I havenβt used this blog in uh... over a year? But guess whoβs reworking their fursona
Drawing is hard, but since Iβm still in the designing phase it mostly involves drawing them over and over and over again with different permutations in design so I think Iβm going to get a lot of practice lol.
Literally, looking at my profile pic on this blog (which was drawn something like 6 years ago now) I just... donβt like it? Besides the fact that it was drawn so many years ago and Iβve obviously evolved as an artist, thereβs literally no thought put into it at all.
I know that, because I actually remember that I just wanted a fursona for furry profile pic purposes, and so I drew the first thing I thought of with little to no character design thought put into it whatsoever.
(Not to mention, adult me looking at something teenage me designs will almost always feel uh... cringey, I guess, because of aforementioned growth in drawing and design ability.)
Anyway, I want to draw more. I know every time I make this resolution I fail spectacularly, but Iβm trying once again to get back into drawing, and furry art has always been such a huge influence on my artistic career (not to mention, itβs inspiring me now to get back into it) that it feels both necessary and appropriate to redesign my fursona basically from scratch.
I do have some ideas, and currently they are still an otter, but I admit Iβm still not really sure how to make them visually distinct. Iβm literally a biologist, so it feels weird to go off of natural patterns and colors, but I might look at color morphs for domestic mustelids for inspiration and consider playing with elements of those.
Iβll probably keep teenage meβs only actual design idea, the fractal bandannas (esp. Sierpinski triangle/carpet, though the dragon curve is also one Iβve drawn them with) in some form, but otherwise itβs basically open season.
Iβm kind of excited. I love doing character design. Since Iβm primarily an author, I deal with a lot of character crafting. Itβs always really nice to fall in love with a new character tbh, though admittedly they rarely ever are meant to be a persona for myself, so I am approaching this a little differently.
Itβs an interesting challenge, which I am a little afraid of, and Iβm positive Iβll change my mind about approximately a billion and a half elements of the design before I settle on anything, but it should be, if nothing else, fun.
