Steve didnât answer. He couldnât. His mind was far too out of it to say anything. He clutched his head as an image clarified. It was... a mirror. Through that mirror he saw himself, but not himself. The reflection looked back in the same shock Steve felt. Then the mirror broke. Itâs shattered pieces tearing through him and leaving shards of the reflection all over the place. All over him. The reflection and him were indistinguishable.
As soon as it started, the pain was gone. The three sat up. There was a moment of confused silence.
Surge touched his tail, âI used to have a second tail?â
Steve touched his eyepatch, âI used to have two eyes?â
Circuit yanked the collar of his shirt down âI used to have a mother effin HOLE IN MY CHEST.â Circuit stared at the gem... core? He didnât know anymore. Then looked up to see his roommate Surge. No... that was his brother. Oh my god that was his brother. A tight feeling clutched his throat as he struggled to say, â...Surge?â
Surge looked at Circuit and tears welled up as well. âCirc buddy?â He scooped the smaller man in a large hug and the two started crying.
@askherobreneandsteffstuff
âYou can... track his health?â Circuit tilted his head. âDidnât remember that was something you could do. Is it because you drank his blood? I think heâs probably fine. My bet would be heâs on his way now.â Circuit sat down and paused. He bit his lip, âbut uh... you think you could show me how that works? Call me curious to a fault, heh.â
Surge shook the hourglass. âWeâve been gone a few hours at least. Iâm not a science guy though...,â Surge huffed. A concerned look crossed his face, âwhat will happen when it runs out?â
"Vell I don't pay attention to zat stuff most of ze time. I'm just a little vorried about him so I bring it up." She shrugged, "Vonce I bite somevone, I can keep track of zeir health for a vile. It's meant more for if jou turn somevone jou can tell if zey get in trouble but I can still feel his health a little."
"Well when we opened the box, that's when we got the old memories, right?" Brene asked, looking at him. "So once the timer runs out..." she paused, looking a little concerned now too. "Do we forget everything again?"
âWell then, how is he? Iâd hope heâs done being a baby by now.â Circuit tilted his head. He didnât get a bad feeling about the Steve situation. The man could generally handle himself. But... now heâs curious. And it was getting the best of him, as usual.
Surge stared at the box for a while. His expression shifted to that of someone trying to hide how upset they were. His jaw worked as he looked at the falling sand. âWELP-â He loudly exclaimed in his usual rambunctious tone to hide any hint he may be having a human feeling. âThe solution is clear. We just gotta make sure it doesnât run out. When it gets low weâll give it the olâ flipparoo and boom. Reset and ready to keep trucking.â Surge shook the box and tried to find any sort of rewind dial on the thing.
Snake paused for a moment, trying to pay attention to the thin connection, "He seems fine for now, it's a little low from punching trees but I tink he is okay. I don't feel any panic from him." She said, after a minute.
"... Surge, I don't think you can just reset that. If Net is the one that gave it to Steve, then I think he's the one that made it and I doubt he'd let it last any longer than intended." Brene remarked, looking at him.
Circuit tilted his head, âbut... you healed those wounds. Thereâs no reason for it to have dropped since then.â His feathers ruffled with worry. Steve... was coming back soon, right? He flipped out his phone and called him. It rang, and rang, and raaaaaaaaaang- oh! He picked up.
âSteve? are you okay? Itâs been a while and I was wondering if you were heading back here or going home?â Circuit paused as Steve replied. His face grew concerned again, âYou knew the mobs would spawn, right? Thatâs just-â He scowled in annoyance, âAlright. I get youâre still a little grumpy. Iâll ask the girls or snake to get you since they can run like light speed or something.â He hung up and looked at snake.
âSeems time got away from him,â He explained, âSteve got caught with the mobs spawning and had to book it. Apparently he dicided to take a detour to that cave you mentioned before the sun set and hadnât realized it. Heâs on his way, but progress is a bit slow with the mobs. Youâre good with mobs, right? Maybe you or Steff can help him? He said heâs on the trail we used to get here.â
Surge shook his head. âItâs gotta last longer. I canât forget you again,â his voice wavered. He started shaking the box in frustration. The sand within it didnât seem effected by the violent shaking.
