Favorite animal: Crocodiles and fat little sparrows and snakes and elephants and herons and ferrets and-

Average hours spent sleeping: 6-8, usually closer to 8

Number of blankets I sleep with: 2, although I’ll be adding another soon. It’s getting cooold

Dream trip: Going to Norway and doing lots of hiking and getting lots of great pictures. Having time to myself in nature there would be great rather than going there to visit family. >>;

Dream job: Illustrating picture books has sounded super appealing to me lately.

When I made this account: I think I started this in June, don’t remember the exact day though. Gotta adjust my theme so it tells me dates lol

Why I made this account: I wanted an elephant character and a reason to draw it and here I am.

I kinda took a sudden hiatus again for Inktober, and then was delayed coming back because I had to catch up on other art I also postponed for Inktober but heeey I’ve got time for this blog again. The next couple updates are sketched and the next one will be up in not too long~ I’m excited. I’ve forgotten how much I enjoyed drawing for this.

17. Is there anything that gets in the way of this blog? 

Other art commitments, mostly. I typically try to complete 1 art thing a day (or reach a certain point on one if it’s something bigger) and art I’m getting paid for is always going to get priority over art I’m not and so this blog often ends up on a backburner. Aside from that, just work and work around my house. There are days that I definitely choose gardening over doing any art at all and come in from that and am like, “Wow, I did so much weeding I have succeeded at today and don’t need to do anything else!” And then the blog waits :P

20. How does this blog make you feel? 

Good! It’s a lot of fun and gives me something to work at. I’d been feeling a little at a loss what to do with my art for a while and this has me practicing a new style, practicing animals I haven’t drawn a lot before, practicing designing, practicing long term stories, actually sharing those stories, backgrounds to a certain extent… it’s a good thing to have around.

5. Did you have any other choices of muse before settling on the muse(s) you have now?

No. My goal was to draw an elephant so it was pretty-much Phanpy or bust. Her personality grew from being a herd animal- she is used to helping and being helped, working together with others, etc.- and so her typical politeness towards those offering help and timidity towards those that aren’t is just what seemed natural.6. Was this blog originally a different concept?

The long term storyline I have in mind is developing into something different from what I first imagined, but it’s going to be a long time before we see any of that (and it’s still heavily under development besides :P). And all the help and healing Nitta received right from the get go changed things in minimal ways but for the most part so far it’s pretty-much what I expected. I’d consider the blog to still just be starting out though, so we’ll see what changes along the way.

I love elephants. I imagine at least some of you following me do so because you do too. So happy World Elephant Day! To celebrate, I’d like to bring some attention to way we can help more elephants than Nitta.

96Elephants is a fantastic WCS campaign seeking to protect elephants throughout the world. Among other things, they work on the ground in a number of countries in Africa, protecting elephants in their natural habitat and stopping ivory trafficking before it makes it out. They’ve played a part in legislating the recent bans on ivory trade in the US (it was only banned in 2016, which boggles my mind).

They’ve got a lot of free ways to show support for their work and I’d love it if you took a minute today to do something.

#PupsforEles - Mia and Piper are a pair of sniffer dogs who work with their handlers to sniff out ivory in Entebbe International Airport before it can be shipped out for trade. Post a picture of your pet with the tag PupsforEles to show your support.

Thank the Rangers - Wildlife refuges are a big part of helping elephants recover from poaching. You can send a note to the rangers that ensure these refuges are a safe place for them on the 96 Elephants page here (scroll to the bottom).

Write to your Congressmen (US followers) - The Endangered Species Act is currently at risk because of H.R. 2603 (The SAVES act). This will roll back protections on non-native endangered species in the US. For many endangered species, it would become legal in the United States to buy and sell their parts and products made from them. :I WCS has a well written letter ready to go, you just need to fill in your name and location and it’ll be automatically sent to your House Reps to discourage them from passing the act.

-Additionally, the Multinational Species Conservation Funds are also up for reauthorization and you can also write to support continuing that.
