“That’s…Nice?” Ratso didn’t add further more, staring at his boss in an uncomfortable way as he sipped a bit of his drink.

Now that Valmont talked about it…

His eyes now searched around the crowd for signs of Finn. The enforcer just remembered he saw his friend walking around, wearing a headband with said plant hanging on it. Surely to “steal” a few kisses from the ladies there. No signs of the redhead so far. He shouldn’t be far.

Valmont squinted at Chow, trying to determine if he was lying or not. Fortunately for Finn, the smallest Enforcer was the best at hiding the truth.

Annoyed by this lack of result, the crime boss turned his head to face Ratso. The man was staring at him like a puppy which had just peed on the carpet. Valmont rolled his eyes before glancing at April who was still looking at them. Well, it was time for a change of tactics. Looking straight at Ratso, he faked a chagrined tone.

“That’s really upsetting. We need Finn before that Secret Santa Game begins. What will we do without him? You know I couldn’t wait for this. And now…” He shook his head sadly and came closer, his eyes fixed on Ratso’s eyes. “Are you sure you didn’t saw him? Really, really sure? Maybe we can go look for him together? Right now.”

Ratso leaned back nervously when his boss came closer. He stood frozen in place. He couldn’t think of anything to reply, too fearful of the idea of Valmont snapping at him if he dared broke eye contact. And he clearly will be more annoyed if they blurted out Finn was actually busy making out with someone. 

Chow helplessly watched the scene.The only thing he could do was to give sneaky glances around his surroundings (thanks for his sunglasses) for any signs of the missing enforcer. Hopefully, Finn would soon be over with his “friend” and rejoin them any second now…Any second now… “Well, i did saw Finn a while back. But i have no idea where he went.” Chow said with a shrug.

Ratso halted his step and looked in direction of the voice. Irritation immediately appeared on his face when he caught a glimpse of Jackie. He cursed himself for not noticing him sooner.

“I am just as confused as you are,” Jackie said with a shrug. He wasn’t really an agent so he wasn’t sure how to respond to Ratso’s comment.

When Ratso leaned over and whispered into Jackie’s ear his questions as if there were others in the park trying to listen in on their conversation, the archaeologist raised a funny brow and turned to the ex-villain.

“Um… I highly doubt Captain Black or Section 13 would use something like a “memory eraser” or hypnosis on someone,” Jackie replied confidently. He knew Captain Black wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing.

“Well, at least I think so.”

“Yeah…That’d be crazy.” Ratso agreed as his attention shifted around the empty playground. Seconds passed, then the feeling of having forgotten something grew in his mind. Fortunately, it came back quickly.

Jackie looked around at the park and quirked an eyebrow at the ex-Enforcer’s comment. “Surprisingly enough, it looks alright to have a survived a “meteor shower",” Jackie air-quoted with his hands. “I have always wondered how exactly people fell for that. Drago was not very hard to miss.”

Ratso gave the archaeologist a dumbfounded stare. “Meteors?! That’s what they came up with!? That’s…uh…” He scratched the back of his head. He couldn’t come up with a proper word.

How Section 13 had managed to convince this to the government was beyond him. But then, he knew himself could fall for things as dumb as this charade. Ratso wanted to fix this flaw. At least making it less bad. Hopefully one day.

To be honest, she wasn’t so keen to find an elaborate excuse today. Her reason for skipping school would eventually come up, but that didn’t mean she had to reveal it to someone she didn’t have the best history with. It was good to see the Enforcers living life without trying to take the Chans out, but it didn’t mean Jade was going to extend her trust quite yet. 

“They have real jobs now?” She inquires, now curious. It was weird, hearing something so mundane out of the quintessential villains of her adventures in America. They had real jobs, ones that didn’t involve murder and magic (well, that was what she assumed.)

“Uh… I hope you have better luck? Working in the city’s tough.” Offers Jade, taking a bite of her own sandwich. 

“Thanks. And yeah, It sure is though. Enjoy your free time while you can, kid. Adulthood’s not as cool as it sounds.” Ratso said after swallowing his food.

“Oh,” Jackie said and muttered a quick apology to the ex-Enforcer. He couldn’t remember what park was that since Jackie was quite the absent-minded fellow. He followed Ratso as he took a right and listened to what he said then thought back to the baseball stadium. “I heard that the stadium was currently being rebuilt.”

“Yeah, I heard too.” Ratso smiled shortly. Surely the local Baseball team would be glad to return playing in their good old stadium soon.

A few meters further, he saw the park.”There it is.” He just said, accelerating his step to reach it faster. Relieved to finally take a break from walking, Ratso sat on a bench and looked around. At this hour, the park was barely crowed as most families had left for supper. Good, he thought. The less the better.

She shrugged, reaching for said mayonnaise.

“Uh? We have a day off, yeah. That’s it–” Taking the plastic knife out of her own lunchbox, she spreads a bit onto the sandwich she packed for her little expedition in playing hooky. What the henchman didn’t know wouldn’t kill him.

“Shouldn’t you be with your two buddies?” Most henchmen spent all their time hanging together, right?

He let her pick the mayo but kept his his eye on the child. Just in case she tries anything. Day off huh? Right. Somehow, he really wanted to to believe Jade but her answer didn’t sounded truly honest. Having a nephew gave Ratso some experience whenever kids would lie or not. Well, most of the time. He could still be easily fooled by them.

“The park?” Jackie repeated. On instinct, the many parks around San Francisco crossed Jackie’s mind, including the baseball park where Drago and Shen Du were banished. Ratso couldn’t be talking about that, right?

“Which park are you referring to?” the archaeologist asked in a skeptical manner as he followed the ex-Enforcer.

Ratso gave him a look as if the archaeologist asked a stupid question “The park who’s a couple meters from here…duh.” 

Well then, that was new. 

Couldn’t hurt to have some reasonable suspicion though. Jackie would be (somewhat) proud.

“Likely story. Are you using that jar of mayo?”

Ratso briefly glanced at the jar of mayonnaise, standing out of his lunchbox. Then back at Jade. Did she needed some? “Uhh, no but-” 

He paused. Why is Jade here in the first place? Chan doesn’t seems to be nearby. And isn’t today a weekday? That was suspicious. Well, it was nothing new when it came to that kid but still.
