It feels like thousands of needles digging into his skin, volts of electricity coursing through the table or cross or whatever the hell he was tied down to here. The metal was course, rough, rusted thanks to the effect of plenty of sweat and blood streaking down it. Sabal knew plenty of good men and women whose bodies were plastered here too, whose guts were carved open, whose lives were lost. It's like a neverending nightmare, the damp, dark basement that Sabal refused to have as his resting place.

He was going to lead the Golden Path now. He was all they had. Darpan assured him he was Kyrat's future. Darpan put the weight of Kyra's hope into the young man's hands, and Sabal refused to give up the weight, refused to let go and let someone drop. He was strong, he was wise, he would learn from Mohan's teachings that he left behind and he would bring justice to Kyrat. He would kill Pagan, kill his governors, do everything Mohan ever dreamed of. Mohan would be proud of him. Ishwari would be proud of him. He would lead Kyrat on this golden path, soaked in sunshine for all of their future.

But he can't lead a revolution in a basement. He can't lead a revolution if he's dead. He's only twenty years old now, but he knew he would survive. Mohan grant him the strength. Kyra grant him the strength. He's not telling Paul a single thing he wants. Sabal heaves with each breath, his body shaking with each intake of air.

"We don't have any supply caches near the rivers. There are no boats heading towards your City. How many times do I have to tell you that?"

Of course a Prince would make demands and expect them to be followed. A spoiled tyrant's spoiled son would expect the entire world to bend over backwards for him and offer him everything he wanted in this world simply because of who his father was. Had Sabal not known better, he would have simply kept his kukri out and sank it into Lakshman's shoulder, something to show Pagan that the Golden Path was not simply fucking around with him anymore. They were serious threats and the son of Pagan should be treated like the threat he was to the Golden Path.

That was a great question, but Mohan knew the answer already. Why would he plague Ishwari with more troubles and fear and worries while she was away at home, providing for herself and their village. She needed to stay, needed to keep the homefront strong and morale high. If the Tarun Matara were to die in war, Mohan would be cast out, dishonored and questioned in every single thing he did. Nobody would trust him again and the Royalists would fall into disrepair if that were to occur.

And that's why Mohan had to keep this a secret. This is why people need not know what he does behind closed doors with his allies. She didn't need to know his plans, his strategies, his attractions. Mohan would never betray her, never ignore the role she holds in his life. But Pagan is up there too. His charisma, his behaviors, and Mohan didn't care that he was technically be bringing another man home to meet his wife. And hopefully more than just meet her. Pagan had a charm to him, and Mohan could not discredit that.

"Ishwari will be pleased to meet you. You behave yourself and she'll think you're calmer than me, any day of the week. I'm sure she'll take a shine to you."

Sabal was not used to compliments nowadays. As most of his time was spent between entertaining Amita's insanity and then soothing the worries of Kyra's people while also consistently hearing the degrading propaganda placing the Golden Path as terrorists who want to take innocent lives and destroy all the country stands for. Pagan's governors and himself spend hours just to antagonize the Golden Path for a short while, and Sabal can only tolerate it so much before he begins to fray at the edges and unravel. He rarely had a moment to himself, but finally, he could have one of those moments.

He could reside in his cabin, curled onto a cot while he tries to sleep away the pains of yesterday in order to prepare for the horrors of today in order to create a beautiful tomorrow. While enjoyable, his solitary time was short. Soon, there was a welcome interruption in the form of Kishan sitting on his bed, feeding him compliments as if Sabal's ego was a malnourished man at a buffet.

"Not every person." Sabal took the compliment as well as he always did. "You and Binsa are here, no? Kishan, you can't compare yourself to others. You're as radiant as the stars in Kyra's night sky."

Sabal's heard about the new "King". Sabal's heard Mohan's speeches, told the stories of Pagan taking the life of a child to become king, spoke on how Pagan betrayed all of Kyrat for a simple glimpse of power. Sabal's listened to it all and he's trusted it all. He was a child, after all. He was nine years old when Mohan returned home with few survivors and a heart twisted by betrayal and anguish. There was nothing to be learned from that day except for the fact Pagan Min was their enemy.

The enemy grew into a tyrant. The enemy became a monster. They enemy was committing cultural genocide and Sabal was only eleven years old as he watched the world twist under Pagan's grasp. There was no escape from his grasp, not even in the forests of Kyrat. Not even on worn out paths. A Royal Guard's jeep passed through the path Sabal was walking on, and he was frozen in fear to see The Tyrant stand before him. Talking....about himself?

Sabal was a child. He was a child and he was standing before Pagan and his armed guards. He was a goner.

"He's a m-mad tyrant." Stuttered the boy, his hair tied back in a ponytail, the loose strands sticking to his forehead. "And he's standing in front of me."
