adala.
despite her fierce attempts at keeping her heartbeat steady, it turned out to be a miserable failure. her heart was beating out of her chest at the lips pressing to the top of her head, and with her arms by now snaked around his waist as he held her, it only left her hoping that he would not notice. or that the dim lighting in the room hid the blush colour creeping up on adala’s cheeks. the sole sound she made in response at very first was a hum, although perhaps not so much one in agreement, but one in contemplation. right now —being in the midst of their longest run without verbal fights— perhaps her judgement was clouded by her heart. her fear of falling hard and fast was the one thing holding her back, despite of her desires to give in without further contemplation. even adala, in her right mind, could not deny that something felt right. as if finally things had settled into place between the two of them, dynamics having changed for the better.
“ we’ll see, ” she eventually settled for, emerald green hues challengingly glancing up at him, “ after those few drinks. ” the corners of her lips briefly, if only for a second, twitched into the resemblance of a grin, before teeth dug into her bottom lip in an attempt to hide her amusement with regards to asher’s words. “ i can stay the night and i get breakfast ? i am truly receiving royalty treatment, am i not. ” her tone of voice was anything but carrying the honest tone, laced with pure irony before adala just buried her face into his chest, muffling the sounds of the chuckles that fell from her lips. “ can’t say i am not tempted to take you up on that now, though. ”
“ despite feeling slightly sorry for your mom left with the mess of you and your god knows how many siblings, i bet that must’ve been a highlight of your halloween. let me guess, artist asher was a master pumpkin carver ? ” she merely huffed quietly, mirroring the smile he had shown. “ i don’t think we ever truly celebrated it, my mom did not really care for any of it — we usually just, spend the nights at home. watching one of many reruns of those classic horror movies that get aired every year, you know ? which left me awake for at least the following three nights, but i figure i thought it was worth it when i got to stay up late and eat the leftover trick or treat candy. ” she pulled up her shoulders in a brief shrug, her indifference towards the holiday left unchanged.
“ i guess i have been liking this halloween so far, ” adala admitted, her voice carrying a hint of playful defeat as from beneath her lashes she glanced up at his icy blue hues. the kiss pressed to her lips distracted her completely however, immediately leaving the burning desire for more. and so she felt, nearly instinctively, her hand sliding up his chest to curl around his neck. “ only downside to this costume of yours is me having to settle for that kiss, ” she muttered then, throwing him what was seemingly a playful glare. “ okay, fine — i guess i can’t argue that one, i will let that one slide. everyone likes candy, it’s one of the major bonus points of halloween. ”
He let out a soft little laugh at her words, leaning against the bar, his hand moving to toy with a few strands of her hair, shoulders shrugging lightly, “Maybe one day we’ll have sober sex, it truly will be a life-changing experience for you,” He teased, stroking the skin of her jaw that wasn’t covered in paint, “Because if you keep coming back from more just from our drunken fucks, imagine how good it must be in the middle of the day?” He was completely serious, though the playful and joking tone didn’t leave his voice, his hand sliding from her jaw to her neck shaking his head some at her next question.
“I actually have nine siblings,” He started, seeing that shocked look in her eyes and laughing some, “Eight, cause one died but, nine of them yeah and uh,” Asher found himself laughing more, not even sure he wanted to tell her the big Denvers quirk, “Ma really likes names that start with Ash, so her and dad named all of us uh, names like that you know?” Asher shrugged, feeling a little embarrassed at revealing it, knowing fully well this was the type of moment his parents envisioned when naming their kids all similarly, “Every form of Ashley imaginable, Ashton, Ashland, Ashford, which you know.” He rolled his eyes, “Our baby sister is Ashleen, poor thing.”
He cleared his throat some, picking up the refilled drink the bartended set beside him, gulping some down and humming, “But nah I actually suck at pumpkin carving, or any kind of sculpture making, its just not my thing, I was always more into sketching it out and working with Ford to carve it, he’s pretty decent at that stuff, I think it’s the whole, dad thing he’s got going on.”
“Well we’re celebrating it together, and if you want I’ll even stop off at a grocery store and get some candy and we can go home and indulge our childhood nostalgia with it,” Asher told her, having every intention of doing just that, some scary movies and candy before sex? Seemed like an amazing night to him. When she teased him now, he found himself smiling brightly, looking down at her and pouting, “I’d give you a better kiss but then we’d both look like a Pollock painting,” He murmured as she slid her hand up his chest, “So it’s a date then, we stay here for a bit, then head back to the apartment for candy, movies, and hot sex, perfect.”
