Their mother died when they were teens; Donna became a lot like her father while Deb took over the role of the mother in the house.
She looked up to her sister a lot. Deb was fearless and looked out for Donna when she was a kid. Their relationship was all bickering and digs at each other but always full of love and respect.
Donna learned swearing from her sister at an early age. Deb had an even worse foul mouth than she.
Used to go hunting and camping with her dad a lot. It was quality time for them and she learned everything she knows from him and Deb.
Her mother insisted on both of them learning how to sew, and Donna is actually quite good at it but she hates it. She’s more for the rough stuff, big machines, tractors, lawn mowers (iykyk), not fine motor skills.
Her father died just after she met her wife Pat and left Donna his farm since Deb had already moved out and had property of her own with her husband
they both got their stubbornness from their mother, who was a sort of matriarchal figure, decisive and strict, but also very loving. She used to chase away any bad dreams in a heartbeat and, like Donna with Fatima, she had made them dream catchers.
Her wife
Had a wife named Pat(ricia) who she had been married to for decades but who died 2 years before she arrived in Fromville.
Liz mentioned that she thinks that Fromville is a place of “stuckness” and that everyone there is stuck in some kind of way. And so for me, Donna has been stuck in the grief for her wife for a long time and couldn’t move on.
I made like 20 bullet points just about her wife and marriage but I'll spare you that here and put it in a fic instead, it's touched on in Wildflower a little too :)
Donna was obsessed with her wife. Real softie for her, all heart eyes.
The diner is in Fromville because of Donna and what it means to her. (more on that in the fics)
the bracelet donna wears is the equivalent of a wedding ring for her and her wife. she couldn’t wear rings because her fingers tend to swell when she’s working so Pat gave her the silver bracelet.
Personal stuff
Wears men’s clothes because they’re more practical and have pockets
She was a full-time farmer before she came to Fromville. Lived off of the earnings of produce and livestock and was mostly self sufficient.
as per Liz: she's anti establishment
According to Liz, Donna listens to 70s music, ACDC, the eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival. I'd add a bit of Springsteen, Guns N Roses & Scorpions to the list depending on mood
fav drinks: gin, beer, whiskey
For all that she’s a hard ass from the outside, she’s sooo clumsy when it comes to people she cares about, sometimes insecure. She wants to get it right so much but doesn’t quite know how to translate her care into actions.
her love language is protecting
doesn't give much of a fuck about gender (roles)--she'll be husband, wife, partner, boyfriend, girlfriend... whatever. it's all the same to her as long as she's yours
she gets too busy sometimes and forgets to prioritise personal matters
you got a problem? donna is the one you call day or night. she'll be there and help with anything she can
She’s good with kids, looked after her sister’s children a lot and was their fav gay auntie who they get up to lots of mischief with
showers will have to do most days because there’s always things to do around the farm but every once in a while she does enjoy a nice long soak in the bathtub
she can play a little guitar, camp-fire style. but if you ask her she’ll deny it or say she’s bad at it.
Romance
she's always been attracted to women only and knew that early on
In her 20s she was picking up lots of girls at the local dive bar, just craving physical contact, something to hold and fill the silence with.
mostly one-night stands until she met her wife.
she's not one to let her guards down easily or show vulnerability. it takes time and patience with her but she's fiercely loyal once you've cracked her
In Fromville she’d keep a relationship secret at first to not put her partner in danger or draw unwanted attention e. g. being accused of playing favourites
But everyone would know that one was special and know not to touch her partner or feel Donna’s wrath
Something is wrong with gf? Get Donna. Donna is freaking out? Get gf
she needs someone who is her rock like she is for everyone else, someone grounding
can't say no to her partner
She’d be very subtle in the way she shows her affection
gf is the only one she listens to and who can get through to her when she's being stubborn
gf gets a special smile
gf gets anything they ask for, if they want a snack even though they’re on rations--Donna will make it happen
Neck kisses/nuzzling drive her crazy, she loves receiving them, makes her all fuzzy inside and giggling. For that reason, she hates when her gf does it in front of others and it will have repercussions.
━━━━━ NSFW
So unserious during sex. Like, she’ll fuck you good and thorough but she’ll crack a joke every chance she gets and there’ll always be lots of laughter
her partner comes first. Extremely attentive, lots of check ins, needs them to be comfortable and have the best time
Very generous lover not just out of altruism but because it makes her feel better about herself, when she feels like she can do something, fix things
She likes vanilla sex. Nothing fancy. Strap is the maximum because it opens up a few more possibilities. Otherwise she’s just there to have a good time and make a pretty girl come.
doesn't mean it won't be intense though. she's into it big time and will let you know.
She likes realness. Her women can be as hairy, sweaty, wrinkly etc. as they want (within reason/basic hygiene)
obsessed with boobs--likes to get right in there.
she likes to give but no fixed top/bottom roles for her. whatever she feels like in the moment.

