People are driving me crazy whining that a play they haven't seen is terrible because it doesn't confirm their asoiaf headcanons. I cant even blame george, if i knew people were so enititled i wouldn't finish the next book either. Can you imagine how much complaining there would be if he ever actually did release it?
At the risk of poking a bear, a lot of people sure are real mad about a play that they have not seen because they imagine its contents contradict their elaborate headcanons about characters and situations we knew very little about up until now.
okay we know that sansa and jon weren’t very close growing up so presumably robb played more of the “big brother” role in her life, in my head robb is to sansa what jon is to arya. so like. what happens when sansa finds out that jon broke his vows and died for arya, meanwhile robb left her as a hostage with the lannisters AND disinherited her (he certainly felt guilty and conflicted about it, we know that from cat’s pov, but still. he did it). like yes I get that robb had legitimate political reasons to do so and as a king he probably made the better choice (giving the northerners and riverlanders a major advantage + probably preventing an uprising that would have resulted from trading a man for two girls and keeping his crown + protecting winterfell/the north from being claimed by the lannisters) but also…jon had legitimate political reasons to choose the watch over arya too. it would have saved his own life, plus he’s not only responsible for castle black and a good portion of the free folk, but also he’s kind of the only person doing anything about the literal apocalyptic threat that almost nobody else believes in. and he chose arya anyway, just as he almost certainly would have done in robb’s place, the choice that robb did not make for sansa twice over (or for arya when he still believed that she was alive). like basically jon did for arya what robb refused to do for sansa. godd as if sansa hasn’t suffered enough, as if this realization wouldn’t be torturous given that she’s mourning robb’s death at the same time, just as she’s mourning catelyn’s (who also agreed to disinheriting her in order to keep winterfell out of lannister hands). and okay I do think that sansa would give robb some grace (as arya does when she understands that robb may not be able to ransom her now that he’s a king), sansa could probably tell herself that it was all political and not personal, but ?? how would that not hurt. how would it not kill her that it stopped being personal (see this is why we need a robb pov because I know his angst over this was CRAZY based on the little snippets that we get from catelyn). anyway hopefully it would bring sansa some comfort to know that jon’s memories of her ultimately played a part in him choosing love over duty. obviously he died trying to save arya specifically, but it was the memories of all of his siblings that pushed him to do so, including his memory of sansa (“of Sansa, brushing out Lady’s coat and singing to herself”). robb I love you but you better step up your big brother game because jon has you beat in every category (just kidding it’s too late for that. rip king).
the person who believes every day that the winds of winter is getting released tomorrow is a fool every day but one

George R.R. Martin talks about Sansa Stark’s strengths and transformation [ x ]
"Men would say she had my look, but she will grow into a woman far more beautiful than I ever was, you can see that. I often sent away her maid so I could brush her hair myself. She had auburn hair, lighter than mine, and so thick and soft... the red in it would catch the light of the torches and shine like copper."

what if your mother is a PROPHETIC KNIGHT your father is a songwriter married to a lesbian and your uncle is currently with her lover and your paternal grandfather BURNS ALIVE your maternal grandfather and your paternal grandmother wants your (unborn) aunt to bring dragons back. and your name is jonathan. you were stabbed 15 times in the cold
What I’m learning about the ASOIAF fandom is that their brains are so fried by the 15 year gap in books and their headcanons have become so entrenched, that short descriptions of a play they have not even seen, read more like threat than art they’re yet to seriously engage with.
george believes exactly what i believe every single word that leaves his mouth affirms my exact interpretation of the series and all of my extrapolations r perfectly coherent and will be vindicated and everything that happens in any adaptation that i dislike is something that has no root in canon and was twisted by the devils that took his text and ruined it that the old man despises with the fury of a thousand suns and everything that i do like came directly from him
the best way to read george interviews is to take out and magnify the parts of it which can take a shape that supports my agenda entirely in the great agenda wars and ignore the countless other things he had also very much said that do the complete opposite. this is also how u should read entire books as well
re: failed king's landing escape, everyone sees sansa as this big bad 11 year old who betrayed her father but all I see is ned desperately trying to save his daughters and failing and then sansa desperately trying save her father and failing
whenever someone expresses a negative opinion about sansa stark I immediately tune them out idgaf. IDGAFFFFF

something important to me is that all the techniques meant to strip away the unsullied’s humanity don’t work. the only reason the unsullied are “compliant” as slaves is because of the very real threat of death/pain to themselves and/or their families. when they are freed, they don’t remain stony, emotionless warriors. they’re people who were subjected to unspeakable cruelty and made it out the other side
