I heard about Atharv the first day I got to IIM. The one thing that was crystal clear right from the start was the fact that Atharv was one of the highest point of an IPMer’s life. And after the long days and intense preparations, finally, came day 0. As the dragon rose, I was afraid that it will roast me and eat me alive (Because, well, you know…. better than nonveg in IIM campus, right? : p).…

Learning from the Dragon.

When the dragon finally wakes up from her slumber, before venturing into anything else, she hunts.   Why, you ask?   Wonder no more. :P   Because a) she is awesome at it, what with breathing fire and everything else she has going on for herself, and because b) she is the kind which prefers to earn their evening merrymaking by grinding through the day and proving their mettle first in the…

The acoustic music competition in the gorgeous new auditorium: there’s an olympic size swimming pool adjacent to this expansive place, but in this corner of the universe I’m lost in how overwhelmingly indulging and soulful the music is. I’m one with the audience and a little lost on myself; it is great. The scales shift and I’m still here and it is time to hurry out but, oh wait, why are these wonderfully dressed people strutting across the stage? I’m curious, I enjoy this splay of innovation. I try to tiptoe out as it ends and these people are suddenly on the stage with their band sets and they look..where are they even form? There’s bustling in the audience;someone whistles. I sit back, Delirium is ridiculously good band music with ridiculously good company.

I sneak out finally..to see people spray painting and zorbing. Whaaaat?! I ebb towards it; I’m in the plastic bubble, tumbling with joy. I’m eating good, pretty good food up the hill, there’s a rhythm to the bonfire and the people around the bonfire. I’m back: someone is performing down there. We’re in splits, we’re a part of the stand up comedy show, I absolutely love it. And then I’m sitting on the rooftop with perfect strangers. They’re dancing around, the music is not my usual but I add my own moves. There’s little sleep to be had in this place full of talented, young people my age, and I am glad to forego whatever little semblance of non-caffeine days I had.

There I am again: it’s 6am and people are walking around in party clothes like it’s their morning stroll. I smile.There’s crazy, loud shouting from one of the rooms: I sneak a look to see people huddled up around computers, in crazy bunches..playing video games. Just when I thought I had seen enough of the place! There’s a passion to investing yourself to an alarmingly fast car down the track, or to be in a football team full of virtual strangers. There’s a passion to sitting for hours exploring these complex universes. I walk out, the passion tingling my skin.

When you see a dragon, it seems to be moving fast. When you’re sitting on the dragon, you are assured that it is moving fast. But when you become one with the dragon, you’re flying. I walk out the fancy gates, the best flight I ever had.