𝓼𝓾𝓶𝓶𝓪𝓻𝔂: After Jim's death, Donna has been spending more time with Tabitha and her kids than with you. When you pick her up in the evening, you confront her, and Donna is eager to make it up to you.
𝔀𝓬: ~ 4.15 k
𝓽𝓪𝓰𝓼: angst with a happy ending (literally), jealousy, established relationship, brief daddy kink, strap-on, slow and intimate, teasing, overstimulation, multiple orgasms, donna is obsessed with boobs and I don't blame her, the power dynamics are unclear: donna wears the strap but her gf calls the shots (kinda), service top!donna maybe? but who cares about terminology and labels anyway it's pride month folks, reader being such a whore for donna but what's new, donna is so unserious during sex and that’s a head canon girl is just there to have a good time, s4 spoilers, lots of feelings, donna -- yet again -- is THE GIVER

It wasn’t the first time you had to go pick Donna up from the Matthew house before nightfall. Ever since Jim died, she’d hardly been at Colony House and you couldn’t blame her because the Matthews were falling apart and Donna was about the only other adult aside from Tabitha that Julie and Ethan had bonded with and trusted. But the thing was, even before Jim’s death, Donna had spent a lot of time holding that family together, like a third parent almost. You’d always found it admirable but lately you hardly got to see her anymore and it felt like she was closer to Tabitha than you.
The weather had warmed again, at last. The sun was only beginning to set, drenching the tops of the tree in soft oranges, a few rays stretching along the road threading through the town. You wrapped your cardigan tighter around yourself, seeking protection from the gentle evening breeze that left goosebumps on your skin.
You passed Jim’s grave. It was still fresh, the soil disturbed, flowers laid atop. It was a tragedy. Donna hadn’t always seen eye to eye with Jim—most of the time she’d thought he was useless—but she wasn’t heartless and he’d probably grown on her as much as the rest of them. Seeing her at the funeral, biting back tears… like a cut to your own heart.
Tabitha let you in when you knocked on the door. You asked for Donna right away—not that she didn’t know you were here for her—and she pointed you towards the kitchen where she was putting dinner on the table where Ethan sat. Donna was trying to make conversation with him but with little success. He gave her a small smile here and there but the kid had just lost his father—there was no cheering him up.
“Donna,” Tabitha said, leading the way into the kitchen, arms wrapped around herself, “Your, um, presence is required.”
Without turning, Donna replied, “Whatever it is, it can wait until I’m done, alright.”
You’d halted at the arch, biting your lip at her answer. It was like she’d forgotten about you. Once she was needed somewhere, everything else just slipped her mind. It had happened with Fatima, and now with you.
“You might wanna…“ Tabitha tried again; fleeting glances in your direction.
You cleared your throat. Donna turned, and you looked at her intensely, not allowing her to avert her eyes. She put down the oven mittens and rounded the table, approaching you. Leaning with her hand against the frame of the arch, the other on her hip, she said, “Look, honey, um, I’ll be done here in a bit. Why don’t you go ahead and—“
“—wait for you to finish playing daddy for Tabitha?” you hissed, lips pursing.
writers really will spend twenty minutes pacing around the kitchen thinking “this scene is genius” and then sit down to type and suddenly remember approximately three words and one emotional vibe

I’ve been asking for a Fatima & Donna scene all season because I found it so odd that they hadn’t properly interacted in such a long time and especially after the first episode of season 4… Fatima has been like a daughter to Donna and Donna was so happy about her pregnancy and then so worried when things went wrong. It just didn’t make sense to me that Donna, after the smiley birth, wouldn’t have gone to Fatima and checked on her and hovered constantly. And yk Donna is a proud and stubborn woman but she 100 % would’ve gone to Fatima and been like “Fuck, I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you.” So to see them in the same room together in episode 7, having a bit of a (although brief) heart to heart and Fatima taking care of Donna… made me so happy. You could just tell Donna was still so worried and felt guilty but didn’t know how to articulate it. I love them so much.