"Mobs tend to avoid me, so I can get him." Snake shrugged, "Ve'll be back in a little vile, I'll make sure he comes back safe und sound." She smiled behind her mouthguard, and turning to head back and find him.
Brene looked at him, a little worry in her eyes, "Well, we'll still be in the same room, right? Maybe we could leave ourselves notes?" She offered, hoping to ease him.
The cool rain drizzled down onto the grassy plains village of Blßk'n Bløk'n as the woodcutter Gearako returned from the forest with his mules that hauled his plentiful logs.
(AU; humans)
The local blacksmith and âblindâ girl, Brene waved at him. âHey Gear, why donât you put your mules in the barn and come over. Iâve got a few things I wish to show you.â
Brene sighed, âIâll try, but I tend to forget stuff like that when I get worried.â She replied.
Snake giggled, flicking his cheek with her snake tongue, âDanke, liebe.â
After the lunch time Gearako was practicing his weight lifting starting out with the quarter pound weights even though he preferred his classic two hundred pound bar bell. âYou know Brene maybe I could move up to the half pound wieghts?â He asked feeling like he could even though he could barely lift the quarter pound.
Kretzky was with Snake and Steff learning about different types of numbers and letters. He struggled on the higher ones but tried his best to figure out ten plus ten. â2?â He asked as he thought the zero didnât need to be there.
âItâs not the weight you have to get used to, Gear, you need to get ahold on how to lift it. Your new arms and legs are definitely capable of picking up the heavier weights but you have to learn how to control your arms and legs again.â She replied, helping him.
âNo, itâs twenty, you need that zero at the end so people can know what you mean. Here, if I give you ten blocks of redstone and you already have ten, then you have twenty blocks, not just 2.â Steff explained, Snake nodding. She was good with math, but her accent made things a bit difficult to understand, especially with 2s.
Kretzky nodded and drew a circle behind the two. âTwâŚTwen..Ten. Tw-en-ty!â He sounded out as he showed them the corrected math problem as the redstone helped him understand.
So it was all in his head, he thought hard before taking a deep breath and clearing his mind. His arms felt a bit lighter as he lifted the quarter pound weights without strain as he had his arms past the point they needed, as if he was raising both arms into the air.
"Gut, Kretzky, very gut." Snake smiled, "Vat about, five plus fifteen? Vat does zat make?"
Brene grinned, watching him lift the weight. "Good, let's get you used to this, then we'll add weight, when I know you won't drop it on yourself." She chuckled.

Brene ate the food, taking the offered bread, âI donât need anything but you, to keep me happy.â She replied, kissing his cheek, âBut if it worries you so much, Iâll keep eating.â
âI tink Gear has it covered, sheâll listen to him much more zan sheâll listen to me.â Snake replied, âBut taking over vatching Gear during ze night vill help her relax und get some sleep.â
As Gearako fed Brene while she fed him he smiled and kissed her cheek, some color returning to her skin as he held her hand with his free hand. âInlove you Brene, never forget thatâŚâ He said with a smile.
âI could take watch. I been used to doing that with my gang to avoid crazy rattlers.â He said as he offered Snake some honey.
Brene chuckled, âLike I ever would. I love you too, hun.â She smiled.
âVe can both vatch him at night.â Snake replied, dipping a finger into the honey and talking a bite. âHmmm, is zis vy jouâre so sveet~â she teased.
âGearako smiled and nuzzled her cheek. âBrene, you are so cute when you get some food on your face!â He said wiping off some of the food from her cheek and kissing her.
âMaybe we should try having another feast tonight~â He teased back as he kissed her lips.
Brene giggled, kissing him back, âThank you, Gear.â
Snake hummed at the kiss, âI tink zat vould be a great idea~â
Meanwhile, Steff sat at the table, eating her food.
Saldana, Cauldrana and Kretzky sat with Steff and smiled at her as they ate. "Kretzky held out something for Steff, it looked like a bent piece if metal but in the shape of a crude square ring. "Gift forâŚForâŚSnake show meâŚUm⌠It. Is a. Gift f-forâŚYou!â Kretzky said struggling as he dripped oil from his helmet exhausted from thinking as he gave her the item, it was made from iron. âKretzky is trying arts and crafts so we helped him butâŚâ Saldana said as they revealed a bunch of crunched pieces if metal.
