Idgaf that Kazuki goes out drinking with women or that it may or may not have been a failed attempt from PA Works to beat the gay allegations.
He still out here living with, starting a business with, working with, coming home to, and raising a child in a devoted relationship with another man and youāll pry his bisexual, queerplatonic ass from my cold, dead fingers.

Iām hoping the fact that Miri is talking to the picture of her mother and her is confirmation atleast that Kazuki and Rei told her that she died.
But it makes me wonder if they actually told her the truth about it, including their former jobs, or if they just told her about the throat cancer and let her put the pieces together.
I canāt even really be mad at Kyutaro for calling Misaki because he was pretty much out of options.
It was either ābetray my friends and indirectly cause them to likely get killedā or āget a third party and the legal system involvedā so everyone lives and Miri goes unharmed. The legal system here being Misakiās birth rights to Miri trumping Kazuki and Reiās feelings.
It sucks but it was the most realistic scenario that would get all of them out of trouble. Kyutaroās a pragmatist. You kinda have to be in this sort of job.
Misakiās change of heart doesnāt feel fully genuine to me. With her whole life going down the drain, I think sheās just lonely.
Misaki didnāt wanna be a mother in the first place but powered through (which I sympathized with). I canāt really see her feelings suddenly changing. The year without Miri mightāve done some good to her mental health, but parenting isnāt something you can just take a vacation from.
This will probably backfire on her. Especially once Miri starts asking questions about where her two Papas are. Sheās a little older now and a little more observant of her surroundings.
Also really interesting to note that while Miri obviously loves her mother, sheās never really expressed displeasure about her mother not being there. Iām curious if weāre gonna see a situation where Miri misses Rei and Kazuki and Misaki will realize she was a bit in over her head. The Miri she has now is different than the Miri she had before. The emotional attachment is no longer what it was before because Miriās not fully dependent on her anymore.
Idk man I canāt see this ending without Miri going back to KazuRei. A permanent separation would just undermine the whole message this anime has been trying to send. āTwo men can totally raise a child together...until a real mother comes alongā would be a horrible take.
Hereās hoping thatās not what weāre getting.

