H-hello, Master Genkai! It's Hanako again. I have a few flower asks for you, if you are up for them! Bloodroots, Rose, and Tickseed.
Bloodroots: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Oh, isn't this a cute one. I wanted to be a martial artist. *laughs* Is that surprising? I wanted to be something, so I became it.
Rose: What’s your favorite sound?
Silence. Followed by a loud and obnoxious "heeey grandma!"
Tickseed: What’s your main reason to get up every morning?
The people around me. Some still need me, amazingly. And the sunrises. They're lovely to look at.
Flower Asks: Iris, Sweet Pea, Daisy
Iris, who I can talk to about almost anything? Hmm..
@ask-puu is a pretty good listener. Rarely talks back, though often interrupts to beg for food.
Sweet pea, how much sleep did I get last night? Oh, kid, I'm old. Old people sleep little. I think I got 4 or 5 hours. Woke up before dawn, got my tea, watched the sunrise.
Daisy, now this is a big ask. What is my greatest accomplishment?
It's probably teaching this dimwit anything @askurameshiyusuke
(and having him as my student in general).
Oh, har har. Very funny, grandma.
Kid, you flunked out of middle school. Me getting through to you at all is an accomplishment all on its own.
Flower Asks: Iris, Sweet Pea, Daisy

Inside Genkai's mailbox is a bright green envelope with a multicolor striped trim, stamped with the Urameshi seal on the back of it. Were she to open it, she would find a colorful card with the words "SAVE THE DATE" on the front. Inside, it reads as follows:
Save the Date!
Yusuke Urameshi's 50th Birthday
The Last Saturday of July
At The Neon Light Club
Food, drink, cake, and entertainment to be provided
80s Theme - Please Dress Accordingly!
There is another, smaller envelope inside. The envelop already has the Urameshi residence address printed on the front. There's also a loose slip of paper with the following words printed:
[ ] I Am Delighted to Accept this Invitation
[ ] I Decline this Invitation with Regret
Well, isn't this sweet.
She marks [x ] I Am Delighted to Accept this Invitation and sends it back to the house.

