“  ha  !  so  funny  ”  she  rolled her  eyes  playfully at  the  blonde next  to  her.  “  that  really  hurt  a  lot,  i  was  two  seconds away  to  start  crying  like  a  baby  right  there  ”  venus  said  dramatically. “  a  lot  ”  she  agreed  with  a  nod  of  her  head.  “  that  would  be  great, i’m  not  ready  to  pack  everything  up  again  ”  the  brunette confessed,  her  eyes  moving  to  meet  august’s as  she  kissed the  back  of  her  hand.  “  you’re  so  cute,  have  i  ever  told  you  that  ?  ”  venus  smiled.  “  how  are  you  feeling ?  ”

“I’d like to think it’s one of my best qualities, but I think I’ll let you tell me that first.” She grinned at Venus, poking her on the nose. August always thought she looked pretty, but she thought Venus was prettiest when she was laughing. “My very own drama queen.” The blonde chuckled. “Look who’s talking,” she retorted playfully at the compliment. “I’m okay. I could use a coffee, though,” August hinted.

leilani’s  eyebrows knitted  together  the  second  she  heard  the  person  sitting close  to  her  words.  she  looked  at  the  blonde with  a  mix  of  confusion and  amusement  in  her  face.  “  i  guess  they  do  ?  but  i  don’t  know  if  they  can  think  more  than  …  i  have  to  eat,  i  wanna  drink  water  …  you  know  ?  ”  the  girl  chuckled.  “  i  mean  …  my  cat  does  that,  he  really  gives  a  fuck  about  me  most  of  the  time  ”  she  confessed.  “  maybe  freckle is  feeling  more  like  a  cat  and  less  like  a  hamster ”

“You’re probably right. You sounded pretty smart when you said it, so I trust your opinion.” August laughed. “That’d be hilarious and kind of ironic, since a cat would definitely eat him alive.” She shook her head. “That’s why I don’t have any cats.”

It was a pretty solid question, in Ale’s opinion. He didn’t really know much about hamsters though. Granted, he didn’t know much about most animals, if he was being honest with himself. “Freckle is a unique name for a hamster,” he said after a moment’s thought, turning to look at August. “Maybe he’s deep in thought when you’re calling him. If he’s a daydreamer or something then that could explain why he doesn’t go to you right way, right?”

“Right. I named him that because he’s a dwarf hamster so he’s really tiny... like a freckle.” She shrugged. It made sense to her at the time but it seemed like she ended up explaining it more often than not. “That would make sense. If he daydreams, that would mean he has some thoughts.”

Dustin licked his lips, thinking seriously for a moment. “I feel like hamsters just like…exist.” he explained. “I don’t know if they’re smart enough to think. I think they just like…eat sleep and poop.” 

“Maybe you’re right.” August shrugged. It wasn’t like it really mattered, it was just a random thing that popped into her head. “You know what they say, pets take after their owners.”

their  new  place  was  still  a  mess,  it  hadn’t  been  more  than  a  couple of  days  since  they  got  to  newhaven. they  had  to  pack  everything from  their  home  in  seattle, this  was  easily the  second  time  they  have  moved  together to  a  new  location,  yet  venus  was  far  from  getting  bored  with  all  those  changes. the  brunette  made  her  way  walking  around the  boxes  back  to  their  bedroom.  she  let  herself fall  on  the  mattress  next  to  the  blonde.  “  princess,  are  you  up  ?  ”  she  asked  softly,  she  was  pretty sure  august  had  been  awake  since  venus  cursed  because she  had  hit  her  little toe  with  one  of  the  boxes.

“I am, I heard you yelling around at the boxes,” August teased, grinning at her visibly exhausted girlfriend. “We’ve done a lot of moving, haven’t we? Hopefully this is our last stop. At least, for a while,” she mused, grabbing one of Venus’s hands gingerly and placing a kiss on the back of it. It surprised even her that she’d been in a relationship long enough to talk about settling down, and on top of that settling down in a small one horse town. Still, if anyone was able to get her to agree to all of that, it would be Venus.
