u can call ur skull-head deer oc literally anything else u don't even have to change the design
PLEASE. THIS IS A ONE INCH HIGH BARRIER: JUST DON'T USE A WORD. IT'S NOT HARD.
It's a frightening lack of respect for a group to go "hey this is our culture/religion/mythology? Please don't use that word" and apparently all the white people are like "but what if I did anyway to make my unity horror game 0.01% scarier?"
Just use a different word! Call it a deerman, deer god, forest spirit, whatever. Try to care at least a little when someone says not to use their culture for entertainment.
Here's a list of deer in mythology. If you have to have a mythology-based creature, you can go find one of these that's not THE ONE YOU'VE BEEN SPECIFICALLY ASKED NOT TO USE.
Alternative words/terms/names to call the creature the internet made up: -The hungry ones -The stalker -Forest spirits -The antlered beasts -Blood starved beast ((thank you bloodborne)) -Famine incarnate -They who come at night -Geoff -Anything else you can come up with Literally use the creativity you used to design your creature and give them a name that hasn't been stolen from a culture you don't understand.
i'd like to add that the original creature isn't even deer based, and has nothing to do with deer, the creature that has a deer skull you see in art and movies is like...arguably a different thing
For folks who don’t knows what word is being talked about: W*nd*go. In addition to the above, I wanted to clarify to anybody who is confused (my understanding) of why it’s censored in the original post and why I’m choosing to censor it when interacting with above posts: I have been told that you’re not supposed to use the real name so as not to attract its attention (like the true name of the bear being lost because so many cultures called it taboo, or inverse to why many Jewish folks censor G*d/god in their writing)
While I’m not a believer in anything supernatural, it’s a pretty low bar to clear to just… not use a sincerely held cultural belief outside of its context and stripped of anything but questionable aesthetic, particularly when you yourself are not of that culture (see: yes it actually is different from all the Christian mythological “reinterpretations”)
I'm native american and my tribe is a subdivision of the Algonquin who first told the story of the Wendigo and you are all spreading a lot of misinformation that is very frustrating to me, it feels like an uphill battle to keep explaining this, please read.
This is like the third or fourth time I've reblogged this but I'm doing it on my other account because I don't wanna keep spamming my poor followers with the same post.
If you are not indigenous you have NO RIGHT to tell people how we feel about our stories and myths. You do not KNOW what our sincerely held cultural beliefs are. And as a matter of fact, you are painting us all as the 'noble savage' trope by assuming that we are all so cripplingly superstitious and we so deeply believe in our monsters that saying the name of one is offensive to us.
The Wendigo is a myth. It is a story. It is a legend. You can say the word Wendigo. Stop going after random strangers you don't know for saying a word you don't even understand. Stop it. Please. It has never been a forbidden word. It isn't even part of the legend that 'saying its name will summon it', you summon the Wendigo by engaging in cannibalism.
The legend itself has an important message about greed and destruction, about selfishness in the face of death and survival. It has been used to describe many variations of greed and selfishness, both in the form of other natives and from invaders. But we don't all believe in a literal evil spirit/monster that will come get us if YOU say the word Wendigo, that's infantilizing.
The language of my tribe is nearly extinct. Our stories have been suppressed for centuries by racist non-Natives. We don't care if non-Natives tell our stories as long as they get the story RIGHT by at least taking it from an original source, because it keeps them alive.
By the way the Wendigo is totally unrelated to deer and does not have antlers, that shit is just made up by non-natives, which also pisses me off to no end. Wendigo is a spirit that possess a human, so it looks like a human, it could be anyone you know, that is part of the message and moral of the story.
(btw I won't be responding to anything on this account, I've said what I needed to say)
THANK YOU
Look I know people mean well, I DO. I'm not saying these things to make anyone feel bad or to be angry, but if you DO want to help elevate Native voices, please understand the difference between uplifting our voices and speaking OVER US. If you want to uplift our voices then find things written by actual natives and reblog it, and ask actual natives and reblog that, interviews, native american websites and books written by natives, etc. And also don't ask one tribe to speak for another because we are not all the same. But by taking one thing you heard somewhere and spreading that around from your own mouth, you're speaking OVER us.
