Parents arguing with my younger brother while I sit in the living room drawing a owl furry with massive boobies . Such is life
every post talking about the hate polyamory gets is always filled with comments of people being weirdly hateful but framing in a "just talking about my experiences" kinda way
"oh well every poly relationship i know is actually super bad and awful and full of cheaters"
"personally i could never be poly because my love is just pure and special and meant for one person i couldn't spread it around and dilute it like that"
and dont even get me started on people who say "oh everyone's poly these days" fuck you fuck you fuck you ur relationship structure is violently enforced by the state

it suuuucks that beggars can't be choosers. i really wanted that other one
not that a princess like me would know anything about being a beggar naturally. just showing my empathy to all the sufferers of the world
βof course having a law that allows corporations to own the work of artists for a one time payment and then make millions off that work without paying the artist a cent is worse than having no law at all.β In a world without IP, wouldnβt the corporations just do the same thing but without even the one-time payment? Like, they own the means to profit off of creative content anyway, so isnβt making them at least pay for the idea better than nothing? Or is it more that itβs not worth the tradeoff of letting them abuse IP against smaller creators?
well the thing is that not only do these corporations profit off the work (which ofc they would do without IP) but the original creators can't! if kurvitz tried to make disco elysium 2, or write a sequel to his novel, ZA/UM could sue him. the creator of ghost rider was in fact sued by dc for selling sketches of the characters at cons. copyright is not just the ability to profit off a work but the exclusive ability to profit off of it and prevent anyone else, including the original creator, from doing so. american mcgee wanted to make a third alice game badly enough he asked EA to let him buy or license the property back and they said no. when yahtzee croshaw quit the escapist he had to rename and rebrand the show he'd been making for 15 years. john fogerty refused to play CCR songs for years rather than let a record label that he hated leech profits from him. & on and on and on
sure, without IP law corporations could still replicate people's creative works, but at least they couldn't legally prevent the original artists from continuing to create the things they love, which they can now. what's happened to these artists is a real theft, unlike so-called "IP theft", because they have been deprived of something they created and loved!

As someone recently diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, one thing thatβs been helping me grapple with the intense shame I have over all my βwasted potentialβ is accepting that potential doesnβt exist and never did.
This sounds so harsh, but please bare with me.
I procrastinated a lot growing up. I still procrastinate today, but less so. And yet, I got good grades. I could write an A+ paper that βknocked [my professor]βs socks offβ in the hour before class and print it with sweat running down my face.
I was so used to hearing from teachers and family that if I just didnβt procrastinate and worked all the time, I could do anything! I had all this potential I wasnβt living up to!
And thatβs true, as far as it goes, but thatβs like saying if Usain Bolt just kept going he could be the fastest marathon runner in the world. Why does he stop at the end of the race??
If ANYONE could make their top speed/most productive setting the one they used all the time, anyone could do anything. But you canβt. Your top speed is not a speed youβre able to sustain.
Now, Iβve found that I do need to work on not procrastinating. Not because the product is better, even, but because itβs better for my mental health and physical health to not have a full, sweating, panicked breakdown over every task even if the task itself turns out excellently. Itβs a shitty way to live! You feel bad ALL the time! And I donβt deserve to live like that anymore.
So all of this to say, Iβm not wasting a ton of potential. I donβt have an ocean of productivity and accomplishments inside of me that I could easily, effortlessly access if I just sat down 8 hours a day and worked. Thereβs no fucking way. Thatβs not real. Itβs an illusion. Itβs fine not to live up to an illusion.
And if you have ADHD, I mean this from the bottom of my heart: you do not have limitless potential confounded by your laziness. You have the good potential of a good person, and you can access it with practice and work, but do not accept the story that you are choosing not to be all that you are or can be. You are just a human person.

i got a new desk not too long ago, and its definitely exacerbating the issue with my hands. its too "hard". and the corners dig in. i'm getting some l-shaped foam to put on the edges but im not sure what to do with the surface. just a big desk mat? how squishy? what material? i dont udnerstand ergonomics at all
for whatever reason it felt way more comfortable when i had a too-narrow desk and my laptop just flat on it and i was hunched over typing on it. now that i have the laptop screen elevated, a separate keyboard, a separate mouse, and all these finicky little adjustments shit hurts worse. i dont get it.
I had a similar experience when I changed my setup. A part of it is adjustment to a different posture. Another part of it is the separate keyboard is often higher and the mouse is bigger and you want to rest your arm on the table but the corners haven't been sanded and the surface is hard, and since you're actually trying to keep your shoulders relaxed, all the weight of your arms is going against the table. I had to buy a padded mousepad and extendable arm rest and a foam pad to rest my wrist near the keyboard. And I had to buy some sandpaper and actually sand down the table edge. And I still get back pain, of course, I sit on my table way too many hours every day. But the shoulder pain is manageable now.
But also the other day I decided I would try to learn proper typing and my hands were in agony after twenty minutes so there's still room for improvement I guess.
this shit is an insane amount of work to tweak wth. we were not meant to be doing this desk shit all day π€π€π€π€ im gonna stop..im gonna stop writing. keyboards are evil. back to the shitty laptop flat on the table i swear. back and shoulder pain is easier to treat than this horseshit
I recommend two three things: a chair with good arm rests you can adjust to be level with the table, and a simple foam pad (literally just. Rectangle of foam with fabric on top) for your keyboard that lets your hands rest on something level with the keyboard. Those two things fix like. All pain from bad ergonomics issues for me.
Also a mouse thats actually large enough for your hand to rest on it instead of constantly hovering in the air above it.
thats so wild bc half the videos i saw from ergonomics channels said arms wrests are the devil incarnate. wth is going on..this shits just calvinball isnt it. BUT heard on the wrist rests, lots of ppl have had positive things to say i might as well give that one a try.
idk, I'm sure for like. Able-bodied people having to hold their arms level on their own power is better than a chair with badly adjusted armrests. For me thats hell and a good chair with well adjusted armrests is the most comfortable thing I've found.

