Aaron Sorkinâs Letter To His Daughter After Trumpâs Victory
Sorkin Girls,
Well the world changed late last night in a way I couldnât protect us from. Thatâs a terrible feeling for a father. I wonât sugarcoat itâthis is truly horrible. Itâs hardly the first time my candidate didnât win (in fact itâs the sixth time) but it is the first time that a thoroughly incompetent pig with dangerous ideas, a serious psychiatric disorder, no knowledge of the world and no curiosity to learn has.
And it wasnât just Donald Trump who won last nightâit was his supporters too. The Klan won last night. White nationalists. Sexists, racists and buffoons. Angry young white men who think rap music and Cinco de Mayo are a threat to their way of life (or are the reason for their way of life) have been given cause to celebrate. Men who have no right to call themselves that and who think that women who aspire to more than looking hot are shrill, ugly, and otherwise worthy of our scorn rather than our admiration struck a blow for misogynistic shitheads everywhere. Hate was given hope. Abject dumbness was glamorized as being âthe fresh voice of an outsiderâ whoâs going to âshake things up.â (Did anyone bother to ask how? Is he going to re-arrange the chairs in the Roosevelt Room?) For the next four years, the President of the United States, the same office held by Washington and Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, F.D.R., J.F.K. and Barack Obama, will be held by a man-boy whoâll spend his hours exacting Twitter vengeance against all who criticize him (and those numbers will be legion). Weâve embarrassed ourselves in front of our children and the world.
And the world took no time to react. The Dow futures dropped 7,000 points overnight. Economists are predicting a deep and prolonged recession. Our NATO allies are in a state of legitimate fear. And speaking of fear, Muslim-Americans, Mexican-Americans and African-Americans are shaking in their shoes. And weâd be right to note that many of Donald Trumpâs fans are not fans of Jews. On the other hand, there is a party going on at ISIS headquarters. What wouldnât we give to trade this small fraction of a man for Richard Nixon right now?
So what do we do?
First of all, we remember that weâre not alone. A hundred million people in America and a billion more around the world feel exactly the same way we do.
Second, we get out of bed. The Trumpsters want to see people like us (Jewish, âcoastal elites,â educated, socially progressive, HollywoodâŠ) sobbing and wailing and talking about moving to Canada. I wonât give them that and neither will you. Hereâs what weâll doâŠ
âŠweâll fucking fight. (Roxy, thereâs a time for this kind of language and itâs now.) Weâre not powerless and weâre not voiceless. We donât have majorities in the House or Senate but we do have representatives there. Itâs also good to remember that most members of Trumpâs own party feel exactly the same way about him that we do. We make sure that the people we sent to Washingtonâincluding Kamala Harrisâtake our strength with them and never take a day off.
We get involved. We do what we can to fight injustice anywhere we see itâwhether itâs writing a check or rolling up our sleeves. Our family is fairly insulated from the effects of a Trump presidency so we fight for the families that arenât. We fight for a woman to keep her right to choose. We fight for the First Amendment and we fight mostly for equalityânot for a guarantee of equal outcomes but for equal opportunities. We stand up.
America didnât stop being America last night and we didnât stop being Americans and hereâs the thing about Americans: Our darkest days have alwaysâalwaysâbeen followed by our finest hours.
Roxy, I know my predictions have let you down in the past, but personally, I donât think this guy can make it a year without committing an impeachable crime. If he does manage to be a douche nozzle without breaking the law for four years, weâll make it through those four years. And three years from now weâll fight like hell for our candidate and weâll win and theyâll lose and this time theyâll lose for good. Honey, itâll be your first vote.
The battle isnât over, itâs just begun. Grandpa fought in World War II and when he came home this country handed him an opportunity to make a great life for his family. I will not hand his granddaughter a country shaped by hateful and stupid men. Your tears last night woke me up, and Iâll never go to sleep on you again.
Love,
Dad
Weâre all allowed to be sad that the present isnât what we thought it was. But we mustnât be defeated. Do not let this defeat youâlet this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Â
â Jennifer LawrenceÂ
Iâm trying to think of something to say but like⊠she left the stage at the end and they just kept singing. All 150,000 of them, old and young. The unifying power of music is brilliant, the power of Adele and this song especially never ceases to blow my mind.
no offense but this year, politically, across the entire globe, has been an absolute jokeÂ

Donât invite me anywhere last minute I enjoy doing nothing so I need to know ahead of time if my plan to do nothing needs to be changed
This is legit and people donât realize it.

To all the Americans who donât understand Eurovision.
I donât understand why Donald Trump is an American presidential candidate.
Meteorologist forced to cover up on air
Meteorologist LibertĂ© Chan was in the middle of her forecast when she was given a cardigan to cover up. Viewers were apparently writing in, appalled by her outfit. In a second video posted to her Facebook page, Chan and a coworker read some of the âangry emailsâ and responded.

Lee: Chris Meloni was just recently on â[Inside] the Actorsâ Studio,â and they talk about Oz, obviously, and he starts talking about the relationship between Keller and Beecher and their feelings for each other. And I was sitting there watching on my computer the other day, just like 3 days ago. And, all of a sudden, as heâs just talking about our relationship, I started to cry, like you would cry if you were like hanging out with somebody you were in a relationship with years ago, and you were talking about, you know, how fucked up the relationship was, but how much you still loved them and stuff. It was the weirdest fucking thing. I was sitting there like, I am crying? It was really trippy. And I think itâs a testament to how much that relationship⊠how it⊠I donât know, that show⊠and Tomâs writing was so amazing, and those characters were so real. And I called Chris right after I saw it. He didnât answer, so I left a message: âDude, this is so weird, but sort of cool.â
Interviewer: Was it like that Adele song âHelloâ? That message?
Lee: Yeah! [Laughs and starts singing] HelloâŠ