Even if one native told you not to say it, that's one native. I promise the majority of us are NOT overly supersitious. If one native you spoke to is so superstitious that it freaks them out if you say the word Wendigo, then don't say it around them. If you want to protect the virgin ears of everyone with a closely held belief then don't say the name of ANY mythological beast, don't say 'God', 'Jesus', or 'Satan'. (If you think only white/European/colonists believe that saying 'Satan' will summon him, I would like to point to a swath of very traditional Christian native Americans including my own grandfather)
I saw one person say like 'respect the culture and the people who are SCARED of that shit' in the tags and like, once again, that is SO infantalizing. I know you don't mean it to be, but you really think all natives are so SCARED of a story that we get genuinely distressed by you TYPING it on the internet??? And you don't see how stereotypical that is?
Again, I'm not saying this to make anyone feel bad for trying to help, but if you want to help then you will understand this.
To people reblogging posts written by actual natives (not just mine, anyone), thank you for setting an example, it's the only thing tempering my frustration, to see some people out there spread my words without speaking for me, and learning from it. <3
(okay I lied about not responding to anything, this one just hits right)
Important correction!
(sorry for spreading misinfo before)
I have kind of a niche political view on tumblr, which is that I think misogyny is bad even when it’s just hurting women
and I don’t even think it needs to have a singular benefit for men for feminism and the abolition of patriarchy to be worthwhile
in fact the abolition of patriarchy could be a net loss for men and I would still think that feminism and the abolition of patriarchy was worth it
this is not at all me dunking on or criticizing the user who added these tags, but me using them as a jumping off point to reiterate something
Toxic masculinity is not borne out of feminist analysis. Rather, it comes out of one of the earlier men’s rights movements, the mythopoetic men’s movement. I don’t even think it’s particularly useful as feminist analysis because masculinity itself is a misogynist concept. There is no trait associated with masculinity that women who are not masculine at all cannot possess.
"masculine role models" lol
"masculine role models" were a scam invented by men (who themselves are also a scam invented by men, it's complicated) to cement the patriarchal family as the only possible way to raise a child and justify keeping "fathers" around. It doesn't necessarily have to be a nuclear family, but kids *obviously* need some masculine influence to teach them it's not ok to be a woman. Otherwise they'd grow up soy.
Masculinity is a social pact that reproduces itself via violent enforcement and reinforcement between men and you should not be giving them any more victim-members or treating it as the natural way of the world.
Anyone who tries to convince you of some genuine psychological need for "masculine role models" in a kids life is a wacko gender shill trying to justify the patriarchy all the unimaginable horrors that come with it, and you should probably kick them in the shins.
> "Negative impact of lacking male role models/a father in childhood development"
> look inside
> 99% just the negative impacts of childhood poverty from being raised by a single mother

they only know how to steal from trans women lmao
i think the thing that really stuck with me about this is the way that it frames trans women as cops for having specific words with specific definitions that have arisen out of material analysis rather than what something "feels like." just pure vibes-based reactionary nonsense from the tmras, as per usual. neologisms are a tool of last resort for serious political theorists!
warping back to firelink after spending two hours trying to beat Dancer of The Boreal Valley and when you turn around from the bonfire the Firekeeper is sitting on the steps with her skirt pulled up and is just absolutely going wild on her hog jacking off louder and sloppier than anyone has ever jacked off in history and she doesn't stop as you go about your chores in the shrine because she's blind and doesn't notice you enter and it's obvious from the mess and the way Karla and the shrine handmaiden react that she's been at this the whole time you've been gone

Hey so I have a question... I'm 14 and followed an artist for NSFW of some characters I liked (they have a private account and don't know my age, they're apparently in their early 20s and while they have yet accepted my request still.) They don't know my age but I was thinking about it and thought "Is this really ok?" Because this may get them in trouble but at the same time literally NOBODY knows but like... it's been eating away at me and I'm nervous.