Ok sanctimonious covid anon. I guess "sanctimonious" isn't great and yes shame is only one tactic that is not uniformly effective (but also not uniformly ineffective). When does this become a respectability politics issue with disabled people though? Idk, when the public health response is transparently eugenicist and many supposed fellow radicals don't care to mask (some cannot due to access but i promise plenty just dont Wanna) to stop chains of transmission for a still relatively novel airborne virus, is it the responsibility of disabled anticovid organizers to be super nice all the time during covid education, when even when we are, plenty of our supposed comrades don't mask with us and leave the onus of organizing accessible events all on us? Obviously not all your responsibility to shoulder lol, you just have an open askbox + what feels like disappointing covid minimization/denialism next to the rest of your politics or other elucidated points of view.
No, like the burden of public health messaging and advocacy should have never been placed on the shoulders of disabled and high risk immunocompromised people, that's the whole issue and that's the whole point. because of the context collapse of the internet there are a lot of different types of conversations all happening in the same place at once. disabled people have the right to grouse about being left behind by others and to be enraged, and to not have to tone police themselves, but what someone is emotionally or morally entitled to is not the same thing as what's rhetorically effective. it's just not. it's not fair and it's not right and none of what's happening here is. and I don't think that even the most judicious careful motivatingly worded advocacy on the part of disabled people on the internet would be enough to change the tide at this point. there's simply not enough people doing that work and none of them have any power. what we need is some kind of organized public health apparatus that actually empowers people to make the correct decisions by doing things like paying people to stay home, requiring buildings to update their ventilation, handing out free masks, requiring masks in public spaces, and continuing to make vaccines free. we don't have any of that. we can exert some soft social pressure on our closest associates some of the time, and organize events that reflect our principles and understanding of risk mitigation, but we don't have the systemic force necessary to get done what needs to get done, and in the absence of that, people tend to revert to shame fueled rhetoric that is not super helpful and in fact, fairly or not, puts a lot of people off. but like, I get the despair at this point. I really do. i feel it about almost every large scale change that id like so see in the world. so like, say what you want. I think as long as people are clear with themselves with why they are doing the messaging they're doing and are okay with impact it might have, however minimal, like go off. because I don't think the cheery infographics that are more patiently telling people to wear masks are doing a whole hell of a lot at this point either. Don't think we're going to post our way out of this one one way or the other. It sucks but that's how I'm feeling right about now.
The thing with asking individuals to mask is that it doesn't protect anyone but themselves. 99/100 people on the train not masking presents the exact same risk profile to you as 100/100 not masking. And anon I simply don't give enough of a fuck about my own health to bother.
Yelling at people about not masking is really just yelling about bad optics at this point. "You're not signalling your support the Right Wayβ’" is the message, whether you want it to be or not.
after a very heated argument i had with another trans guy about transmisogyny and what it is, i just wanna make clear on this account, because my stance on some things has changed since being more involved in the trans community and more specifically dating a tma person:
misandry isnt real. trans women dont experience misandry. trans women are not oppressed because of misandry. trans women have no proximity to manhood to experience misandry even if it was real. trans women experience transmisogyny and misogyny, they are oppressed for being WOMEN; NAMELY TRANS WOMEN, and theres enough times that its a tme trans person doing it that its a problem that we need to be aware of and working against. if you think trans women are made to suffer the way they do because larger society sees them as men or even treats them like men, youre an idiot
Think back, dear reader, to the year 2016! COVID-19 did not exist, Donald Trump was president of the US for the first time, and in Austria,
Imagine the nightmare of joining a protest against draconian "Fortress Europe" border militarization in 2016, being arrested, and then having authorities relentlessly pursue charges against you for eight years! That's what our friend N. has been enduring and unless he comes up with thousands of β¬ to pay for a good lawyer, it's going to end with him in prison. The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund has done what we can to make sure that does not happen. Full story above. Help us keep anti-fascists free and in the fight.
