nah dude John didn’t talk to Mary about either Sherlock or Sholto. This is Mary’s way of gaslighting Sherlock when they both can see what we are seeing play out between John and Sholto–”he talks to me all the time about him“–in other words, John doesn’t confide in you and he doesn’t talk about you either, because he doesn’t trust you or care about you.

John is a stoic sort of person. He never tells Mary he loves her on screen. He’s never physically affectionate with any of his girlfriends on screen. I sincerely believe that after the injuries that separated him and Sholto, and after the fall that separated him and Sherlock, he would just put those things in some deep dark place within himself and just flat out refuse to discuss them, which is why there’s never any scene between John and Sherlock discussing the why’s of the fall and the details of the two years away. It’s done and John doesn’t want to talk about it.

Remember E? The woman on the bus that "Eurus" pretended to be and had a text affair with John? How did she give John her number? Written on a piece of paper. And what was her number?

I always wondered if there was a signiificance to this phone number. I looked for meta on this but never found a one with proper proofs, forgive me if I overlooked any and please let me know if so. As is with this ridiculous show that even after re-watching it for the 143rd time, I still get baffled at things I didn't notice before!

I can tell from the angle she wrote at that she was sat across from you on the other side of the aisle. Later – after she got off, I imagine – you used the napkin to mop up your spilled coffee, accidentally smudging the numbers. You’ve been over the last four digits yourself with another pen, so you wanted to keep the number. Just now, though, you used the napkin to blow your nose. Maybe you’re not that into her after all.

E was sitting across from John on the other side of the aisle on the bus. And it seemed she already had the number written down the way she is looking at the piece of paper, she probably just wrote Exx at the bus stop scene. John contemplated throwing her number in the bin but then decided to keep it after all.

What does this tell me? A clear indication that S4 is an amalgamation of what THoB is essentially all about - re-written memories due to childhood trauma, drug induced hallucinations, doing therapy (Sherlock's recurring dream), on the verge of suicide, not knowing what's real and what's not, betrayed by someone close - we know what Henry Knight saw was never real, the HOUND was never real. We also know Henry Knight is a Sherlock mirror.

If you notice the phone number screen grab from THoB, the 3rd last and 2nd last number seem to "1 and 5" that is rewritten by Henry, the last number is not visible to us. The last three numbers on E's number is "552".

I left Tumblr in 2017, when Sherlock fandom was full of pain and broken dreams, and came back just a month ago.

Here’s what I’ve noticed in 2023:

Johnlock isn’t wild anymore. It became more mature(?).

There are still a lot of new artworks, gifs, and fanfiction. Btw, highly recommend @meetinginsamarra to look for your ideal Johnlock fanfic.

The fandom wounds got in 2017 haven’t healed yet. I’d say some fans are still mad while others are sad. That’s why most of creative stuff is focused on Series 1-3 + TAB. Series 4 is often ignored.

There are two broad opinions towards Johnlock: 1) S4 shows real events, relationships between Sherlock and John are deteriorated, and the ending is a clear queerbating; 2) S4 doesn’t show real events (an unreliable storyteller), we don’t know the real state of Sherlock and John relationships, and the ending looks suspicious.

I will definitely check @meetinginsamarra out and search out other active users - my feed is dead.

I understand people are still hurt. As ridiculous as it sounds, my own wounds after s4 have been so sore I had to step away almost immediately after the last episode ended. Be part of history LOL. Lord...

... but saying that, I've now read the extended mind palace metas (mostly from @loudest-subtext-in-tv) with less hurt emotions and I can see the fuckery of s4 and I am willing to give watching it a go again with that view. I actually just finished watching s1e1 for the first time in years and honestly I still get the same emotions I used to have. Johnlock is truly a love through the ages for me. But if that EMP train of thought is correct then they've left it far too long. S5 should have been announced directly after and aired close to s4 before perhaps losing momentum/memory with the more casual watchers and to perhaps calm the hurt/baited watchers. Such an odd note to leave it on, to never expose that the entire seasons was EMP? Ahhh I'm going to twist myself in circles.