His old sensei didn't need to pass on her mailing address, Jin knew how to get there. And really, he did feel bad for not thinking to come around and visit the old bag in so long. Dropping off an invitation to his and Touya's ceremony was as good an excuse as any to visit and maybe get in a bit catch up too. Hell, he's big enough to admit he misses her. Which is also why he brought along some beni-imo tarts he thought the old bag might like, too.
She'd probably sensed him coming a mile away, but Jin still goes through the pleasantries of at least calling out to announce himself when he lands in the compound.
"Oi, Genkai!" he calls. "Special delivery fer yeh."
Genkai walked out into the yard when sensing his energy. She wasn’t expecting visitors but they were always welcome. She smiled up softly at him. “Hello, Jin. What brings you here?”
Jin's entire face lights up when Genkai walks into view. He has to actively check himself when the urge to sweep the woman up into a hug seizes him. Barely succeeding in containing one impulse only results in his enthusiasm making itself known in other ways.
"Master Genkai! What a sight fer ol' eyes yeh are." He's beaming now, lifting the bag in his hand to riffle through it until he finds the invitation to hand to his old sensei. "Did say there was an invite with yer name on it, an' a visit from me was overdue. Touya wasn't able t'make it this time 'round, but he asked that I pass on his greetings to yeh." Next he holds out the bag of treats with a toothy grin. "Have time to enjoy some beni-imo tarts with an ol' student while we catch up fer a spell?"
"Sure," Genkai responded with a smile. Jin's good mood was always infectious. She motioned for him to follow her as she led him inside. She had been drinking tea and poured him a cup as well.
"Now what's this invitation about?" she asked as she handed him the cup of tea.
He follows Genkai inside and takes a seat next to her, looking out onto the grounds dappled in sunlight filtering through broad canopies of ancient trees. He accepts the tea cup with a grateful nod and takes a sip. Genkai knew how to brew a damn good pot of tea, just as well as she knew how to crack a wise-ass like himself into shape.
"Ah, well, Touya 'n me, we be takin' the matin' pledge with each other," he replies with a soft smile at his sensei. "An' it'd be our honor if yeh joined us fer the ceremony."
If it weren't for Genkai and all of Team Uramsehi, he and Touya wouldn't be here today. They owed them so much. And more than that, before Jin and Touya knew it, they learned what it was to be welcomed into a found family. He didn't know how else he could convey how much Genkai meant to them both. Words certainly failed him, and he'd been away so long that actions had failed him, too. But no more.
Genkai smiled. “I’ll be there,” she said, looking up at him. It was strange how she went from a hermit to having so many… grandkids? Some of these demons were probably older than her. But it felt that way nonetheless. “It’s good you’ve finally decided to tie the knot.”
Jin's smile grows to a grin, and if his ears hadn't been wiggling before, they certainly are now. Genkai was always a woman of her word. If she said she'd be there, come hell or high water, she would be.
"Aye. Only made sense to. Touya's always been a part of me life, an' that was never goin' to change. Funny how it's only now I'm seein' the obvious. Gone danced 'round each other long enough." Not for Jin's lack of wanting to make things official, but it turned out fear was a damn powerful force with a life all its own. "This kind o' peace... didn't think it was possible fer demons like Touya 'n I to know it."
He'd spent many a day training with Genkai since the first Demon King Tournament, and in that time he'd talked her ear off about being a shinobi. Sometimes complaining that her methods were more cutthroat than even a demon assassin's, but that had been when he was tired, beaten up and grumpy about spending hours in a snake pit trying not to get bit. He could hardly be blamed for griping, could he?
But, at times, he'd confided in her too. He saw in Genkai a generous spirit who truly cared about her pupils. She was as much a teacher as she was family. In a way, Jin would even admit he loved her like she was family.
She smiled, genuinely. "Everyone deserves peace, Jin. Demon or not. I'm glad you're finally realizing you can have this good future together. It's a gift to find the one you care for cares for you back. Don't be like some other idiots and let that pass you by. You deserve happiness."
She then went back to sipping her tea, content to have said her peace. These demons may be older than her in years, but she still felt like they were her kids, in a way. She had to remind them of their worth.
"Aye. I'll not be doubtin' advice sound as yers. Thank yeh, Genkai." For a moment, Jin sits and enjoys his own tea in silence. But the echoes of Genkai's words niggle in his mind. After a few minutes of quiet, Jin asks, "Other idiots? Yeh say it like yeh've some in mind." Then, as an after thought, "Did yeh—was happiness a thing you ever found? With another?"
It's a new question Jin hadn't asked himself before. Genkai had lived a full life. Surely she'd fallen in love along the way. Now, Jin waits curiously, hoping she might trust him enough to share her story.
Genkai mulled over both questions. “First one’s easy; it seems the beautiful Suzuki,” she said it sarcastically, “and Shishiwakamaru are at it again, breaking up dramatically and dragging the rest of us into it.”
She sipped her tea then, contemplating. “Second question is a bit harder. Happiness existed — a long time ago. It’s,” she paused, staring at her tea, “tainted with pain and loss. It’s hard to separate the two.”
She sipped her tea again, feeling she said enough.
He'd heard something about Suzuki and Shishiwakamaru's break up and make up pattern, but never put quite so bluntly. Jin snickers, shaking his head a little. The drama isn't hard to imagine, what with both having their own flair for the dramatic.
The next of Genkai's answers gives him pause. There's a lot that Genkai says, and a lot she doesn't. He's well familiar with pain and loss, so while Genkai doesn't go into detail, Jin can understand heartbreak without it. He looks at Genkai sidelong, quiet again, and then back out at the compound. He takes another sip of tea.
"D'yeh think the pain ever fades 'nough to let happiness in?" he asks, curious for Genkai's sake as much as his own.
Genkai smiled at Jin. “Of course,” she answered, as if he had asked something obvious. “Happiness is stronger than pain. It’ll always find a way to overshadow the suffering.” She continued to sip at her tea, seemingly being at peace.
Jin hears her—really hears her, and he leans his weight on one hand behind him to look up into the sky between the trees with a deep sigh.
"Can't be thankin' yeh enough fer yer wisdom, Genkai," he says through a warm smile, tilting his head towards his former sensei. "Know yer talkin' true. Be feelin' it in me bones. Or might be it's me heart where the feelin' lives."
Maybe Genkai's peacefulness is contagious, because Jin finds he has no more to say himself. He sips his tea in contented contemplation, feeling at one with the breeze that tickles his cheeks with his hair. And for now, the moment belongs to he and Genkai. Their quiet, their peace, and one brilliant moment under an infinite blue sky as wispy clouds float ever onward overhead.

Would it be alright if I met with a young woman at your temple? She has asked for my assistance with an item she is crafting and I wish to assist her somewhere we might not be seen - given that I am technically retired from such activities.
Also, have you seen Shishi lately, by any chance?
Sure, my place has become a communal meetup, after all.
Your little prissy boyfriend that won't stop moping around while pretending to be a big star? Yeah, he's here. Come get him before he hurts himself.
He's there?! For how long??
*ahem* Sorry about that. Thank you, Master Genkai. After I've spoken to him, perhaps you and I could have some tea and catch up?
He just arrived a few hours ago.
Sure, I’ve got nothing else going on. But don’t expect me to play couples counselor.
No, no. Of course not. I would never dream of expecting such a thing from you.
Besides, this is something I need to fix on my own. It wouldn't feel genuine otherwise.
Good. I'll brew up the pot of tea in a bit.
