vietato (adj.): forbidden -- You will encounter the word “vietato” on signs warning against certain behaviors, such as smoking or trespassing.
(”Vietato fumare” means “[it’s] forbidden to smoke” or “no smoking.”)
(”Vietato calpestrare il prato” means “[it’s] forbidden to walk on the grass” or “do not walk on the grass.”)
