There was not supposed to be a dead body in the dining room. Granted, there wasn’t supposed to be any dead bodies so the woman could be forgiven her surprise. Her red-rimmed eyes and messy bun paired with yoga pants made to look like office-appropriate trousers gave the impression she was already going through something. She pulled out her phone and tapped something out, her left pointer finger nail naked of a press-on manicure that her other nails wore. Her stifled curses were the only sound in the space for a long handful of minutes.
The long, slow, sonorous sound of a fart filled the empty space, echoing slightly. The woman turned slowly, horror growing. The body, Ambrose, had shifted slightly. She covered her face with her shirt, gagging, and fled the room for the outside deck and clean-smelling lake breeze.