In episode 7, there was a lot of frustration mixed with sympathy towards Rei for his lack of ability to help carry the load of parenthood, leaving Kazuki to deal with it all. Itās so refreshing to see that wasnāt just a one-off instance and he actually is learning and growing from it. We see it here when he offers to help with the food, something he wouldāve previously just left to Kazuki.
While Kazuki does tease him about it because āWhat?! Is the world ending?! You wanna help with the food?!ā, thereās this sense of pride too. Keep in mind in episode 8 in the flashback when Kazuki literally had to cook, clean, and bathe this man because he was so helpless on basic life skills. And now heās evolved that heās actively wanting to help provide, not just for himself and Kazuki, but for their daughter.
And it doesnāt just end there either. He also took the initiative to put all of Miriās favorite treats in the riceballs as well, such as cereal, strawberry jam, and gummies. A bit untraditional, but Miri, being a small child, absolutely loves it. It shows how much Rei pays attention to what she likes (and shares in those likes as well). In a way, Miri is providing him the childhood he missed out on.
And then we get to the climax. Which the episode had been building up towards. Rei cheering Miri on.
Unfortunately, Miriās so shocked that she ends up tripping and losing that race, but itās such a moment of Growth for Rei as a person to expend that much energy and it doesnāt go unnoticed by Kazuki either.
I really love that Kazukiās attitude towards Reiās efforts has changed, too. He sees how hard Rei is trying now. Cheering people on, making them riceballs, and wanting to be involved all seem like simple, bare-minimum things, but for someone like Rei, who grew up devoid of love and detached from the world, itās a pretty big deal for him to come out of his shell like that.
This is probably the first episode where Kazuki and Rei felt like a real partnership and co-parents and not just Kazuki kinda dragging Rei along for the ride and I love that. All of the previous episodes have built up to this.
-
Also, a bonus:
Huge Married Energy here. Like literally fighting over who their child takes after more.Ā
Kazuki in episode 1: Oh Iām just crashing at Reiās place since itās convenient
Also Kazuki: [cleans it on the regular, keeps track of the bills, stocks the fridge, buys all the furniture, has literally been there for 3 fucking years keeping Rei alive]
Idk how to tell you this bro but youāre well past the point of ācrashingā.
Very cool how this weekās Buddy Daddies kinda makes commentary on how Japanese wives (with Kazuki being the āwifeā in this case) bear the brunt of the work in the household, but also subverts the Weaponized Incompetence that too many men use on their wives.
Weaponized Incompetence is when a person will deliberately pretend to be helpless or not know how to do things in order to get out of doing things they donāt wanna do. (āYou do it better than me, thoughā). In this case, Rei is not doing that. It seems like heās just deliberately dropping the ball, but once Kazuki is out of the picture, itās pretty obvious that Rei just literally doesnāt know how to do things and absolutely fumbles on his own. Heās not intentionally trying to shift the load onto Kazuki. He just has no life skills at all and grew too dependent on other people (mostly Kazuki) doing the basic things like cleaning, cooking, etc. for him without realizing it.
But as we see at the end of the episode, heās willing to learn. He is stunted in his development through no fault of his own, but he is still an adult and not just any adult, either. An adult in charge of a child. This was kind of a wake-up call for him. So while yes, itās frustrating in the beginning watching Kazuki bear the brunt of the load and not get much appreciation for it, Rei is still sympathetic in that he genuinely just doesnāt know better.
So we got interesting social commentary on how a happy (emphasis on happy because that comes up a lot in this episode), functioning household needs to have everyone doing their part, we also got some good development and insight into both Rei and Kazuki and their respective roles.
So something that actually bothers me about the recent episode and this isnāt necessarily a shade on Anna, but...why did she not want parents to come along on a field trip when she clearly needed help? She was the only adult supervision for a large bunch of small children. Maybe if more adults or āparent volunteersā had been there, Miri and her friends wouldnāt have gotten lost.

It is kinda funny and sweet that Kazuki was so willing to take on the āwife/motherā role with Miri because between him and Rei, heās definitely more suited for it.
But I wonder what kind of parental role he wouldāve had if his wife had survived and heād gotten to be the father he wanted to be with her. Considering Japanās love for gender roles, would Kazuki still be a househusband or would he have a more hands-off approach similar to Rei and let his wife handle that part? Or possibly a mixture of both? Heās a bit high-strung and controlling, so I imagine heād want to be completely involved.
I know the common opinion is that Rei and Kazuki should get together by the end, but me personally, I donāt really need them to. I wouldnāt say no, but they just donāt give me romantic vibes at all.
I think they could really work as just platonic co-parents or even queerplatonic but romance? Thereās not really anything there in my opinion. Theyāre basically just co-workers and roommates (oh my god they were roommates lol). Miri can have two dads who also happen to be single friends and I donāt think that would make them any less of a family or the story any less meaningful or queer.
The fact that Shiemi couldnt differentiate between romantic love and friendship...and the fact that Rin is only interested in Shiemi and Shiemi only. Ace solidarity actually good for them.

So Himenos whole story contribution was exploiting a teenage boy and then taking advantage of him and contributing to his trauma, giving him yet another terrible experience with a woman that Makima can use to manipulate him.
...Was I supposed to feel bad when she died? She can rot actually.
#YEAH LIKE#and people bend over backwards defending her#'you people don't know what grooming mean' yes the term is used WAY too much for things that are not grooming#BUT THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF GROOMING! she literally tried to assault him as well wtf!!Ā
She didnāt groom him, she just took advantage of him. Two separate things. You could potentially make an argument for Aki, but she barely even knew Denji. What Makima is currently doing to Denji is grooming, Himeno just has a lack of ethics and self-control. She regretted her actions, but only because she didnāt wanna get in trouble. Guarantee if it hadnāt been illegal, she wouldnāt have cared and thatās the issue.
