āBeet powder provides a wide range of nutrients, but its most significant phytochemical is betaine. Betaine helps the liver process fat. This prevents the accumulation of fatty tissues in the liver (steatosis), especially in heavy drinkers, and it also prevents excessive triglycerides and LDL cholesterol in the blood. According to the American Heart Association, beet juice can help lower blood pressure and due to the high content of iron in beets, it is good for anemia.
Beet root naturally cleans the kidneys and gall bladder. The potassium present in it helps in providing nourishment to the body for daily functions while chlorine organically cleans the liver and kidney. In addition, it has positive effects on oneās digestive system as it helps in the treatment of digestive disorders and problems like jaundice, nausea and vomiting due to dysentery or diarrhea. Beet root combined with carrot juice can prove extremely beneficial in building the red corpuscles thereby helping in treating low vitality and anemia. Being an excellent solvent for inorganic calcium deposits, beet juice helps in the treatment of hypertension and other cardiovascular disorders. It is also extremely beneficial for women as it aids in the regulation of menstruation. Along with having numerous health benefits, beet root is also beneficial for the skin. Folate is considered an important aid in maintaining a healthy pregnancy. It is critical at times of rapid cell development as it is necessary for creating DNA and RNA.
The high level of folate (up to 136 grams per cup) in beets makes them a valuable food for pregnancy. Spina bifida and anencephaly are two birth defects which may be prevented by the consumption of folate rich foods. Typical Preparations - One or two teaspoons added to water or juice, 2-4 times daily. One teaspoon of powder provides the nutrition in one beet.ā - morethanalive.com

Incredibly beautiful huge twin tree trunks šæ Sometimes to reconnect with oneself we need to reconnect with nature. Mother Earth - The most beautiful, mind blowing source of life! The most beautiful HOME to all life! Plants, animals, humans... I could never be grateful enough for it. Without Mother Earth we would not exist. We need to care for her, respect her, show her love, give back from what we have taken and heal her from what we have destroyed. Like Mahatma Gandhi once said "What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another." Let us all be mindful and keep this in mind šā¤ļø Happy Earth day ā¤ļøš here's a nice little excerpt from @mysticmamma written by Jamie Sams: āThe trees are called Standing People because they are our teachers. They do not walk about like human beings, but they do hold the energy of the Earth and Sky. āThe roots of the trees go deep into our Mother Earth, and their branches reach for the sunlight high in the sky. These teachers of the woods show humankind how to balance the male and female energies present in every human being. āThrough their example, we can learn how to give and receive. The trees are firmly grounded in the Earth and are reaching for the heaves with their branches, showing human beings how to be bridges between the tangible and non-tangible worlds. The balance of demonstrative and receptive is found in the heart of humans and in the trunk of trees. āThese living examples of balance allow humankind to discover the flow of life force that brings inner peace. It is circular and flows up through the roots to the tops of the branches, traveling down to the roots again, creating a recycling of energy.ā

Oats. So soothing, warming and simple.Ā
"Oats are rich in a specific type of fiber called beta-glucan. This particular type of fiber is known to help lower levels of bad cholesterol. Minerals - oats contain manganese, selenium, phosphorus, fiber, magnesium, and zinc. Oats are also rich in carotenoids, tocols (Vitamin E), flavonoids and avenanthramides - a class of polyphenols. Oats are also known to be very calming and soothing."

"Meg Jay hopes to motivate a generation of twenty-somethings who have repeatedly been told they have plenty of time to figure out their lives. On the contrary, Jay sites statistics about career growth, relationship development and reproductive capabilities that all emphasize the importance of our 20s as a formative period that sets the trajectory for the rest of our lives." - TED talks
This morning I listened to a TED Talk in which Barry Schwartz, author of The Paradox of Choice, explained how and why the abundance of choice in modern society is actually making us miserable. And as...
"I was recently told of an African tribe that does the most beautiful thing. When someone does something hurtful and wrong, they take the person to the center of town, and the entire tribe comes and surrounds him. For two days theyāll tellĀ the man every good thing he has ever done. The tribe believes that every human being comes into the world as GOOD, each of us desiring safety, love, peace, happiness. But sometimes in the pursuit of those things people make mistakes. The community sees misdeeds as a cry for help. They band together for the sake of their fellow man to hold him up, to reconnect him with his true Nature, to remind him who he really is, until he fully remembers the truth from which heād temporarily been disconnected: āI AM GOODā. āSAWABONAā is a common greeting among the tribes of northern Natal in South Africa and it literally means āI SEE YOUā As to say, āI respect and acknowledge you for who you areā In return people say āSIKBONAā which literally means āI AM HEREā as to say āWhen you see me you bring me into existenceā. "
Dairy, gluten and nut free alfredo sauce made from creamy cauliflower. Incredibly easy, super healthy and makes me wonder why we never made it like this in the first place. Cauliflower is a very versatile vegetable that virtually has no flavour so can be used in replacement for a lot of things. If you can substitute grains and dairy with a fresh organic vegetable it's a winner in my opinion. I've seen a lot of recipes floating round for cauliflower rice, cauliflower pizza crust and now this cauliflower alfredo sauce I was recommended by my cousin so I thought I'd give it a go and it was every bit like the real thing but HEALTHY.Ā
The recipe was taken from Detoxinista's website (one of my favourite health food sites for recipes) here:Ā http://detoxinista.com/2013/05/creamy-cauliflower-alfredo-dairy-free-nut-free/
The spaghetti I used was brown rice spaghetti from Dove's farm (organic and gluten free) and I added in some chopped portobello mushroom and broccoli in the sauce too. Delicious :-)
Last night, late night, date night my buddy took me to La Suite West's RAW restaurant situated on Inverness Terrace in London.Ā
Away from the usual "Mother Earth" decor associated with Vegan restaurants around London, La Suite West's RAW restaurant is tucked away in the contemporary designed hotel serving fresh seasonal vegan dishes never heated above 42°C. Vegetable and fruit mocktails, beetroot falafels (my favourite), papaya pappardelle (my second favourite), cauliflower samosas and mushroom and quinoa burgers with sweet potato bread are only the few options off the menu that we tried. Totally guilt free, healthy and tasty eating out in London. Such a relief to have more of these options popping up and I'll definitely be making my way back for some raw cacao cookies, orange and chocolate "cheesecake" and chocolate and coconut cake. Mmmm delicious!

"The idea that being enlightened means being blissed-out all the time is simply not true. To be awakened means to be fully authentic with the present moment, HOWEVER it appears."Ā
