So for those who haven't realized yet, chocolate companies have started cheaping out so much that a number of candies that were originally considered milk chocolate no longer contain enough chocolate to qualify as such and can now only be labeled as Chocolaty.
(Candy has to clear a 10% chocolate liquor minimum in order to be considered Milk Chocolate. So Chocolaty candy has single digit percentage of actual chocolate in it.)
They've started replacing some percentage of the cacao butter with palm oil.
The companies insist that people can't really tell the difference between Milk Chocolate and Chocolaty candy, but as a life long chocolate eater who has just eaten a Chocolaty marshmallow easter bunny- that's absolute bullshit.
It's awful. It doesn't even taste like chocolate.
No one I know who likes chocolate and eats it regularly would think it tastes like chocolate, unless there's literally something funky going on with their taste buds in the medical sense.
So I guess PSA to every chocoholic hoping to score clearance treats, if it says Chocolaty instead of Milk Chocolate don't even bother getting it because it's just like eating vaguely sweet in a fruity way wax.
