- During my writing process, I often make an outline of what I need/want to include in my writing. This strategy would be useful in other classes when I am constructing a project. For the project, I can make an outline or a list of topics I want to include and put them in the order I want them to be presented.

- Throughout this semester, I have improved with making my writing connect with its audience. Specifically, I have improved by learning how to use rhetorical devices such as logos, pathos and ethos.

In my counter-argument, I used pathos to create an emotional connection to the reader. This argument target’s students who are currently struggling to pay their college tuition.

Evaluating a source is a crucial part of the research process. When researching, you will find millions of sources, but it is important to make sure they are credible. I would say that the most important thing I learned from HTWA’s chapter, “Evaluating Sources”, is that researching the author’s background will help you determine if the source is credible. When researching about the author of the source, you will be able to determine their credentials, professional affiliations, etc.. With this information you will find out if their background is strong enough for them to write a credible source. From now on, this knowledge will help me determine if the author of the source is credible and I will start by looking at the author’s name when I first click on the source.

I found this infographic on easel.ly and the intended audience are people who don’t know how to detect fake news. The purpose of this image is to educate the reader on the consequences of trusting fake news as a credible source. This infographic uses rhetorical appeals such as ethos when talking about what ACC Professors require. This also uses pathos when stating, “trusting these false stories could lead you to make decisions that may be harmful to your health”. The author uses repitition to make their argument by continuously stating that fake news is harmful. The author also uses proximity when grouping his explanations into three separate categories; many believe fake news articles, fake news can affect your grades and fake news can be harmful to your health. Personally, this image enhances my knowledge on the many ways fake news can be harmful to individuals.

After reading the essay from The Guardian, “How to write the perfect sentence”, there was one point of advice that really stuck out to me. This advice was, “a sentence, as it proceeds, is a pairing way of options. Each added word, because of the English language’s dependence on word order, reduces the writer’s expectations”. When writing a sentence, there is an unlimited number of options. Since there is a limited word order in the English language, one word may help in writing the complete sentence. This piece of advice really opened my eyes to how one word can really impact a sentence.

Along with the helpful suggestions I have received while being peer reviewed, there were a few negative suggestions. One example of a not so helpful suggestion I received was to be more detailed. This suggestion would have been more helpful if the person clearly stated where I needed to provide more details. Another example of a suggestion I received that was not so helpful was to fix my citations. If this suggestion would have explained how I could improve my citations or how to correctly write them it would have been a lot more helpful.