You're doing an asshole thing, sorry. You may not be a jerk! But the thing you're doing is what a jerk would do. You're breaking their trust, being entitled to things you are not of age to consume, going behind your parents backs, and lying to people by omission. Those are some pretty harsh things to get saddled with for a few drawn lines that look like a boob.
You're actively making the internet a less safe place, and fueling the kind of thing that political movements are using to ban all signs of sexuality (and in turn LGBTQAI+ folk) from the internet, by invading adult-only spaces against the consent, and will, of those adults. You're taking away their safety. You're now the kid that "got access to pornography" too easily that they use as a strawman to harm others. It's 4 years until it's legal, sit on your hands and follow the artist when you're older. Their art will still be around then, and you won't be deliberately making the choice to ignore their boundaries because you wanted something real bad. If you want kids to be safe, you have to in turn allow adults to be safe too. This is true for roleplay spaces too!
You're at an age where you're really malleable to certain things whether you realize it or not, and porn can really effect how you see certain things in life, or set you up for misunderstandings about how things are going to work. You're at an age where you're probably going to ask questions, but stick to sexual health websites that give accurate information instead of giving yourself some wild ass fetishes. You can end up completely changing how you interact with the world by doing this. I know it's fun and interesting, I know it's something illicit which can be a thrill, but like... respect people. Respect others. Respect yourself.
You can wait just a little while and this won't even be an issue anymore. You have the rest of your life to enjoy this stuff without breaking people's trust. And then? Then we'll accept you happily into adulthood and you can look at all the wacky drawn peens, vageens, and weirdo things you want. I know I sound like a stuffed shirt who wants to ban all fun, but it's becoming obvious that the more kids invade adult spaces, the less adult spaces we have. Imagine, a kid who gets online at 13 has 5 whole years where they need their training wheels and shouldn't push one little button/boundary. Then they have 60+ more years where they can do whatever they want. That seems fair!
But when you break that trust repeatedly, and people yell "what about the children" and people have to lock everything away tighter and tighter and become more and more illicit and illegal and "wrong" because those 5 years are 'too long to wait'? Those decades of freedom aren't very free, they're constantly haunted by new kids doing the same thing you did, and making it harder and hard to be an adult online. So please, do rethink the follow. Lying sucks for everyone. Set a reminder for your 18th birthday and go re-follow them then.
Since I've been researching for my current project, I've been going through lots of roleplay resources and online commentary about it, which is how I came across this old post - the reply to this ask horrifies me, because it treats the child as if their behaviour is predatory instead of focusing on the potential harm to that child.
A good response to this would have been solely to explain why explicit content can be damaging to kids, and to discourage the teenager from accessing it on that basis. Instead of that, the child is framed as the aggressor here and blamed for the policies that may be put into place under the excuse of protecting them.
Adults are responsible for clearly marking our NSFW content, and no-one's getting into serious legal trouble over a kid finding a way to view it. Adults get into trouble for directly sexually interacting with kids (though they get away with it far too often), and they damn well should be in trouble if they're not doing their due diligence about verifying someone's age before essentially sexting with them. Kids who enter adult spaces are not at fault for abuse that might happen to them there - this is victim-blaming that is couched in soft language, and we should see it for what it is!
This is 100% true. but also. given one of the other posts on this blog sums up "roleplaying sex with minors" being bad because "porn is bad for minors" (weird anti-sex rhetoric) and NOT that being a child and putting yourself in a (private, undocumented) situation with adults on the internet is EXACTLY how children are groomed and harmed, which makes this post in tandem so incredibly gross. The harm is not that "porn bad and mucks up your brain" but the tangible reality that being underage and having (especially with poor sex education) an inadequate understanding of consent, of boundaries, and the fact that at a baseline it is very easy to put yourself in a harmful situation with strangers on the internet you aren't fully prepared to deal with. and further, a child who is at the behest of their parents and legal guardians is more likely to seek external outlets for acceptance and pleasure and that is exactly how it is easy to find yourself in horrible situations with people who don't exactly care how it effects you, while believing you are internet savvy and you couldn't possibly get taken advantage of. Horrible exercise in victim blaming.