As Gearako fed Brene he smiled and leaned on her as they ate, he felt like it was truly now locked in. Them together forever.
Oaklamis kissed Snakes lips and licked some of the blood off his. âNow that was a tasty kiss~â He teased.
Steff blushed, taking the ring, "Thank you, Kretzky. I love it." She smiled, placing it on her finger. She chuckled, looking at the previous attempts, "Well it's the thought that counts, I really do like this little ring."
Brene wrapped an arm around him as he leaned on her, smiling softly.
Snake giggled, licking her lips with a thin snakey tongue.

Brene smiled, âItâs like kindergarten all over again.â She giggled, helping him with his hands. âYou know youâre fuckinâ adorable, right?â She asked, smiling at him.
âNo Iâm not!â He said blushing as he tried to draw a square only to draw a triangle. âHuhâŚI feel like a kid.â Gearako said as he leaned over to Brene and kissed her cheek. âWait whatâs kindergarten? All I did was learn to read and write from an old teacher that let me chop down trees for them. I think it was a guy named Herb or something.â He said as his hand went limp.
Brene kissed him back, âKindergarten is school for little kids, they learn to read and write and do math.â She explained, picking the inked stick up for him to grab again, âTry your name again, you at least need to get that looking like normal.â
Gearako tried again, each time harder than the last but getting a bit better until he finally got it. âPhew that wasâŚAllot of writing, this how kids feel when they are in that place?â He asked as he showed her his name.
âYeah, they have to write out the whole alphabet a bunch to get used to it.â Brene shrugged, âYeah, looks good Gear. Iâm sure youâll have your arms fully controlled in no time.â
âThanks Brene, I just hope I can get back to cutting wood again. Hell I may even go mining.â Gearako said as he tried to draw another square only making a strange shape instead.
It was the late morning as Oaklamis was teaching Snake about the guns he used. âSo first ya hold em like this, there thatâs it. Then ya aim down the sight like a bow. Good, then pull the trigger.â He said as he was helping Snake with hands on positioning.
âOkay Steff I can do this.â Said Cauldrana as she grabbed a knife and practiced attacking her.
Snake smirked, holding the gun comfortably and shooting every target they had set up, in the center. âOaklamis, hun. Iâve shot a gun before.â She giggled, handing it back to him.
Steff nodded, dodging the knife. âYou are getting better, itâs almost hard to dodge you now.â She said, almost getting nicked in the side.
âAh but this ainât a simple flint gun, this baby was made in the West.â He said as he held Snakes hands as she gripped the pistol. âNotice the smooth grip, not too rough but just enough so this baby doesnât fly out Iâd your hand..â He said canoodling with Snake as Kretzky stood next to then eating redstone nugget loudly. âEhh KretzâŚMind umâŚEatinâ those w bit quieter?â He asked as the suit of armor nodded and ate softer, now ir sounded like grinding metal against rock powder making red sparks.
Cauldrana pulled out a second knife and tossed it at her only to graze her leg and almost stab her. âOh my Herobrine I am so sorry!â She said as she calmed down.
Snake nodded, âJa, I vas here ven ze Vest became a ting.â She chuckled, handing the gun back to him.
âKretzky, canât jou just drop zem into jour armor, like ze ozer foods?â Snake asked, wincing at the grinding sound.
Steff gave a little hiss at the graze, a little blood dripping down her leg. âYouâre fine, that was a good hit⌠Here, try this one instead.â She said, taking the dagger and replacing it with one made of packed ice. âThere, now if you stab me, it wonât hurt me, try it.â She smiled, standing with her arms out.
âI like cronch.â He replied to Snake as he kept chewing like a little kid. âUm Kretz, how old are ya?â He asked as he held up a five fingers. âWait wait hold onâŚYouâre telling me youâre only five years old!?â He said as Kretzky nodded and dumped the rest of the redstone into his suit. âBut how!?â Oaklamis asked intrigued.
Cauldrana had her gloves on as she tried to stab Steff, this time without remorse as she performed a leg sweep and pinned her arm into the soil with the ice knife.
