Rye put on her best aggravating grin. “Gee, I don’t know, looks like a classroom to me.”
“You know that’s not what I meant. What is that?!” Antares gestured at the webs.
“Webbing? I’d figured you’d be able to tell.”
“Why is all of Mrs. Lilligant’s stuff stuck to the ceiling?” Antares asked through gritted teeth. Rye shrugged. Antares’ face was turning as red as wood thrown into a hearth. “You’re such an asshole. Why do you always think these pranks are funny in any way?”
“‘Cause they are. Why are you even here?”
Antares sniffed. “To speak to Mrs. Lilligant. I had a question that couldn’t be answered before class change.”
“On the last day of school? Come on, are you serious?”
“Yes, I am. Unlike you, I actually care about my education.” She waltzed in and settled down on a cushion, leaning forward on the desk in front of it.
“Why’re you so uptight? It’s the last day, so what exactly are we even learning?”
“In your case, I believe you should be learning respect.”
“Please. At least I already learned how to have a bit of fun. Make things interesting.“
Antares rubbed her temples, eyes shut tight. A silence began to form.
Rye flicked an ear. “Unlike you, who wouldn’t know interesting if it bit her on the leg.”
“Shut up!” Antares jumped up and stomped over a few feet away from Rye. Dravena tensed up further beside her. “Surely you realize no one likes you, right? All of these idiotic pranks are just annoying. Some of us are actually trying to learn and get out on time. On the last day of school too! You couldn’t of waited to do it to someone who’d actually appreciate this sort of thing?”
Rye couldn’t necessarily afford to get into any more trouble by fighting today. But it seemed that Antares was itching for one, and Rye wasn’t exactly unwilling to knock that stupid smartass down a few pegs. She pinned her ears back. “Does anyone appreciate items hanging from the ceiling? Seems niche.”
“That’s the point you idiot! No one likes your stupid pranks!” The Kirlia stormed forward, shoving her face a hair’s breadth from Rye’s.
Dravena staggered back as if Antares pushed her. “You- Don’t talk to her like that!” Dravena spat the sentence out fiercely, but a pained gasp punctuated it. Concerned, Rye looked over to her friend. Why is she so- Oh Verizion, Kirlia are part fairy-types!
“Oh, and what do we have here? Rye, is this an accomplice?” Antares stalked towards Dravena with a infuriatingly smug smirk plastered on her face. “Should have already known considering how many times I’ve seen you slink around attached to her side. You couldn’t have put the webs up. You look far too bumbling for that. No, the logical conclusion must be that you collected them! You tear a bug type’s home apart for them? You’re all mouth. Or maybe you stumbled into it.” Dravena had backed herself into a corner and was shaking violently. “What? Too afraid to take accountability?”
Rye shoved herself between Antares and Dravena. “Stay away from her! I did this by myself.”
“Then why’s she cowering in the corner? Clearly a declaration of guilt.” Fine. If Antares wasn’t going to move, Rye would make her. She lowered down into a crouch, preparing to tackle the little shit.
“Ms. Antares! Get away from Ms. Dravena at once!”
Antares’ eyes widened and she whipped around to face Mrs. Lilligant. “But ma’am she-“
“It doesn’t matter! Your aura is hurting her!”
Antares blinked, brows knitting together. “I-what?”
“Are you deaf?! Get away from Dravena!” Rye snarled, and Antares stumbled back.
“Go to the principal’s office Ms. Antares.”
“I’ll be following to speak to you soon, but you cannot be in this room right now.”
“Yes-yes ma’am.” She ran out of the room, eyes wet and whiskers trembling.
Mrs. Lilligant rushed to Dravena and knelt beside her. “Are you alright, Ms. Dravena?”
“Sure. Now that she’s gone. ‘Long as she doesn’t come back.”
Mrs. Lilligant took a deep breath. “If you are certain. Send Rye to me if the weakness sickness comes back. I’ll be in the principal’s office.” She left considerably more frazzled than before.
“You really know how to rile her up, huh?” Dravena walked back to Rye’s side.
“I should have noticed what was happening sooner. Could have told her to stay away from you and been done with it.”
“‘S okay, I don’t mind much. Not like the sickness’ permanent or anything.” Her demeanor suggested otherwise. Dravena was thoroughly shaken.
“Are you sure you’re doing ok? You don’t look too hot.”
“Already said it’s fine. Not like I had to deal with it for long.”
Rye growled and paced around. “She’s just such an asshole! Who cares about the stupid school supplies? Not like it affected her. Not worth getting all up in your face over, not when you didn’t even do anything.”
“Yeah, the school supplies…” Dravena chuckled quietly. “All that effort from the school to keep me away from fairies and one still manages to find me anyway. Seems ‘bout right.”
The room is now almost completely silent and still in the aftermath of the preceding confrontation. The pair now stand together, Rye gently placing a paw onto one of Dravena’s to provide comfort.
