2 am, sitting alone at the coffee-table, in the dark, writing, and aching for you, while you are asleep in your own bed, far from here, dreaming of someone else.

This is what love does: It makes you want to rewrite the world. It makes you want to choose the characters, build the scenery, guide the plot. The person you love sits across from you, and you want to do everything in your power to make it possible, endlessly possible. And when it’s just the two of you, alone in a room, you can pretend that this is how it is, this is how it will be.

I feel guilty for each day the sun touches my face, each time I catch the rain between my fingers and each moment I feel the breeze of the sea. I feel guilty because the one who showed me the way to let my soul breathe…is no longer standing here breathing with me. There is a hole the size of her in the fabric of my soul. And she was the only one who knew just what to say to make me whole.

My imagination gave me a dual life: I lived in my body, and at the same time lived a life no one could see.
