Iād like to say something along the lines of āThe idiotic demands of one person donāt reflect the entire communityāā¦but unfortunately a lot of people in the Smash community (specifically SSBM) do think this way. they do think that the entire roster of the previous entry should be included in the next entry, Sure as Doc main Iād love to see him return in the next one, but yaā know what, heās not the best character in the game, heās got tons of flaws, thereās other characters that probably deserve his slot more and thereās tons of characters that out match him, so if they got rid of him Iād understand. Iād be sad because they removed my favorite character but Iād still understand the logic behind why they did it.
The only reason why Roy and Lucas were added to smash 4 is because people didnāt ask but DEMANDED of theyāre inclusion. heck, thatās the reason why the smash ballet was created.
Itās honestly sad to me to see that Smash, SSBM specifically, gets the reputation it does and that people legitimately hate it in the way they do because overly competitive players have ruined it for them. I love playing Melee with my friends, when my best friend and I hang out, youāll usually find us playing SSBM togehter, but do we only play as Marth and Fox? no. we play as almost the entire roster but most of the time Dr. Mario and Samus. Do we only wave dash and roll and never use any other form of movement? no, we walk, we dash and sure, we roll. do we only play on final destination? no, we play on almost every stage, sure we play on some of the more commonly competitive stages like Dreamland, but thatās only because we actually enjoy the design of those stages. do we only play 4 stock no itemsā¦most of the time yes, but we donāt play with a timer and we certainly donāt act like items are sacrilegious tools of destruction created by forces of which are unholy. we screw around with items all the time. and sure, we have our serious matches, And Iāve even set up a local tournament once, but were any of the people there playing with bad attitudes because Nintendo wasnāt directly supporting what we were doing, No.
Do I intend of setting up more local tournaments, yes, but I hope that when people attend said tournaments they wonāt come with a 20XX attitude of Foxes only, final destination, not items, 4 stock with a 7 minute timer. I hope theyāll come to have fun with friends and to meet new ones, and that win or lose they walk out with a smile.
I said in a previous post that if I ever go to an official tournament that I want to be that kind of player, the kind that doesnāt care if they win or not, that comes to have a good time and whether they win or lose, goes out smiling.
Do I think that Melee is a perfect game, No, and itās far from it. For the most part, the majority of the competitive scene is entirely based upon developer oversights, Wavedash, Dash Dancing, Mulitshining, Wobbles, Marthās Grab Range. most of ,if not all of, it was unintended, but even so, itās been allowed, rewarded, and encouraged in the competitive scene. let me tell you, Wavedashing is not fun or easy and I honestly donāt feel like developing carpal tunnel in order to pull it off correctly, the competitive community expects way to much of new players and thusly, a lot of new players have been scared away from it.
a lot of people will tell you that the Smash community is growing, and it isā¦for Smash4, not for Melee. Smash4ā²s competitive scene is really easy to get into, all you have to know is how to play your character and how to outwit your opponent, much like in any other fighting game. meanwhile with Melee, you have to know your character, your opponentās character, wavedashing, L canceling, Edge Guarding, Frame data, Hitboxes and much mroe.
SSBMās competitive scene is an actual Nightmare.
Do I support Hungryboxās actions, No. to be honest, I think the manās an over exaggerating drama queen who needs to wake up and smell the roses that heās playing a fighting game that was specifically designed NOT TO BE COMPETITIVE, and that, despite wanting to make a positive impact on E sports as a whole, HEāS ONLY MAKING THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY LOOK BAD.
Now, does all of this make me think that Melee is a bad game, no, it doesnāt. it does however make me think itās an overly competitive game.will I stop playing it with friends? no of course not! and will I stop trying to set up local tournaments, no, because as the old saying goes: āItās not whether you win or lose, itās how you play the gameā and Intend on playing the game For Fun and encouraging that kind of mindset, and not the competitive 20XX mindset.
