He woke up only ten minutes ago and was already having a migraine. A very unusual thing for a guy like him, but even heroes like him had some flaws. Holding his head with one hand, he wobbled into the dining hall and sat down, looking at all the food Kirumi had prepared for them. He honestly failed to notice the girl until he heard her voice.

“Mornin’, Harukawa. I’m all right, just got a bit of a headache, that’s all. What’s up with you?”

     A brow was quipped; he seemed a lot less eccentric than usual, didn’t he? Color her curious, when he was usually so loud and overzealous. Maybe he was just tired. Any reasonable explanation aside, it was just odd to see him like so. 

    The fighter’s eyes wonder briefly to her plate. She’d taken some of what Kirumi made and picked at it, but didn’t get very much beyond that, more focused on hydrating herself post-morning-workout. 

       “Trained,” 

    She answered simply, letting her fingers drift to a fork discarded to the side of her plate previously, just to give her hands something to do. 

        “Having a workout room is a whole new experience for me,                 so i’ve been using it as much as possible.”

    As once could probably tell from the sweat still running down some of her face.

    If there was any place the assassin could see herself dying, it certainly wasn’t here. In a cold alleyway by herself? Maybe. At the hands of a rival organization? Possibly. Never did she think she’d be slumped pathetically into the arms of one of her classmates, much less Rantarou Amami. The unforseen outcome was but a small trifle among the other thoughts twisting around her head as the final minutes of her life drained away so painfully slow. 

   Her eyes bleary and unfocused, she mulled over the path of which she’d taken, how her life had turned out, and how she’d met her much-deserved end. She felt tears burn the backs of her eyes, felt an overwhelming sense of regret. Why? She should be grateful that somebody put a stop to her, that one evil, at least, had been erased from the world…But the motive for her bitter evil was what was on her mind. The orphanage…what would happen without her? What would happen now that she’d failed? She couldn’t risk her life’s work being for nothing, so, something she had been pondering a long time had to come out right now. 

   She didn’t know much about Rantaro, though, who really did? Sure, he was a survivalist, he was a frequent traveler, but what more did she know? There was always an air of mystery around the boy, like he was hiding something. Maki was admittedly disappointed she wouldn’t be around long enough to find out what was behind him, if anything. 

    What she knew didn’t matter, though, since all he’d serve as was a messenger for her. She was acutely aware that no amount of help would save her; no one was fast enough to get her out of here and to a place she could get help and she certainly wouldn’t last long enough for help to do any good. Not with these wounds. All she could do was leave a last wish that she hoped her classmate would honor.

      “Tell Saihara,” 

    She started, her voice weak as she struggled against her fading thoughts. 

      “to investigate the orphanage. He’ll-...know what you mean. Just...tell him.”

       Panic seized her in those moments, panic that she could not comprehend.

               “Everyone--tell everyone,” 

         An afterthought, she forced out with an amount of energy she probably should not have possessed in that moment. Everyone encompassed an

              “tell them, ‘thank you’--”

      And like that, in the blink of an eye, silence. Muscles relaxed, form once tensed now completely free of a soul to tense it. 

3. A scared text

       Maki had thought previously that everyone was blowing the urgency of the pianist’s absence up far too much, that the girl was likely just out sick and trying to recover and everyone was bothering her while she was asleep. She claimed not to care much for Kaede, just that everyone else was being stupid over something so trivial and it was starting to irritate her with all of the talk of it.

    …Then a few more days passed, and that’s when it got disconcerting, even for Maki. Still not a word from her or any relatives the class might’ve known of. The feeling of unrest was becoming mutual. She’d been inquired as to whether she had bothered to try getting in contact with her or not, and upon saying she hadn’t was told she should. To that, she sighed; for what reason would she answer Maki had she not answered anybody else? 

    Nonetheless, she’d be berated until she did it, so she might as well make some sort of effort…

   [text: Akamatsu] haven’t been answering anyone else trying to contact you, either

   [text: Akamatsu] so unless you really wanna die, you should probably say something to one of us.

       With that, she stared at her cellphone screen for a moment or two, as if hoping for the other to respond to her immediately so this could be over with and she wouldn’t have to worry over it anymore. It had to be something stupid and inconvenient, right? The assassin exhaled through her nose, and set her phone face down, letting her fingertips linger before she returned her attention to the front of the class instead.
