“My good sir, that was just playing dirty.” Jessica, pouting over her top score being defeated by Lee? Oh-ho, very likely. You can find the two of them at the boardwalk arcade, with her frame supported against that very game, two snowcones fresh in hand: one for herself, and one for the man she gloated to so confidently, so sure of herself and so smug! Karma is swift, karma is relentless and karma wears the surname ‘Everett’. 

But is she really upset with him? No, not at all. That doesn’t mean she isn’t a sore loser, though!

   “Heh, really hadn’t meant to, Jess.” Pleasantly unexpected company would come in the form of one JESSICA RABBIT, so it would seem. For before he knew it, the ex-professor would find himself participating in an array of activities that he didn’t think he would have been able to, after all these years. CHILDLIKE WHIMSY in the form of brightly lit ARCADE GAMES and even vibrantly colored SNOW CONES... there was no denying that he appreciated all of this, at the end of the day.

“I, um…” 

Tenn hesitated in the doorway, his eyes skipping across the room. It still seemed surreal to see an adult in the school again - familiar and alien all at once. Or, not alien, maybe. Just a little… off. Like someone had drawn a picture but made the background too small for the person. He blinked rapidly, collecting his thoughts and refocusing his gaze on Lee. 

“I made you something. For your room.” Resisting the urge to fidget with the edges of the paper clasped in his hands, Tenn entered the room, closing the distance between him and Lee in a series of small steps. 

“I know how weird it is… staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like yours.” He hesitated, then held the paper out for Lee’s inspection, revealing a sketch of Lee, AJ and Clementine sitting together on the steps outside of the school. A shy smile warmed his face, softening the trepidation in his eyes. “It’s not much, but I thought it might, um… help make this place feel a little more like home.”

   BROWS WERE QUICK to raise in surprise, as Lee would look over towards who it was that stood at his door then. An admittedly comical reaction on his part, wide eyes would eventually simmer back down with the slightest of self scorning. Having been a little too deep in thought there, perhaps, Lee? It had been too long since he had offered himself that sort of luxury. Having been on the road for so long, one could not afford to get too caught up in their own thoughts. Having always needed to keep one eye open, even as they slept. This was all too... good to be true, a place that could truly be called HOME.

   As quiet as a shadow, so would his arrival however be the very thing to break through the GREY SILENCE itself, “Oh, hey there, Tenn.” Already offering the other a soft smile, so would he himself lift off his bed and go over to where the young man stood. A mild mannered child, Lee couldn’t help but be reminded of those days when he would find a littler Clementine huddling closely by his side. Or even simply keeping quietly to herself, as she would happily draw away on the giant leaves that she had found in the woods, that one time. Looking at the boy that stood before him then, Lee was simply glad that he hadn’t scared him off.

   Much like the rest of them, Tenn had been... just as welcoming to the likes of him. It had certainly left him wondering a good few times on why was it that NO OTHER ADULTS had resided here with them. And how fortunate it was that they would be so quick to treat him, Clem and AJ like they were their very own.

   “This...” He would struggle for a moment to speak, eyes this time widening over the GIFT to which he had just received. Along with the words of thought and consideration that was so clearly put into it all, “So, this was what you were working on earlier?” Lee was no artist himself, but this right here was a MASTERPIECE, if he’d ever seen one, “You’re a real talented kid, you know that?”

   “Oh?”

   NO MORE THAN AN APPARITION, by this point, a MERE WISH that she had hardly dared to utter unless needed. That loving smile would never leave that visage of his, as warm eyes never left her own. Her uncertain ones that wouldn’t yet make contact with his own, but would instead look out across the autumn scenery that the train was speeding right by then. Why here, again? He had lightly poked. Even though he knew that this was where it had all truly began. That very day when hands would steady themselves upon her shoulders for just a little while longer-- before it was time to let go.

   After all these years,                   She was still fighting, still surviving out there.                                              Long after he himself had left it.

   “I wouldn’t say that...” 

   He was babying her again, even after all this time. Softening the blow, but never necessarily straying too far from the TRUTH. For that, was how she would always remember him, right? Not at all BLIND FAITH induced from the LOVE he would carry for the one he had long since seen as the DAUGHTER he never had. His entire world... for that matter. She had proven herself from the moment they had met at that tree house, and she sure as hell was gonna keep doing just that.

   “There’s a lot of tough decisions you gotta make in a world like the one you live in, now.. A world where survival’s key-- it brings out the worst in most folks. But, I know my Clementine. And, I know you will always do what’s best for you... and the people that need you.”

          “ … ” he didn’t say anything! please don’t kill him!

   Lies, he has attained heightened hearing after all these years.                And he certainly heard that wishful thinking of yours about                                                                       getting with his little orange.

  IT WAS A SMALL ENOUGH MISHAP that would in due time lead to even BIGGER MESSES, should they not move fast enough to take control of the situation while they still could. As he could hear the rising panic in the young man’s voice, Lee would reach forward to place his hand upon the back of his shoulder. Feeling that slight jump, and in return securing his grip all the more over him.

   “Steady, now.” Knowing that he was more than capable  (Heck, all of these kids were, really), they could all still make it out of this, alive and well. NO ONE was going to be left behind, not on his watch. They were not going to turn away then, and leave one of their own behind. Especially when there was still certainly a way to rescue him. Quickly reassessing the situation itself then, he would take into account the number of WALKERS that neared their unfortunate companion. A few heads that he still likely needed to take down with his own weapon, before they could all get out of there safely “Those traps you guys made– we can use those to distract them. Just long enough so that we can reach him and get oughta here. You ready?”

   “Heh, you’re fine, kid.” Lee would assure the other then, as amusement made itself known with the slightest raise of brows and a light curl in the corner of his very lips. Despite the need to grow up a whole lot faster in this world of theirs, let teens be teens. Often wary and tired features but softening then as he brought his attention to the young man, Lee did appreciate the other’s attempt to keep the atmosphere just a little lighter. To bring a little HAPPINESS back into this life to which they now all lived.

   Ever grateful for these brief moments of respite, Lee however hadn’t expected to find himself being accepted so warmly by the likes of… ones so young. Other than the fact that they were so close to Clementine’s age– they had managed to build a sturdy society all by themselves. Easily proving their capability, here was a FAMILY that he had only ever dreamed of seeing, as the years went by. The longer he was exposed to the young man’s antics, the more Lee marveled over how long it has been since he had come across someone so… optimistic. Not at all blind to the reality that surrounds them, Louis simply knew that there were still reasons to SMILE. Things to appreciate, to hold onto, in this otherwise slowly dying world of theirs.

   He should be flattered, for that matter. For the kid to even take his feelings into consideration, evoking a slight chuckle then as he would cast his eyes down to the chair leg that he was still holding onto, ”Played a lil’ ball, back when I was your age. That was an impressive swing you got there.”
