“Sorry–sorry,” they spoke quickly, lifting their hand in hopes of rescinding what they’d said. “Just seems like there’s been a lot of that down here recently. I wasn’t judging you, specifically - judging the city, more like.”

“No, I’m sorry,” Kyle said, his face softening. “I hope you accept my apology, I. Shouldn’t have lashed out that way.” 

His grip on his sanity felt like it was weakening with each passing day. He should have been thankful somebody cared, but all he felt was a smothering sense of dread. Something miserable was coming around the corner. (Er...something more miserable, anyway.)
