In thirteen years I have yet to successfully convince my cat not to pester me while I work, but I have managed to persuade her to let me use her as an armrest while I type, so at least she's productively in the way.

Some quick research suggests that only Scots English still uses "gat" as the simple past tense of "to get", with the form surviving in other English dialects only in the archaic "begat" (i.e., the simple past tense of the likewise archaic "to beget"), and I feel like we need to fix that.

Mostly a combination of "not wanting to walk to the grocery store when it's 30C outside" and "owing to the particulars of my employment situation I only get paid once a month, so disposable income tends to be tight in the final week, and I'm disinclined to incur debt to buy cheese".

It's super entertaining how a lot of housecats seem to parse camera lenses as eyes and react accordingly, but I sometimes wonder if wild cats have the same reaction. Like, are wildlife studies getting messed up because a bobcat saw a trail camera and was like Why Is This Fucking Thing Watching Me?

A thing about the lack of institutional continuity in indie video game development is that everybody is figuring everything out from first principles every single time, and if you've been around the block enough times you start to recognise common technical fuckups on sight. "Oh, this game's scrolling is all juddery because they anchored the camera directly to a physics object with no smoothing and their physics frame rate doesn't divide evenly into their screen frame rate – classic rookie mistake" sounds like it ought to be an unhinged thought to have, and yet.
