thats it, i finished university. did my last exam yesterday. can't believe this happened. not after five years of up and downs and almost giving up; not after losing myself and finding someone completely different along the way; learning and unlearning how life is supposed to be; losing friends and lovers for my own mistakes; not after missing a part of me i'll probably never find again. i did it. i survived. idk if i'll still keep this tumblr because - i'm adult now. days of notebooks, cute pens and post-its are almost over and i couldn't be happier. a toast to all my fellow STEM girls. a toast for all of our broken hearts and broken minds. we did it, girls. we did it. (17 year old ella wouldnt believe if i were to tell her everything that happened since 2017 but. here we are).

I’m literally obsessed with my new desk- I got it secondhand and the builders’ label marks it as having been built in may of 1944, only a 30 minute drive from my house. The former owners said they think it was build for a womens’ college in my city!

Lucille Clifton, from The Book of Light; “Here Yet Be Dragons”
loving and respecting black women goes beyond finding your black favs hot and calling them the blueprint . If you don’t extend your love and admiration to the black women in your life whether they are close to you or just working at your local shop or just waiting in an elevator with you then your activism means nothing . And loving and respecting black women doesn’t mean fetishizing us it means respecting us as people with inner lives and flamboyant souls and emotions and BOUNDARIES . Let’s get that in all y’all leftists heads
I didn’t know cheetahs meow I’ve always thought they roar my whole life has been a lie
Ok but the other one is purring so hard
If I ever don’t reblog this assume I’m dead
Fun fact: technically, because of its inability to roar and its ability to purr, the cheetah is not a ‘big cat’ (or Great Cat) - they are still classified as Lesser Cats.
Also you haven’t heard anything until you hear them cheep.
YOU CANNOT JUST SAY THAT AND NOT PROVIDE A VIDEO
I HAVE REALISED MY MISTAKE AND SHALL RECTIFY IT:
Cheeps.
Oh my god
I’m dead now

in summary : a lot of books and skincare finds. also a lot of cramming french for my job, but well worth the effort✨
Cuba’s Abdala Vaccine is 92% Effective
Clinical trials on Cuba’s vaccine candidate, Abdala, have demonstrated a 92.28% effectiveness rate in its three dose application, making it one of the world’s most effective vaccines against Covid-19.
The news follows an announcement over the weekend by scientists of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, who reported an initial 62% efficacy of Cuba’s Soberana 02 vaccine.
The news was broken by journalist Leticia Martinez Hernandez who posted via Twitter, “The effectiveness with three doses of #Abdala is 92.28%. The scientist Marta Ayala has just informed President @DiazCanelB.”
Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel also confirmed the news, stating that “In less than 48 hours, Cuban scientists have given our heroic people, who are resisting the criminal blockade exacerbated in a pandemic, two overwhelming results. In two days we will denounce the blockade to the world, counting on two of our own vaccines. #SomosCuba #CubaViva”
Diaz Canel added, “Hit by two pandemics (#COVID19 and #Blockade), our scientists from Finlay and CIGB, have surpassed all obstacles and have given us two very effective vaccines: #SOBERANA02 and #Abdala. I think of Martí, who wrote that it is not intelligence received casually that gives man honor, but the way he uses it and saves it. There is only one way to endure and that is to serve. Above all, I think of Fidel, who did so much for Science and Medicine at the service of Humanity. He said: Everyone who has a vocation for health, I invite you to study … There is a huge world that is in need of you.“
The efficacy of Abdala places it above other vaccines such as Oxford/AstraZeneca which is 85-90% effective.

i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls
Never don’t reblog this. There are so many people who have such bad anxiety about phone calls. This can save so many lives
As a person with suicidal thoughts and zero communication skills when it comes to phone calls this could legit save my life
locusimperium:
A few years ago, when I was living in the housing co-op and looking for a quick cookie recipe, I came across a blog post for something called “Norwegian Christmas butter squares.” I’d never found anything like it before: it created rich, buttery and chewy cookies, like a vastly superior version of the holiday sugar cookies I’d eaten growing up. About a year ago I went looking for the recipe again, and failed to find it. The blog had been taken down, and it sent me into momentary panic.
Luckily, I remembered enough to find it on the Wayback Machine, and quickly copied it into a file that I’ve saved ever since. I probably make these cookies about once a month, and they last about five days around my voracious husband - they’re fantastic with a cup of bitter coffee or tea. I’m skeptical that there is something distinctively Norwegian about these cookies, but they do seem like the perfect thing to eat on a cold day.
Norwegian Christmas Butter Squares
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 egg 1 cup sugar 2 cups flour 1 tsp vanilla ½ tsp salt Turbinado/ Raw Sugar for dusting
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Chill a 9x13″ baking pan in the freezer. Do not grease the pan.
Using a mixer, blend the butter, egg, sugar, and salt together until it is creamy. Add the flour and vanilla and mix using your hands until the mixture holds together in large clumps. If it seems overly soft, add a little extra flour.
Using your hands, press the dough out onto the chilled and ungreased baking sheet until it is even and ¼ inch thick. Dust the top of the cookies evenly with raw sugar.
Bake at 400 degrees until the edges turn a golden brown, about 12-15 minutes. Remove from the oven. Let cool for about five minutes before cutting the cooked dough into squares. Remove the squares from the warm pan using a spatula.
So I tried this recipe.
And it is GREAT.
It basically makes the platonic ideal of commercial sugar cookies, only in bar form. When I give them to people (which I do a lot, because this is one of those simple recipes where the results seem very impressive), I just tell them they’re sugar cookie bars.
Life hack: add white chocolate chips and sea salt
I made these today for the equinox with sea salt caramel chips and they are simply amazing. Let’s see how long they last with six people in the house!
Noting for later (as we need more butter for this, and probably won’t do a grocery shopping till the weekend).
The OP version of this has become my go-to cookie for basically all things and I have a whole cohort of friends and colleagues who would murder each other to get them. Haven’t tried any add ons yet, since the base recipe is SO GOOD.
This sounds amazing and I must try it when I have more time and energy