Snake hummed, âI tink he vas created, not born. He must have been created at zat size, it vould make sense now, zat he has such a limited vocabulary und mathematical skills.â She said, thinking.
Steff pulled her arm up from the ground, the knife pulling through her arm, âWatch this.â She smiled, pulling the knife from her arm, the ice healing the wound it created. âSee? Not even a scratch, aaaand since itâs ice, it doesnât hurt me at all.â
âNow that explains that. I thought he was wellâŚâ Oaklamis showed some exposed brain of his before covering it back up with his hat. âKretzky not got zombie brain! JustâŚNo had daddy teach muchâŚâ He said sitting down as he wiped the oil dripping from the eye slits of his helmet.
âHoly netherwart thatâs amazing!â Cauldrana said as Saldana came by, admiring her lovers new fitter body. âNice techniques, and butt.â She said as Cauldrana covered her butt shyly.
âVell donât vorry Kretzky, I can teach jou.â Snake smiled, crouching down to look at him.
Steff snickered, watching them, âYou two are such a cute couple. Now back to training, come at me again, this time, for a killing blow.â She said, getting into a defensive stance.
Cauldrana spun the blade in her hand and lunged at Steff, aiming for her heart as Saldana watched the training. âNot bad.â She said flickering her dragon tongue.
As soon as she said that, the giant metal man hugged Snake and yelled, âKretzky learn school yay!â He said as Oaklamis admired Snake, she was like a natural born mother.
Steff dodged, using her wooden âknifeâ to smack her in the side. âYouâre too open, defense up.â She said, getting ready for another attack.
Snake chuckled, hugging him back, âJa, Kretzky. Iâll teach jou school.â Snake was a very motherly person, despite not being able to have any herself.
Later in the day it was time for everyoneâs favorite time of the day, lunch. Gearako was coming in with the help of Brene as the others followed in. Oaklamis helped with his chair as Cauldrana checked the status of the limbs. âThey seem fine. Donât forget I must clean them out every month.â She reminded him as he chuckled and nodded sitting down.
Brene sat down with him, she hadnât left his side since they came back and if one looked closer, theyâd see a slight dullness in her eyes and a little less muscle in her arms. She wouldnât admit it but she hadnât eaten since their date and her worries have left her up all day and night, watching and caring for him.
Brene gave a smile, âThanks Cauldrana, Iâll make sure they stay clean while we get him back up and chopping again. But I canât promise they wonât be filled with sawdust once he goes back to work.â She joked.
Gearako noticed Brene was looking weaker so he waited till they served the food. He used allot of strength to pick up the spoon and try to feed her instead. âYou need to eat Brene. Here.â Gearako said as he smiled at her.
Everyone was eating as Oaklamis whispered to Snake, âIsnât Brene looking a little sickly? Sheâs looking skinnier than a dead scrub bushâŚâ He said as he looked over at Gearako trying to feed Brene.
Brene softly pushed his hand back, "Gear, you need to eat more than I do, I'll be fine." She said, taking the spoon to feed him instead.
"She's vorried. She forgets to eat ven she gets vorried like zis." She replied, munching on a finger. "She's struggled vit eating before, so ven she gets stressed like zis, she doesn't eat."

Brene sat down with him, she hadn't left his side since they came back and if one looked closer, they'd see a slight dullness in her eyes and a little less muscle in her arms. She wouldn't admit it but she hadn't eaten since their date and her worries have left her up all day and night, watching and caring for him.
Brene gave a smile, "Thanks Cauldrana, I'll make sure they stay clean while we get him back up and chopping again. But I can't promise they won't be filled with sawdust once he goes back to work." She joked.
The cool rain drizzled down onto the grassy plains village of Blßk'n Bløk'n as the woodcutter Gearako returned from the forest with his mules that hauled his plentiful logs.

The local blacksmith and âblindâ girl, Brene waved at him. âHey Gear, why donât you put your mules in the barn and come over. Iâve got a few things I wish to show you.â

@askherobreneandsteffstuff
âYou can... track his health?â Circuit tilted his head. âDidnât remember that was something you could do.
