Alternate Universes

[Character A]: A well established actor with several prestigious award nominations under their belt but no wins. They are desperate to win an award, and everyone says this project is a sure fire winner. They have decided to quit acting forever if this movie isn’t the one that brings home the gold. [Character A] is furious that the role they worked their entire is starring opposite a complete unknown.

[Character B]: A rookie. Untested but wildly talented and crazy passionate about the work. This is their first movie role. Previously they’ve done plays so far off Broadway they might as well have been performing for their parents in the living room.

[Character C]: [Character A]’s closest (and only) friend, and much more open to the idea of a new actor co-starring in a major prestige film. Befriends [Character B] as well, and frequently plays them off each other to their own amusement.

[Character D]: A socialite hell-bent on getting [Character A] in their bed and wearing their ring. They bankroll the film with the dual purpose of building up more social clout and getting more face-time with [Character A].

Consider:

Are [Character A] and [Character B] aware of their feelings of disgust turning into love? Do they think they are just having very good hate sex? If they aren’t aware, are they lying to themselves or just incredibly oblivious?

What are [Character C]’s feelings on [Character D]? Are they amused by the antics or angered by their very presence?

Are [Character D]’s feelings for [Character A] genuine love, naive infatuation, or possessive greed?

What time period does this take place in? What are the social conventions that prevent the characters from being/encourage the characters to be honest with themselves, the general public, and each other?

What kind of movie is it? Shakespeare re-imagining? Classic Romance? Period Drama?

How would this all change if it were a play on Broadway? A musical?

[Character A]: Unathletic, asthmatic high school sophomore who is bitten by a dangerous Alpha werewolf after their best friend drags them along to find a dead body in the woods. They find themselves suddenly good at sports and healthier than ever, but they frequently have black outs where they are being controlled by the Alpha.

[Character B]: [Character A]’s adventurous best friend. They guide [Character A] in discovering who they are and exploring the world of the supernatural, with an unhealthy amount of irreverence and goofing off along the way. Their parent/guardian is the sheriff, which frequently comes in handy for the main characters.

[Character C]: New kid in school, becomes romantically interested in [Character A]. Completely unaware of the supernatural or their family’s ancestral occupation: hunting werewolves.

Switch it up:

Ways to deviate from the source material.

[Character A] is born a werewolf, but they and their single parent are unaware of their latent power until it is brought to the surface by the Alpha’s attack. Their werewolf parent, long thought dead, returns when they hear of the transformation.

[Character A]’s parent(s)/guardian(s) are either the werewolf hunters or the sheriff.

[Character B]’s parent/gaurdian is a werewolf hunter

[Character C]’s parent/guardian is the sheriff, unaware of the supernatural

To better understand the characters. If you can accurately write a character in a world that is not their own, you know that character very well. Or, you know, for funsies.
