Camera focuses on Shi, wrist-deep in his work. 

“Shi, I need the key for the gun safe.”

A noncommittal grinding of the vox, the clatter of fingers in the guts of a small engine. The mechanic barely seems to acknowledge the speaker.

“Now, Shi.”

Frustration, both at his brother and the uncooperative nature of bent flywheels, but Shi refuses to look into the camera. The view jiggles slightly as the bot holding it giggles. Shi finally raises his head, nodding back toward Gage’s counter.

“Yer pistol ain’t outta bullets, ‘n I know fer a fact y’ never put th’ damn thing ‘way after las’ time.” 

“Shi, please.”

“Ga’dammit, why now?”

The keys are thrown toward the camera, snagged out of the air by the recorder, who laughs.

“Big game hunting in the bathroom.”

“Wh’ th’ fuck’re you on about.”

“Roaches be large.”

Anyone who’s had the dubious pleasure of frequenting the Garage enough to be given access to the back apartments will notice that the room Gage calls his own is red. It’s hard not to notice; it’s the sort of colour that seems to glow in the right light, spitting itself on the duller colours around it. Possessive, cloying… painful in a way.
