silence.β
Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Meek One.
You're a you
that never
arrives
and I'm a me
that can wait
forever
Musing
I think - it is enough.
And then I think - no, I want to sense everything
of you
the look of you the touch of you the taste of you
but without messing with your life
just
here. To hold
and not to have.
Somewhere this love is a meadow, undiscovered, decked with bluebells, humming with creatures in flight
under benevolent sunlight
and it can just be.
Alice Te Punga Somerville, Always Italicise: How to Write While Colonised - Kupu rere kΔ
[ID: A poem titled: Kupu rere kΔ. [in italics] My friend was advised to italicise all the foreign words in her poems. This advice came from a well-meaning woman with NZ poetry on her business card and an English accent in her mouth. I have been thinking about this advice. The convention of italicising words from other languages clarifies that some words are imported: it ensures readers can tell the difference between a foreign language and the language of home. I have been thinking about this advice. Marking the foreign words is also a kindness: every potential reader is reassured that although youβre expected to understand the rest of the text, itβs fine to consult a dictionary or native speaker for help with the italics. I have been thinking about this advice. Because I am a contrary person, at first I was outraged β but after a while I could see she had a point: when the foreign words are camouflaged in plain type you can forget how they came to be there, out of place, in the first place. I have been thinking about this advice and I have decided to follow it. Now all of my readers will be able to remember which words truly belong in -[end italics]- Aotearoa -[italics]- and which do not.

Back to feeling incapable
Back to feeling like a failure
Imposter syndrome raging
I'm a kid in grown-up clothes
I blame my learning disabilities
I blame Mercury in retrograde
I blame my parent's need for perfection
Which became my own campaign
But under all of it, I fear
That maybe I'm just bad at life
Maybe I'm stupid after all
Or maybe I'm really worthless

Magic in your fingertips
In the reverberations of atoms
Between us
Everything feels alive
Breathing for the first time
Fire running through me
Neurons awake to every signal
Awake to the electricity
In every "accidental" touch
βIf a poem hasnβt ripped apart your soul; you havenβt experienced poetry.β

Earthmoved; A New World Manifesto,
This is called part two
By I⦠but, really,
after all,
I do not know quite who?

Now count it, One.
Meet yourself Inside of all,
Then set; just like the sun.

Tattoo deeply:
this, the truth;
To cut down the bone;
Deathconsciousness defined:
Part 1 of a new world manifesto-
Kill god and save the world
The start-
Become god,
See the truth,
Change the future.
Alanis Morissette

Untitled poem idea (draft #1)
Crimson blood drips onto a white canvas
Art is born
For art is the blood we bleed
Bit by bit, drip by drip
Until the well has run dry
Until we have given all that we have
Until we are begging for a breath of air, suffocating slowly at the hands of a society forged by hatred and prejudice and loathing until we have been well and truly been crucified, brandished as a warning for those who dare to dream
Is this what it means to leave our mark on the world?
