“If I hadn’t left you with him...” Simon sighs into his hands, voice muffled with frustration. “What could you possibly have done?” She’d meant for it to come out more as a question than an accusation. She’d intended to placate him, diffuse the situation, and escape from his useless self-pity, but the look on his face is something she can’t quite name. It fills her mouth with the acrid taste of bile, hot and tinged with regret. Simon glances away from her, emotions flashing across his face too quick to read.  She’s relieved, for a moment, that she didn’t grow up with Simon and his myriad of feelings and sensitivities. It was hard enough to navigate her father’s long stretches of silence, never knowing what would set him off. At least she could be silent too. It never hurt to be quiet, unseen and unheard.

Born and raised in New Haven, Dustin loved the small town life. Not the brightest guy around, he had dreams of going off to college somewhere exotic and exploring the world, but his grades and lack of money limited him. So he decided to take after his father as a carpenter. He likes to call himself the town handy-man, spending his days doing menial tasks like plumbing or fixing up houses for the residents when he isnt woodworking.

Most Played Genres: metalcore/metal subgenres & rock, though he would listen to just about anything.

Where you can typically find him: down by the shore, at a concert every now and then, or most likely, the record store he owns and operates.

Bad Habits: smoking, drinking too much, and over indulging.

Bio:

Jasper Grayson was born to Blanche and Jay Grayson on November 25th 1995. Blanche was nurse practitioner, and Jay was a mechanic. The family was teetering on middle class. They had a decent home that was within a 20 minute radius from just about everything.

Jasper’s relationship with his parents was unique, but also he wouldn’t want it any different. He was close to both of them, and it was unlike the stories he would hear from some of his rebellious classmates. He never wanted to get like them, but peer pressure sure did exist.

As he grew up, he tested boundaries with his family, specifically his father, all because of his bad influence friends. He would disobey orders from specifically his father and it grew plenty of tension between the two of them.

His mother was a sweet soul and she always wanted to bring the good back out of him, and it almost always existed with her around. That was always until his father would enter the room and arguments would brew. 

This also lead to a major decision for his father to make. To kick out his son at the age of 17.

He lived on many friend’s couches and it really shaped him to realize attitude and reckless behavior don’t always bring the best scenarios.

He begged his mother to allow him to live with her, but she had to say no because she feared the worst from her husband (Jay). Every now and again when Jay was battling his own internal struggles, he would stay far from the home, presumably cheating on his wife, but that was typically when Blanche would make the executive decision to allow Jasper to stay the night and leave before Jay came back.

Jasper cherished the relationship he had with his mom and he knew he owed her so much.

After graduating high school (very very close to not even graduating at all), he took it upon himself to leave the state of Maine with two of his friends for a road trip before some were to go to college, and see where he could really start his story.

One of the first stops was North Carolina, more specifically NewHaven. It was where he felt a tug on his heartstrings. There was some hold on him that made him feel like this place was where he belonged.

They continued their road trip and ended it with everyone parting ways. That was until he decided to take the vehicle he lived with his friends in for what seemed like one whole month and head back to the place that made him feel like was his long lost home.

He has been living here ever since he was on the verge of turning 19.

How he got the record store was a loan he took out a few years later (he’s around the age of 23 at this point) and he overheard a shop going out of business in town. He decided to take the steps to own it legally and turn it into a shop he wanted. He bought lots of crates of records from wholesale shops and thrift shops to make up his original inventory and it’s been open ever since. The name Vinyl Yard came from an old name of a record store he remembered that got shut down many years ago in Maine called Record Land. Before it got shut down, he remembered some old shirts were made with a name they tested out prior and decided to ditch before sticking with Record Land. He contacted the old owners before coining the name and there was no issue with taking it. 

Headcanons:

Jasper’s interests are going to concerts, listening to music, collecting obscure records and media, and watching indie wrestling promos.

Jasper owns a motorcycle and sold the car he bought off his friend in order to get it. The model is a Triumph Tiger 800 XR in black. For the remaining cash he needed to get it, he saved up some money from doing some open mic nights at a few bars. This purchase took place after Vinyl Yard successfully stayed open for a year.

His general wardrobe consists of jeans (some with holey knees), dark colored shirts and hoodies, and plenty of pairs of sneakers.

He has a major soft spot for cats and dogs. If you were to ask him what he loved more, he would absolutely say both. 

He’s really good at playing guitar.

He likes to make playlists for people he develops connections with (obviously on good terms).
