Please pray for the young men who have lost their sons, their brothers, their friends, and their fathers to suicide;
Pray for those men who are in addiction, in poverty, in hospice, who go through bullying and isolation and domestic abuse, who have been raped and are sexually abused, who are self-harming and contemplating suicide. Who are struggling in their homes, marriages, families; with their health, and their safety. Please pray for all the young men who have lost their lives due to PTSD and insufficient support and trauma and accidents. Please pray for the surviving families, and their male members, whose sons, fathers, and brothers were targeted and taken away from them too soon because of crime and violence and injustice.
Please pray for our young boys and men, for we need them as much as they need us.
Prayers for my coworker. They cant find his baby's heartbeat. He and his wife are headed to the hospital.

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government

backrooms was such a let down for me. after the first act, i feel like the story kinda fell apart. it became this psychological thing for the main character and it kind of ruined things, like he wanted to stay there because he finally felt in control, and the therapist is like okay stay then, and don’t change…it seemed like she gave up trying to help him. but it felt unnatural that he just became crazy at the drop of a hat without any kind of build up while he explores the backrooms. we go from him getting lost there after losing his employees, to a voicemail to mary saying he’s never coming back, to him choking out mary and having his psycho moment. the character shift was very jarring and didn’t progress naturally, making it feel kind of unserious and forced.
between the mc’s joker monologue w/mary and the “one of the good ones” scientists talking to her at the end, they tried to explain the logistics of the backrooms but it fell flat for me. and they didn’t explain some important info—the ending was also just left off without explanation. we don’t know what happened to mary. if you’re going to rush explanations of what’s going on, it feels very unfinished when things are then left open-ended. it felt like the movie over explained itself, then just decided to give the audience little to no explanation at the end.
i enjoyed the first act, where it was just this weird place in the walls meant to be explored with something unknown lurking in it. after they deviated from that, it just felt like a different movie to me. the mystery and anomalous nature of the backrooms is the appeal of the backrooms, aside from its aesthetic. if you want to explain it but still keep the appeal, give some important info without giving too much and allow the rest to be a mystery or supernatural.
no doubt, the set design was amazing. production did an amazing job of really taking the pictures we’ve seen online and made stories for into a reality with its set. it’s a shame that the writing wasn’t as high-quality as the set.
