This relates to English in that a lot of people do not read their essays over to double check for mistakes, including myself sometimes and I thought it was funny.

I think that the most important way the writing process can translate to work outside of the classroom is it demonstrates how taking your time and doing things properly yields better outcomes. With the writing process if you take your time for each step and put in the necessary work you will have a much better essay. Outside the classroom, whether it’s a job, sport or something else, the same results are shown that when you put the effort and time into something there will be a better outcome and you will improve your skills much more.

I think that the infographic assignment was most challenging for me out of all of the assignments this semester. I struggled with the layout, design, and how to format my writing. I had never done something like an infographic before so probably a big part of the reason it was challenging was it was new to me. I think that my writing analysis has improved a lot this semester. I feel like I can now better retrieve the best material from sources and really figure out what the author is going for, which also contributes to how I think about my own writing.

In the article, “To Save The Climate, Look To The Oceans,” the author does not use ethos enough. By using ethos more she can develop her ideas more and make her information and article more credible. I will be using this as my counter argument in my infographic. Ironically she also didn’t involve a counter argument in her article, being that incorporating some of her ideas and solutions may affect the environment even more depending on locations as they can get in the way of migratory patterns. I also am considering including that.

In the chapters several reasons why evaluating sources is important are explained. The most important thing I learned was making sure the source is credible and that you aren’t reading false or skewed information. Other important things I learned were that by reading the introduction you can get a grasp what the source covers and what the author hopes to accomplish or put across to their audience. I also learned to check to see if a source is outdated because if it is the information and evidence may have changed. I will now give articles a once over to check their credibility and see what information is being described before I read the article completely. Reading the chapters made me acknowledge that not all sources on the web are credible and it is important to thoroughly investigate before using an article for research.Â

https://www.eesi.org/articles/view/oceans-can-help-tackle-climate-change
-This article backs up the information talked about in the first article that I researched. However it is slightly different in that some of the examples it list are different. Some of these examples of how the ocean can help stop climate change include ocean based transportation and marine ecosystem restoration. the target audience is anyone, who is willing to learn about the different ways that climate change can be slowed and stopped. The article was written by Savannah Bertrand & George Davidson.

The purpose of this image is to display the damage caused by the wildfires in California. The intended audience is for people looking to show support or gain knowledge on the fires sweeping through California. The image uses mostly pathos as it displays a woman standing in what looks to be the remnants of her home, which appeals to the viewers emotional side making them feel bad for this woman.
The picture shows contrast as it has the trees that are alive in the background and then what looks to be fallen trees on the ground throughout the rest of the image. The photograph demonstrates alignment as the woman is strategically in the forefront of the picture and all of the damage lies behind her. It also includes proximity as it has a large open space surrounding the woman and trees very far in the background. However, it doesn't really involve repetition other than the colors being dark and lifeless.
This reflects my understanding of the my subject as the photograph shows the damage done by the fires that have become more common and larger in size due to climate change, which is one of the largest environmental issues that our planet faces today.

What stood out to me in the article was “A sentence is much more than its literal meaning. It is a living line of words where logic and lyric meet – a piece of both sense and sound, albeit the sound is only heard in the reader’s head.” This stood out to me because it describes how sentences aren’t necessarily just words on a page but instead have deeper meanings. It points out that writing a sentence is like a form of art. From this quote I learned that sentences can be much more powerful than we think they are.

- In the past peer reviews have been very helpful in improving my writing. I enjoy having other sets of eyes read my work before I pass it in and getting constructive criticism from my peers.
- I honestly think that all suggestions are helpful even if you don’t end up incorporating them in the end. Suggestions make you think differently about your writing and can give you ideas directly or even spawn other ideas to involve in your writing.
Journal 5 - Thesis Statement
In the article “To Save the Climate, Look to the Oceans” the author, Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, persuasively calls for change in how the world is dealing with climate change through the use of of several rhetorical appeals, including logos, ethos, and pathos.

Something that surprised me from this article was the “inverted pyramid” model. The idea of putting the most important information at the top of the site is very smart because it gives the reader exactly what they are looking for immediately. I can incorporate some of these techniques into my own writing by using them as guidelines to how to get my audience to want to keep reading what I have wrote. I think these techniques are important because they draw the reader in and keep them engaged.

Looking back at the first project I think everything went fairly smooth. I drew up an outline before starting the actual letter. In the outline I included my major points and provided examples for what I was going to talk about. After completing the letter I went back read through it twice before submitting it to make sure all my grammar was correct and it sounded good. What was most useful to me was having a plan for what I was going to write about before I started the actual letter. One thing I would like to do differently in the next project is have someone else read and revise my writing to get another set of eyes on it.

In the past I have had several teachers, who have affect how I write. In my junior year my English teacher really influenced my writing. We did a lot of creative writing assignments, which was challenging for me. Things like making up short stories and writing poems. However by forcing me to think outside the box and giving me the freedom of writing about whatever I wanted to write about, my teacher helped me grow as a writer. She was also available a lot for extra help, where I could go over what I was writing with her and learn how I could improve.

So far I have had a pretty good experience with writing.Throughout high school I tended to have solid grades in my writing based classes. However I am usually better at analyzing something in writing rather than making something up myself, which is something that I would like to get better at. A lot of my English teachers in high school were great and gave me a good experience, which is a large part of the reason I enjoy writing. I am very excited to become a better writer and learn more about writing in this class
